1. Because changing it is easier for some peoples vocal range, 2. it’s a cover, but that doesn’t mean it has to be exactly the same as the original. adding a different spin to it can make it more unique.

@@cardrop33also, as with many of Elliott Smith's songs, it's originally played in an alternate tuning with irregular chord shapes that are harder to learn as opposed to just playing the song a little differently
