Ellie’s story | We need to talk about sex and cancer | Macmillan x

We need to talk about Sex and Cancer. At 14, Ellie (who is now 22) was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer.
No one told her how the treatment would impact her sexual function as an adult.
Now she is sharing her story in the hope of helping others. As leading voices on cancer and sexual wellness, Macmillan and @LovehoneyOfficial are so proud to be partnering together to amplify Ellie and others’ stories.
Everyone deserves sexual happiness, and we need to be able to have open and honest conversations about the impact that a cancer diagnosis can have while offering support, ideas and advice along the way.
Please join us in applauding Ellie for how bravely she shared her story. We hope, together, we can address the devastating impact cancer can have on us and our loved ones.

How wonderful your video was Ellie and how your strength will help so many people. There will be so many people watching you who wanted to ask those questions but didn't feel able to. My son was 15 when he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and I am a midwife. One of my first thoughts was for him to do a sperm donation. That was a hard conversation for a mother and son to have but I knew it needed to be done as unfortunately if I hadn't have done nobody else was going to.I think this was a very important point that you made that the Doctors who are treating young people with cancer need to look into the future. He is 21 years old now and at university and has sperm in the sperm bank. Our wish is that one day he will be able to use it. Thank you for bringing some joy and understanging to young people who need it. Dawn xx
