Ellie is awesome. I don't know what people are complaining about. No one performs a song in concert exactly like the recording. There are some factors that play into a stage performance that makes songs different. :)

I agree partially. Live singing is much harder. However i have to say, Boyz 2 Men are the best live singers i have ever heard. They sound exactly like the recording plus more. Sometimes you just have to know what artists are actually good at what they do.

MageOfficial Actually, you're completely wrong on your last phrases. It's not about being spectaculary good on singing, is about what kind of genre/music style you sing. Some genres are easy to be performed live and other genres are fucking difficult. The electronic genres are the hardest ones you can't perform them perfectly as the record, so you have to adapt it (in Ellie's case, she made an acoustic fersion, perfect!). At least did you ever listened the original version of "Burn" song? Its fully ignited by electronic instruments and stuff, which are overwhelming in a live situation. Try to put Boyz 2 Men or any spectacular singer to sing an fully electronic song (as Burn) and you'll see they won't shine as much as you'd expect.

costinvaly1 If you are seriously comparing Boyz 2 Men to Ellie Goulding, you have lost the plot. Yes i have heard the song. It is nowhere near as complex as you are making it out to be. The instruments have nothing to do with her vocal performance so i dont even know what point you are trying to make. I think YOU need to go listen to a Boyz 2 Men song and see whether Ellie can sing that. No chance. Boyz 2 Men are on a different level vocally.

MageOfficial You talk about singing like a sort of super power or something like that. You're just so subjective in all your statements you make. Also, you talk about "Burn" song to not being complex or hard at all, but the thing is, how much close you can sing an electronic-based song to the studio version which is also UP TEMPO. Boys 2 Men sing slow BPM songs with instrumentals made mostly of smooth instruments/tracks. "Burn" song is full of electronic instruments which are also super saturated, full of upper harmonics which generates a richer sound, and sometimes too rich to be able to be played live and still sounding like a studio version. You have no idea how much complex is to mix and master (technically by an audio engineer) an electronic genre song in order to fit in both the instruments and the vocal. I work in the audio business as well, i studied sound engineering, but guys like you will never understand what factors really makes a song technically complex in order to make it hard to be performed live. At least you can start learning what BPM is and notice that Boyz 2 Men are singing down tempo (aka slow) songs.

You do make me chuckle. You are talking to me about mixing and mastering which is essentially the cleaning up of instruments and vocals. I am talking about the VOCALS purely. Forget everything else. I am saying VOCALLY, she is a studio singer. Whereas live she struggles. Completely moving away from the topic. Not ALL Boyz 2 Men songs are 'slow' as you say. You need to understand i am talking about vocals here, and vocal ability. You keep talking to me about instruments and an 'electronic sound'.
