Olympique Lyonnais reported the serious injury of its defender Ellie Carpenter, who left early in the Women's Champions League final against Barcelona (3-1) in Turin.
The examinations taken by the Australian international have confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee which will lead to an operation this Wednesday in Lyon. She will be unavailable for a minimum 7 months

I expected the worst when her knee gave way after she rejoined the game, I've seen that happen too many times unfortunately. I can only hope it's not a worst case scenario as far as ACL injuries go, and that after the very long rehab ahead of her she'll have a knee that's as close to 100% as is possible. The Matildas are going to really miss her.

Almost identical to Kristie Mewis knee injury playing in houston
Amazing they had her playing on after the first injury, it immediately looked like a Acl. The medical staff have some explaining to do
I missed the first half of the game, so first time I see this footage. I didn't even realize she rejoined at first, until the collapsing. Absolutely heartbreaking, really 😔
That's a horrible injury. I hope she can recover fully from it.
tragic. good illustration of how your knee can be totally incapable of lateral stress after an ACL tear. hope she has a successful recovery.
My daughter plays nswwl in the nsw npl ellie is her favourite player she was almost in tears when she saw her fall when she came on the 2nd time.
i'm 13 months past acl recontruction on my left knee using the hamstring graft which the surgeon said was quite small too. still have pain on my left knee when i do squads, lunges. tore it while playing futsal wearing boots on fake turf. while defending an attack on the wing, just stepping on my left and changing direction to go to the right and it just popped.
All PTs are now going to wonder if they should send players back onto the pitch after a first injury. Did it tear the ACL more and worsen her injury by sending her back on?

Missing half a game vs missing at least 7 months, not a good calculation. Lyon should have applied the precautionary principle.

@@greatestever7623 You write this 6 months after my comment, what a formidable soothsayer capable of predicting the past you are. I guess you are the "greatest ever second guesser". By the way «at least» includes your 12-14 month timeframe. Various medical sources estimate recovery time between 6-12 months, hence my at least 7 months.
Respect her so much in the women champions league final
At 1.19 into this clip you can clearly see Ellie say "its gone, it feels gone" Why did they put her back on?
Feel so bad for her
Been there very painful 😭🥹
