Some archer's do that to keep the "surprise" factor in place. Instead of getting complacent with one piece of gear.

The eyesight thing only really applies to young eyes, as you get less young, you tend to find everything gets more fuzzy, which may mean you need to adapt your sight or sight picture (it took me 3 years to find a working solution, at the moment )
