I don't know what about it is but the only piece in the song that really gets me are the 4 words "From major to minor" Obviously this is word painting at its finest, literally going for Major to Minor, but the progression from major to minor just hits some deep chord inside me, it's almost painful how blissful it is to listen to. Anyone else?

This was the last song at my brother's funeral as we left the crematorium. Every time I hear it now it puts a tear in my eye as I miss him so much. Ella's diction is perfect and is a great lesson for anyone who wants to be a singer. I don't believe there will ever be another Ella.

Your comment made me tear up. Ella was a favorite of both my parents. My late mom would play Ella's music while she cleaned house when I was a child in the early 1960's. My late father raved that Ella on the Memorex commercials was better than "half of the junk on the radio." At least we will always have Ella and great memories.

When I listen to Ella I can't breathe, I get totally overwhelmed by the sound of her voice. Ella Fitzgerald's voice was the perfect sound, it was multi-layered and full like listening to a complete orchestra and her subtle shading was phenomenal. This coupled with her perfect pitch and impeccable phrasing make her the greatest singer of all time.

Cole Porter’s “Every Time We Say Goodbye” was introduced in the 1944 musical revue “Seven Lively Arts.” Numerous notable covers include ones by Ray Charles, John Coltraine, Nina Simone, Carly Simon, Sarah Vaughan and Robbie Williams. But Ella Fitzgerald’s version (1956) is considered to be THE DEFINITIVE INTERPRETATION‼️ Cole Porter incorporated a musical joke in the song’s score by including a chord change that goes from minor to major in opposition to the lyric “how strange the change from major to minor.” ONE AGELESS CULT CLASSIC❕ 💙🎵💜 Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed will you remain, Ella Jane Fitzgerald (1917 - 1996)… 🌹

I love when Ella sings the American Song Book classics. Not only does she have a fabulous voice, but she sings the songs the way the composers wrote the songs - unlike so many singers who try to show off their voices without much concern for the song.

This is the definitive version of this classic song imo. But Sarah Vaughan's version comes very close. I also like Simply Red's cover of it. But Ella is the gold standard - and she will never be eclipsed. One of the outstanding Jazz voices during the 20th century. Few singers have her rich, mellow tones - men or women, and from any genre, and time period. Ella was gold. This should have at least 50M views. As for those who 'thumbed down' - well either they're ignorant, or they just don't like proper music sung by a real singer.

Cole Porter’s lyrics are the best. It shows his wit, grace, musical brilliance and zest for life.

When Cole Porter wrote this song,, he wrote THE perfect song for Ella's amazing voice. Even in the twilight of her years Ella always sang this song to perfection.... it always gets you..... right there.

Your comment made me tear up. Ella was a favorite of both my parents. My late mom would play Ella's music while she cleaned house when I was a child in the early 1960's. DEFINITELY A MOST BEAUTIFUL LADY, THE INDELIBLE ELLA FITZGERALD, SHE SANG BEAUTIFULLY, GRACEFULLY, SOOTHING, BODACIOUS, SULTRY, SUBLIME!!! NO WORDS TO EXPRESS THE PERFECTION OF HER VOICE!!!!! TQ FOR A LOVELY RENDITION!!!!!

What a gorgeous performance of this Cole Porter classic, by the fabulous Ella Fitzgerald.
I love when Ella sings the American Song Book classics. Not only does she have a fabulous voice, but she sings the songs the way the composers wrote the songs - unlike so many singers who try to show off their voices without much concern for the song.

The Legendary and Unique Miss Ella Fitzgerald!❤️ Absolute class and lyrics that can be actually understood!
There is Cole Porter and there are other songwriterrs. I see my son every 2 weeks and I feel every word of this.
Coltrane's version of this song plays in my mind everytime I go out of the house and imagine our pet dog Lucy as she watches me go out the door. She was with me for almost 8yrs. She passed away 3 days ago and now I'm feeling so down, just listening to any version of this song as I reminisce our time together
This song (well Ella in general) is like soup for the soul. Any time I feel down or blue I pop some Ella on. Have a little cry and me time and I feel infinitely better. She the truest of icons. And nothing comes close these days

She has such an amazing voice it is so beautiful she is SO talented it is good raw talent not fake talent like we have now because she doesn't use anything to make her voice sound better then it is like a lot of famous singers use now to make their voice sound better then it is!!!

The words combined with sincerity in the tone truly describes the era.. Sadly never will be repeated in This day n time

Her voice is so soothing and you can feel the sorrow within it
This is the definitive version of this classic song imo.
Every time we say goodbye, I die a little. Every time we say goodbye, I wonder why a little. Why the gods above me, who must be in the know, think so little of me they allow you to go. When you're near there's such an air of spring about it. I can hear a lark somewhere begin to sing about it.
