    Dear Aly, I can’t thank you enough for this video!!!!! You are always GREAT, but this...It was so so helpful, everything I wished for in a ”romantic” type video🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💓💓💓💓💓💓❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ As a TR/R myself I always found other, less curvy body types more beautiful- but at the same time girlfriends often pointed out that we romantics have ”the perfect shape”. THEN...as life goes by and we put on weight, I almost felt ashamed (stupid, I know. working on that😅) and then try to hide in exactly those wide straight blouses and dresses that you so well explained -only drowns a Romantic 🙈 I’ll stop that NOW. Very very helpful. спасиба красива Aly😻😻👍🏼

I have an hourglass body and I fit into the romantic body type category, but sometimes it is hard to find clothing that works for an hourglass shape. The Kibble series and explanations are wonderful. I tried the Pinterest link and it didn’t work. Can you please post the Pinterest link again? Thank you. ❤️. I subscribed your other KZread channel too. I think -slim mom jeans that finish just above the ankle -with a belt to accentuate the waist and -a top that isn't bulky, rather slim fitting, -with some sneakers like vans or keds, that aren't chunky or too geometric And you can add to that some jewellery or accessories for romantics and it will look amazing. You can watch some videos for romantics for more specific things. But hair and makeup are the most important, so if you wear a simple outfit like that, with the right haircut, hairstyle and makeup, it will look very good on you

    Being a theatrical romantic myself, I have great respect for the time and attention that went into much of Elizabeth Taylor's wardrobe. Her best lines required a lot of tailoring and cohesion. I'm very excited for Aly to release a video on someone like Vivien Leigh, because a I believe a key difference for theatrical romantics (as compared to pure romantics) is their inability to wear clothes that create a harsh delineation between top and bottom. I find achieving both waist emphasis and an unbroken and fitted silhouette has become very difficult in today's fashion industry. (I'm told I look best in high waisted pants, but basically those pants must be the same color as my top or should I just always wear dresses?) I also appreciate all the time that went into making this video. You can really tell that Aly does a good amount of research beforehand.

    This is so funny to me, because I hadn't realized this was a TR thing, but growing up my ballet teacher (a veteran of the MGM studio dance troupe in the 50s) would always be adamant that I shouldn't wear anything that would "break up my line". She also hated it when I cut blunt bangs. 😂

This video really helped me seeing how she styled herself for the trends that went against her body type, like the 60's and 80's. I think I know better now how to balance my personal style with my body type and im really excited to try it out :)!

    Elizabeth was not just a beautiful romantic but a wonderful woman. One of my favourite looks is actually a rare and unusual one at 12.30 with the oversized pants. How she made that work for her is pure mastery of proportion. If the turn ups were not done, if the belt was thinner and the shoes a different style it would not work. But she nailed it! Romantics should try this look more. Another look I like on romantics is the sweetheart neckline which she was known for and looks perfect on Marilyn too. In fact her 70s eastern look was inspired by her trip to Iran. She brought back many fabrics and clothes from there. She was brave to show her grey hair streaks in the 80s. She really was a unique and open minded woman. Another great talk and examples! It was entertaining especially your word choice for breasts made me laugh out loud.

    My favorite actress of old times. Thanks for the video. About Cleopatra, the make up (Elizabeth made it herself) was accurate but producers decided the dresses and hair reflected modern times (the 60's). And yes: all over the years MORE IS MORE was the motto of this great woman.

    This video is just in time for me. I'm trying to find solutions for my wardrobe. The problem with romantic body type is that we look plump to begin with and if you add some weight gain on top it just destroys you and you look like a box all the time. Any bits of styling advice is appreciated.

  • @shirin9452

    @shirin9452

    TR, similar problem especially with my short wasp waist. If there’s any fat on my waist I just look like a chunky little bird with my bust and long legs 😂 tops with soft, thin fabrics that show off the figure really help, I personally love a halter top for its retroish silhouette but anything works as long as the straps are thin and delicate, wrap dresses and blouses as long as they’re more delicate, soft tapered pants that fit at the ankle and natural waist (could also be leggings if you’re doing a very casual look). Drawstring and high waisted shorts or bottoms really help cause they are still comfy ^^ Generally make sure the shape of your body can be seen as much as possible which means fitted at the waist, wrists, hips and ankles. Belts help a lot and can also add a bit of style but make sure they’re a bit neutral and delicate to not make a huge distinction between the top and bottom half. Also as a type of romantic you can afford to have ornate feminine details such as small ruffles, shirring, rouching, sweetheart and rounded necklines/hemlines. But it’s still important with the details to keep the neckline open. Shimmering jewelry with ornate little details really adds to our look-we can pull off a lot of glitter if it’s very delicate and glamorous pieces. Our shoes should be delicate and fit nicely to the foot-when I try to wear my flamboyant natural sister’s chunky heels I look absolutely ridiculous 😭 I’m sure you’ve noticed delicate is really the keyword here and I literally can’t stress it enough. Even if you feel a bit plump, you still look great defining your waist and body shape, as it’s generally more flattering than tents and deconstructed on us. The one thing I will say is I think romantics, with their slight feminine width compared to TRs, pull off an oversized sweater or hoodie better. Pure romantics also look better in kind of fluttery, flowy dresses. Even overweight, my narrowness makes me look kind of lost in them, which I find so sad lol. Anyway, hope this helps 🤗

    You are amazing Aly, so accurate!!! I live in Latinamerica and now I've realised why most of women dress so colorfully and flashy... most of them are on the romantic side, quite pettit, delicate and at the same time very spicy!! I though it was just bad taste (I'm kind of austere looking) but now I've realised that is a matter of essence and vibe. I can't even wait to see the Dramatic Icon, wich according to the test (that I had to repeat 4 times 😂) is my type.... Saludos desde Asunción, Paraguay 🙋‍♀️

    Wow, I am not romantic but your description of Elizabeth’s body structure is very very similar to mine. The short torso, the high waist, long legs, can’t use high waisted pants, the bulkier appearance of the body (in my case is bones). I don’t look good with waist emphasis because of this. I feel that if you are petite no matter the body type, clothes tailored to your petit-ness is so important! I wish I was born in that time, my body and face seems to be in accordance to the beauty standards 60 years ago😭 not at all these days lol

    Very interesting video! As a romantic type I can share my solution to wear a bulky dress or shirt without looking bulky - I make a couple of pleats under every breast, very gentle and tiny, and may be on the center of my back. It creates some visual high waist emphasis but you still feel very comfortable in a wide dress. When I don't use that little trick I have the same problem as Elizabeth Taylor's in the 60's ;)

    As an ageing Romantic, nothing is harder to reconcile than a middle-aged thickening middle and the concept of keeping up ‘waist emphasis’. In all the comment and content on YT about body IDs (and this video is excellent btw) there is so little focus on how a body changes over time. This follows Liz Taylor over half a century! I wonder if it’s because so many commentators are young. I don’t blame her for focusing on the jewels once she lost her waspish waist. I’m tempted to switch to accessories myself, along with jogging bottoms.

    Aly I loved this video! I have always felt that as a casual person, a romantic, and short (5'1"), that it was not impossible but definitely a challenge to shop in these times. You confirmed for me that too many puffy ruffles and "width" is too much for a shorter romantic. I have tried to add a few details here and there, but I like to keep things simple. I love the photos of Elizabeth in a boat neck tee, 3/4 length sleeve, simple pants, or shorter sweaters. I do that too. Little heels, yes! Soft wavy hair, a little "done" compared to other styles dressing, and jewelry!! Check check!! Her 70's looks are wild! I'm not attracted to that, but she really was amazing. Thanks for the videos, I'm going to check some more out...

    =D Your use of the word "tits" is very endearing, haha. Clear note, it is very obvious in context that you are not vulgar at all and this is a second language whoops happening (am speaking German as my native language and English second and definitely been there before), but yes, "bust" or "chest" is a more professional term to use in the future, but don't sweat it, it's clearly nothing scandalous. This was a very informative video. I am a rather "busty" Soft Classic and like watching Romantic style guides for accommodation there (even though it does not yet throw off "balance"), and your style analysis is lovely as always. You're a breath of fresh air. Thanks for creating lovely content.

I am definitely a petite romantic when it comes to my figure, but I am always drawn to flamboyant geometric style. Hi its lovely to become a member and I'm enjoying watching your vlogs immensely and it's such a joy to see these images again of such iconic legends of our silver screen again and photos of the amazing old age of Hollywood and screen icons, fashion and dedications thank you so much. Just my own mild humble opinion is that I would like to hear maybe some more reverence and homage from you upon your dedications ( I'm not trying to sat that you are appearing disrespectful in any way, but I guess in some way I am being more mindful of say the character and respect that these icons deserve etc... In other words, if the Dame OBE Herself Miss Elizabeth Taylor was indeed alive today it gives us a sense of how she would feel and her impression of "what you" are talking about,and maybe to question in your own thoughts and empathy, how would you truly feel she would interpret your opinion of her? This is only my humble opinion asi am not qualified in any way at knowing anything about the psychology of determining the character of an individual by the way they look as its purley biased and subjective. I do agree that we are all able to express upon uutube, or admittedly globally free speech upon anything we wish to say, and express opinions upon whatever we see fit etc.. but I'm just trying to give another type of feedback here to suggest... maybe it's worth a comment or a disclamier at the end of each video saying of course " this is your own private opinion about things and yes indeed you have provided some incredible facts and historical interest which is amazing and it's fascinating to listen too? But maybe it's just worth giving your own take upon how you would think Dame Elizabeth would have herself have responded to this should she sadly be alive? She was indeed, in my opinion one of the most incredible powerful legends of the silver screen of her time, a truly hugely significant figure in terms of her iconic beauty and radiance and indeed, a very powerful self taught actress and her work upon the stage was incredible. She was also a force to be reckoned with and an incredible strong and fiesty and determined character both on stage and off. My opinion humbly is not enough is said about her personality but I do agree upon both her shockingly beauty and her shocking strong character were matched in some capacity... But still she is treated literally still in Britain as a Queen of the Stage and Screen, she did expect this homage where ever she went... however that was the way she had created her life to be.... I would just like to see more verbal homage too these icons slightly more, if that would be ok? But as I say please don't take any offense here, as we are all able to remain open and transparent upon our reactions and observations Best regards and look forward to seeing more Marie 🌺

But I did notice that when I wore something with a sharp/harsh emphasis on my waist (I wore this leather jacket and high-waisted jeans) it looked kinda weird in a picture. But when I'm wearing a short form-hugging tshirt and my baggy pajama pants, it looks weirdly nice? 😆 I don't know what I am tho; I get very discouraged when I go shopping in Beyond Retro or whatever and everyone looks so cool but I don't 🥸 Also I'm so confused about my hair, I think I have between an oval/long face, but I have fine straight-ish hair. And my hips are my NEMISIS! Any trousers I want to buy can never get past my wide hips, but they would fit my waist fine!!! 😫
