I'm a 41 year old American with German and Irish heritage. I've always had a weird interest in WW2 and at a family reunion when I was 25 my great grandpa gave me a book "Tiger ace" and said this was your great uncle. I was shocked because it was about Michael Wittmann someone I was familiar with and share a variation of the same last name. Then showed me paperwork from Ellis Island in the 30s when my family came and it was spelt like Wittmann. I know way too much about WW2 to even consider thinking he fought for a good or decent cause but it's interesting that my great uncle is ARGUABLY the greatest tank commander in history! Even crazier is my Irish decendants from my mom's side were in France as American allys and within 40 miles of gim when he was finally killed in France. 30 years later those 2 families married. Truly insane how a word war affects everyone and make a gigantic earth pretty small

If you don’t think the crusade in the East was a good cause then you been fooled by propaganda. How many millions did the Soviets murder during times of peace? How many millions were starved, arrested, shot, tortured and worked to death by the millions? At least Germanys so-called crimes were committed during times of war. We can’t say that for the Soviets When Hitler’s victims numbered in the hundreds Soviet crimes numbered in the millions! 😡 And let’s not forget, other than capitalist joos like Armand Hammer, our relationship with the Soviets was based out of convenience and geography nothing more. A bridge too far. A pragmatic approach in order to win the war. The reason why I remind you this is because the enemy of our enemy is our friend thus the Soviet Union becoming our ally. But last I checked in 1946 the enemy of my enemy became our friends and on that note, Germany has been an Allie ever since. 😉 It was Hitler who first waged war against communism and we continued that struggle all the way up to 1989. So I take Patton’s position, “We fought the wrong enemy” Let’s not forget, liberal capitalists funded the Bolsheviks as a revolutionary means in order to overthrow the old order. Fascism was a desperate attempt to roll back these revolutionary Bolshevik forces who were funded by capitalists. That’s a fact. So I dont hold it against you for thinking Germany was the ultimate evil. Besides, Hitler was a douche bag anyways but… he did try to slay the beast in the East Nothing is as it seems!

Now, back in 1943 an acquaintance was a child, age 6 or so, growing up in a Croatian village. One day German soldiers came, stayed in the village houses, and in the evening shared their meat cans with the locals. However, children could not digest a fat-rich food and vomited. Both soldiers and troop "doctor" were obviously very upset, gave children some powder and till the next morning all was fine. A detail: this acquaintance remembers that the soldiers had "small flowers all over their clothing". That's how she saw the camouflage patterns. Unfortunately, there is a story from 1944, with one detachment of some SS unit, allegedly Frundsberg, extinguishing a village in northern Croatia, killing 36-42 women, children and old people. Were they attacked from the direction of that village, were the partisans Croats or Italian communists, remains unanswered. Were these SS Germans or even Serbs(?) serving in SS, remains also unanswered.

It was written as Soviet war law and tactics in order for Russians to dress up as SS soldiers to do these things to villages to propagandize of this. They would often leave one person or a handful to tell the story and to get the population to hate and despise the Germans and SS

Great content. Thorough for just over an hour.
Great documentary and excellent footage of the events that unfolded. The Tiger tank was truly a menacing behemoth that just has a certain appeal to me out of all of the tanks that were a part of the war. The iconic silhouette of the 88 cannon and heavy armour just shows the level and skill of German engineering at that time.
your video is very good. im a history buff and love a good film, but you have created a great film. love to follow you and your films!

All in all, excellent content! Remarkable.👍👍 Most a pity that you missed the battles of Totenkopf and Wiking around warsaw in summer and autumn 1944, were both divisions, alongside the divisions of the wehrmacht, achieved astonishing defensive victorys.

The great Germans were heroes. The USSR would have collapsed without the Lend-Lease Act and help from Britain (intelligence). Loss of food would have sealed the fate of the soviets (unless helped by foreign powers fighting for communism) The soviets got enough food from the USA to feed its soldiers for the rest of the war, 12 million boots , 60 percent aluminum and steel, a lot of tin , 90 percent of railway equipment ( the soviets would never have been able to conduct offensives so fast and transfer their main armies to critical points , 300000 trucks were given , 65 percent of aviation fuel and much more apart from 15 percent tanks ,aircrafts Soviet sympathizers say "only 15 per cent was given to USSR"

Kursk was the battle where the Russians out thought, out generalled, out maneuvered, out fought, and beat the Germans on every measure. There was intense bravery on both sides but this was a catastrophic loss for Germany.
Ordinary Western Allied divisions were able to effectively deal with these "elite" German formations. These so-called elite divisions were only elite compared to other German divisions. For example, an American infantry division with its usually attached tank battalion was superior to any Panzegrenadier division. In contrast, German infantry divisions were saddled with thousands of horses. Also, all infantry in an American amored division were mounted on halftracks. Only the Panzerlehr was equal to an American armored division in terms of mechanization.

It seems that German tank commanders take credit for enemy kills, but what about the gunners, the ones that actually perform the aiming and firing? Do they get credit for a kill?

The commanders have selected and trained the gunners. They did not get medals but they did get to meet and shake hand with the Fuhrer.

Yeah, they got some scraps. Promotion to Feldwebel, an iron cross 2nd class, 3 days leave etc. A good tank commander wasn't worth much with a good gunner or driver.

VE Day was celebrated recently. This commemorates when Multiculturalism and Globalism defeated Nationalism. And this is why we mustn’t be allowed to have our own Nations anymore. That does not mean they were not elite troops. It’s like if a murderer got a headshot in somebody from 100 yards. Just because he is a felon does not mean he is not an excellent marksman, does it?
An unforgivable mistake when talking about the Wittman action at Villers Bocage where it refers to knocking out Churchill tanks. There were no Churchills involved in that action! They were Cromwell tanks in the action which are a completely different type of tank! They are cruisers as opposed to infantry support tanks like the Churchill which was a heavily armoured tank and much slower. The only other British tanks involved in the action were a few Sherman Fireflies which were either knocked out or captured and some Stuarts which were the recce troop. It's not as if it's an obscure action either as there have been numerous books written on the subject!
Cool learn something new
