I love that we can see the shock, loss and pain in the eyes and in the body language of Carmen’s friends in this scene! I love it when plays don’t cast them aside, they really add depth to Carmen’s character, who’s not only a seductress defined by her lovers but also a cherished friend and a woman as a whole

Listen to Agnes Baltsa and Jose Carreras for heartbreaking passion, careless love, and gorgeous sound. They soar.

Garanca sounds really heavy, no wonder because she already sings Eboli, Amneris… no turning back now

Brain Jadge is a great singer but he can't act his way out of a paper bag. Garanca is fabulous as always, however.

Best ending is where she kills him in self defense. Women are not property!

That's not what Bizet OR Prosper Merimee wrote. If that's what you wanna see, write your own opera. Sorry, I'm tired of masterpieces being vandalized.

Yeah, but it doesn't make any sense regarding the lyrics. The setting must respect what is said, otherwise it is stupid if you understand lmao. Being politically correct is lame and does not have its place in arts.

Carmen was a very toxic person, and so was Don José. The opera is a perfect description of a toxic relationship, from both sides. Carmen was manipulative and unreliable, and don José went completely mad and let himself be driven by lust. None of them is innocent and just because Carmen is a woman, it doesn't mean that she is not toxic.

There is something called love or infatuation but he had given up everything for her, she led him on, betrayed him and in the end made fun of him. So I love the finsl scene when she gets what she deserves. Men are not property either that a woman can enjoy and then just toss when a new one shows up

So women "deserve" to be murdered because they fell in love with someone else? WTF?

That’s the thing, she never lied to him. In the habannera, the first time she ever interacted with José, she exposed everything to him. He knew Carmen couldn’t be chained to anyone and yet he choose to ignore it. + Even if she is uncaring and selfish she didn’t ’’deserve’’ to be murdered. José just has anger issues that existed before Carmen (his violence led him to need to flee his old country with his mother)

@@elisabetta611 Well, not fell in love, Carmen is only driven by lust. But murder is wrong regardless.

@@x_n_x_gal9161 no she wasn't? not any more than don josé was (got distracted by the sexualy bolder carmen when he was supposed to love and mary another). she did love him and that caused her friends to nag her about how she is missing her duties to help them while she would wait for him to come back to her. carmen and josé's relationship was passionate if not explosive and there was lust and misplaced selfish love on both sides
