    I work at a public library, and not only do we usually have girl scout moms donate cookies because they like the library, but all the old people who come up for coffee will bring leftover boxes of cookies for me that they didn't want to finish off. It's a pretty good time.

    Why is Troy tossing a box of Thin Mints in the thumbnail? If Troy is a Thin Mints hater, I don't know if his love of Christmas will fully balance out this transgression. Edit: He hates the Thin Mints 😔

    Consider the following Recall Knowledge House-Rule to better clarify matters.... ------ **Recall Knowledge** ------ * No need to specify which skill you want to use. * The GM will choose the most poignant/beneficial for you to try - often a combo of lowest DC and/or skill with highest bonus ------ When trying to "Recall Knowledge" about a creature, you may ask ONE question about a creature. To make it less vague/open-ended, consider using the following - most likely to help you during Encounter-mode. GM may elect for you to pick ONE of the following (per Recall Knowledge Attempt) or roll a d8: ------ * 1 **Immunities** or **Resistances** (answer limited to 2 ; even though more may exist) * 2 **Weaknesses** (answer limited to 2 ; even though more may exist) * 3 **Saving Throw Order ** (highest to lowest) * 4 All **Traits** ...AND... **Languages** most likely to be understood/spoken ...AND... GM chosen "excerpts" from the creature's description (not the entirety of the creature description) * 5 Unusual **Passive** abilities - likely limited to one * 6 Unusual **Reactions** *or* (One, Two, or Three) **Action** Abilities - likely limited to one * 7 **Speed** - type(s) & value(s) * 8 Player's choice ------ * A ***Critical Success *** allows for TWO (2) questions to be asked. IF... no "useful" information is yielded from a question - e.g. creature has no weaknesses/immunities/resistances/unusual passive/active abilities THEN... GM *may* allow player to ask a different question or GM may pivot to other information that may serve a useful purpose to the players. * Each Recall Knowledge *failure* results in the DC increasing by +2 for each subsequent check. * No more than three (3) Recall Knowledge *checks* may be attempted for a creature (per PC) without additional research being performed during days/weeks of downtime.

    @Chadius

  • @133TME

    @133TME

    risky medicine doesn't work with assurance. When using assurance, it's just 10 + proficiency, you don't add any other modifiers. So assurance is only useful at level 3, unless you get expert in medicine at level 2 (by taking the medic archtype probably, not sure if there's any other way.)

  • @luc1829

    @luc1829

    2 ай бұрын

    @@133TME he did take Medic. So he's an expert already. But if he takes assurance next level, even without the +2 from risky surgery, all successes are crits. So he could just *always* heal for 4d8. But that being said... all he needs to roll is a 3 or higher to crit anyway.

  • @133TME

    @133TME

    2 ай бұрын

    @@luc1829 Ah ok, I'd forgotten/ maybe never learned he'd taken that. Then yeah, risky surgery is good. Tbh though, in my games I don't actually care how much I heal out of combat. Once you have continual recovery + ward medic (which I think are worth prioritising over risky) it's a rare GM that doesn't just let you heal the party to full out of combat. Actually making each individual treat wounds check gets pretty tedious pretty quickly. I honestly wish battle medicine continued working as it currently does, but treat wounds was simply an hour to heal a party member to full, ward medic let you target multiple people and continual recovery reduced it to 10min to heal up, or maybe half an hour.

    Regarding the banter discussion, if you plan to run RK checks as secret checks, it’s useful to have critical failure information prepped before hand. The bestiary flavor text even often includes rumors and misinformation as stuff to pull from. When reviewing monster stat blocks as GM prep, just have the Critical Failure knowledge ready to go as well for those creatures and that’s enough for that session. If rolling publicly, less important. You can create something on the fly with a delay or skip it. The players know they rolled a Nat 1 in that case.

    When I roll a secret recall knowledge check and they crit fail, I tell them something almost true but wrong in a way that will lead them to do the exact wrong thing and then immediately realize they crit failed. So for example, a player knew this pool of magical liquid was some kind of trap and rolled to identify it and crit failed. I told her that it was there to protect the holy artifacts at the bottom (true) and therefore dealt a huge amount of good damage (pre remaster). As it turned out it actually dealt force damage and so when the PC touched it they almost died instantly.

    That's so weird. Like I know its Joe but with Risky Surgery giving a +2 and crit on a success....I feel like he should be healing way more than he is and failing far less often. like even if he goes for the 15 DC he needs to roll like a 3 to do 4d8+5 healing every time. and the 20 DC is only an 8 on the die for a critical success.

    correction, the extra 5 is only with the 20 DC from Medic. But still. a 3 or higher gets him 4d8 of healing for the price of 1d8 damage. its pretty much always worth it unless the 1d8 would actually kill the character
