Bob Newhart, who played Papa Elf, has been around for a long time. He previously had two successful sitcoms, "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart", and in more recent years, he had a recurring role on "The Big Bang Theory".

Bob Newhart started in entertainment making comedic albums in the 60s. His first album "The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart" went to Number 1 on Billboard and was the first comedy album to win Grammy's Album of the Year. His was a unique comedy style where he would deliver one side of a conversation, implying the other person's (unheard) responses. He was a comedic genius. All the first scenes of Buddy in New York, walking the streets, the chewing gum, interacting with strangers were all done without permits, no extras and one camera... they just told Will Ferrell to improvise everything, talk with strangers (he got some rude responses). Throughout the movie... they always did 2 takes for every scene... the scene according to the script and then the "Will" take where they would just cut him loose.

Santa and the Dad elf are huge parts of one of the best "must watch tv" nights ever: Saturday nights on CBS in the mid 70's: All in the Family, MASH, Mary Tyler Moore Show with Ed Asner (Santa), Bob Newhart Show (dad elf), and the Carol Burnett Show. And That woman is Mary Steenburgen who was in Whats Eating Gilbert Grape -- Time after Time (one of my favorites) Back the the Future 3 and tons of other movies too
this is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time and I watch it every year for the holidays. I still say "son of a nutcracker!" when something bad happens lol also, fun fact: Will Ferrell modeled the character of Buddy after his 5-year-old son at the time. Happy Jingle Beans!
"Stranger than fiction" is also very good Will Ferrell movie :)
FYI one of the elf’s is Ralphie from A Christmas story. And James Caan was in The Godfather. He was also in El Dorado with John Wayne. Edit: oh yeah and misery like you said
Congrats on 100k, I just saw that! Love your reactions and can’t wait to see more!
BEANS DOES look like she’s lost weight! You’re doing a very good thing by helping her with the diet. I’m sure she’ll feel so much better and have a long life. Keep up the great work!
The stp-motion stuff is an homage to the Rankin and Bass TV Christmas specials from the 1970s. You MUST react to then! Start with Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer!!!

Which BTW did not correctly do the copyright notice and is completely Public Domain! Ashleigh could theoretically show the whole movie.

@@grahamers i have a copy of the movie, the year on the copyright is incorrect. And therefore invalid. The specific representation of those characters are not copyright protected.
Welcome to movie buff brain freeze! It is so irritating knowing an actor and not being able to place them. Loved the review and elf is definitely a seasonal must for me!
The Little Person actor is Peter Dinklage. He is from a ton of things including Game of Thrones, Death at a Funeral, a bunch of TV shows, and a few other movies...he also has done some voice acting I believe.
Great reaction Ashleigh, I always look forward to your videos, they always brighten up my day..
Will Ferrell actually got constant headaches from all the sugary stuff he had to eat while making this. He's normally a very healthy eater with a low tolerance for sugar. (For the record, the "cotton balls" he ate were actually cotton candy.)
I needed this today. Thank you.
This is my all-time favorite Christmas movie! It came out when I was around 13. It's sad but funny how I can now relate to the boss at Gimbel's being worried about corporate cuts, and the "26" year-old coworker in the mailroom saying he has great ideas, but no one listens and he has to get OUT of the flow. Haha. Glad you liked it!
I’m probably going to watch this reaction multiple times this month. Thank you!! 🎄
I relate to Buddy living with the elves so much. I'm 6'7", so for me and anyone taller than me, this is what our daily life is like.
I watch Elf every Christmas. Still makes me laugh, smile and cry. I'm so excited for you to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas! I still remember getting the vhs on my 6th birthday. My mom and me watch it every Halloween and Christmas. One of my favorite stop motion movies are "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", and "A Year without a Santa Clause." Then I watch "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" for New Years.

Yes. The Nightmare Before Christmas is indeed a two holiday classic
These are great reactions. Your energy makes me happy haha. Keep it up
The "elf" at the board meeting is Peter Dinklage, also known as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO television series Game of Thrones.
I am one of those that’s not a huge Will Ferrell fan. That being said, I adore the movie Stranger than Fiction. It’s not a typical super silly Will Ferrell film. Totally unique story. Also with Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah.

Same! Love that movie.
One of the things that made me laugh so hard was seeing Will Ferrell 6’4” trying to use the Elf facilities. You know that probably happens to him IRL. 😂❤️💚
Going home to watch this now. Your reaction that is. Can't wait!
Hope you and Hubbin and Beans are all ok after those storms last night!!! Love you guys! ❤️
Elf is cute but I think my fave Wil Ferrell movies are still Stranger Than Fiction and Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I hope we get to Legally Blonde because that is also a classic feel good movie.

"Stranger Than Fiction" is a great movie.
8:57 You stopped yourself from having an Adele Dazeem moment! I don’t know if I’m impressed or disappointed.
Love that shirt and can’t wait to see you watch Elf! This is going to be a fun watch. Merry Christmas kids!
8:45 "Santa!!! Oh my God!!!" That part gets me and laugh
