I would suggest rerouting the gas line so it is not in the proximity of the main grounding stick, and in a way that lightning cannot hit it easily.

I'm so glad you, your wife, and your home are safe. Just a thought... I was of the assumption that all gas and water plumbing is supposed to be bonded to the grounding pin/system unless the plumbing is non-metallic. Maybe that's just Minnesota code. But, under that scenario, the arc wouldn't have happened as the paths of conductivity would've been parallel. (If A is connected to B, B is connected to A.) Just something to consider to keep yourselves and your home safe during the storms of Summer.

Good thing you got it put out in time, things got have gone bad quick. Lightning is always one of my biggest worries.

Wow, just goes to show that a fire can start at anytime. It was a good thing that Andrew knew how to deal with the situation quickly before it escalated. Hope the insurance company can clean up the hole and other damage quickly!

After watching this video, I'm glad your house didn't burn down from a direct lightning strike. The surge caused your breakers to trip. Never run a ground wire near a gas line or use it as a grounding rod. Best advice that I can say is make sure u get your breaker panel checked out after this. Could have internal damage. Been an electrician for close to 20 years.

Let me guess what happen after I saw your ADT system in the Christmas video when you went downstairs to get your present yeah I saw in the background your ADT system was it annoying and keep beeping after you get the power back on

Do you know if the woman in the video (I assume your wife) was okay with being with the video? She was asking you to stop filming (possibly because she didn't want to be on camera), so I don't know if she would want to be edited out of the video. I'm glad no one was hurt, and that the ElevaTOURS elevator museum was not damaged.

tip get a wireless security system and have it monitored they have wireless smoke detectors and wireless window and door contants just a though that help protect you if you are not home and fire starts alarm grid website has wireless alarm system and do it your self they also have a yotube channel where you can watch and learn how to on your own
