I always hate this quote every time I hear it, because it discounts the (very real) possibility of an escalator becoming a terrifying free-moving toothed metal death slide.

That’s by design, an English speaking audience probably has no idea what the Osaka region is like and how the people stereotypically act and sound, but they probably know how various english accent sounds and the stereotypes associated with. Thus they give Osaka a southern accent as that’s the closest available match two the vibes of an Osakan accent
