True, although I loved that he started cracking up prior to his punchline/imitation of the Siamese elephants. (He starts smiling at around 4:09 and eventually starts laughing at 4:28.) But to see him completely lose it after her ad-lib was the icing on the cake.

Vicki had a talent for staying in character when reacting to Tim's shenanigans, she claimed it was because she was mostly too terrified to break. There's an early rehearsal of Mr. Tudball where Vicki plays Tim's wife, and she got him to break there.

Vicki's deadpan, ticked-off delivery sold the final punchline! Fans of the show will remember how her character in the recurring Family sketches was the crotchety old Mama, Carol's character's mother, although Vicki was 16 years younger. Here, Carol is 45, Vicki is 29, and it's the show's last season in 1978. The two enjoyed a long friendship, starting when a 17-year-old Vicki sent Carol a fan letter, and Carol decided to cast the teen as her younger sister on the show, in 1967 after Vicki turned 18. Now aged 90 and 74 respectively, these two great ladies will always be lovingly remembered by the fans.

This is kind of a bittersweet thing to watch. My mother loved that show, and that bit was her all-time favorite T.V. Moments. She loved to tell people about it. In fact, that was the last thing she ever did. She was in the hospital recovering from a major heart attack. My brother and a family friend were visiting her and she was talking about that skit. When she finished the story, she laid back and she was gone. It hurt to see her go, but a few months later I was discussing her passing with a coworker and I said, "she finished her story and then she was gone." There's just something beautiful about that realization and the fact that this was the last story she wanted to tell.

@@kevinmcgiffin10I grew up watching the show with my family, and I think all of us that did are very fortunate. Comedy is very subjective and is also dependent on context. Not just in the immediate, but the culture and the times that people live in. Compared to today, the seventies were a more innocent time and there was a place for this kind of humor. However and quite unfortunately, we live in a much different world today. As a result, humor, which to a large degree exists as a form of relief from stressful circumstances, has also changed dramatically and there is very little place for this more innocent form of comedy.

I grew up watching the Carol Burnett show and Mama's Family and I always hit up KZread every few months to watch cast bust ups during some of the funniest sketches to ever hit television audiences and I know a ton of people my age and younger who do the same. Also can't forget about the absolute legends who are still with us in Carol, Vicki, Mel Brooks and Dick Van Dyke.

I love this story for two reasons: 1) Vicki's final line, breaking up Tim and Dick and Carol (Carol was already broken up, but still) is one of the funniest moments in TV history, right up there with "As god is my witness I thought turkeys could fly!", "What does a yellow light mean?", and "I had this dream where I was an innkeeper in Vermont!" 2) I have slayed by repeating Tim's elephant story. It still lays 'em in the aisles, decades later.
Conway caused convulsions and enjoyed the hell out of it, as did the viewers. I don't believe any one person has ever been a source of more laughter than he was.
this is my favorite Tim Conway so funny. and its so funny how the others try so hard not to get out of character.
Tim Conway was one of the best comedians to ever grace the little screen. WHen he is paired up with Harvey or Don Knotts, hilarity ensues and he KNOWS what buttons to press to get the co-star going. Look at all the old man sketches with Tim and Harvey, especially the fireman skit. Chaffed from sliding down the pole. The walk, the CPR. Harvey couldn't hold back. Pure comedic genius and not once was a dirty word used, well, except for Vikki in this skit, which was the icing on the cake and SO appropriate.
Tim did all the set up and Vicki provided the classic punchline.

T.V. will never be that way again ! I really miss that show !
Great merge of these two clips into one package.
That is the funniest scenes in all tv history. Loved Carol’s show loved each of this cast, to see Dock Van Duck lose it just floored me and it was great hilarity
My all time favorite skit with "The Dentist" skit a close second!! Lol This show is by far better than any show today (2023).
The dentist sketch is my next favorite , Tim had Harvey so flustered it was funny as heck
One of the funniest things ever to air on tv
I was a faithful viewer of the show and to this day I remember that sketch and Vicki destroying Tim. Even though the line was bleeped, you could easily make out the WORD that laid waste to the cast! Thanks for that memorable moment in TV history, Vicki. and Carol!😂🤣
Carol says everyone keep it together, then she's the one that loses it.

But Carol still didn't break the fourth wall.

I get that part of it. However it's like being next to your scene partner hoping they keep a straight face. Carol is the lead star of the show.
