I watch this show fairly regularly with my niece and I was actually surprised that they had a character this complex and a song this deep in a little kid's show.. And on that note, this is my favorite song from the series

Certainly one of my favourite characters from the show!

this show was underrated fr, so much lord😭😭

The fact he feels actual guilt and remorse for the mistakes he made when he was a teenager shows a lot of character development and he's come a long away. I just watched the episodes and the lengths he went to try and not let them find out and in the end he was willing to let Victor tell Elena the truth showed he didn't care anymore. Even though Elena didn't believe what Victor said anyway Esteaban can finally move past his mistake and be free of it. Like Elena told him you can't change what happened years ago but you can change what you do now and he chose his family this time. Over power he chose his family and that's what matter. So Estaban knows he can live now knowing his family loves him and will be there for him no matter what and whatever happened over 4 decades ago is all forgiven and forgotten what matters is the family together and that's what important. So he can be free and just live free and be with his loved ones without guilt or shame because he's redeem himself now in his own eyes and he knows Elena has forgive him and that's who he needed it from the most. So even if she says she doesn't believe having her say what she did say still set him free and he needed to be set free for 41 years and now he's free.

I not sure about that. Elena sees him much like she did before the whole parents killed stuck in amulet for years thing happen. She can't imagine him betraying them so of course with only a caught thief word she wouldn't believe him to be a traitor. Only time will tell if she does learn and believe will she forgive him.

I can't believe I never realized this until now but notice the change in Esteban's verse: In the first one, he mentions how he must protect his "family's" heart and "their world" from being hurt. But in the second verse he talks about protecting HIS heart and keeping HIS world from falling apart, which would happen if he loses his family. Throughout the song, he wants to protect his family to spare them of the heartbreak of knowing he got half of them killed and brought harm to Avalor, but he then realizes that the same heartbreak that will break them down will break HIM down as he will likely be shunned forever. This song is just as much as Esteban protecting himself as it is protecting his family. Knowing what goes on in Season 3, it becomes incredibly ironic, because what earns Esteban his redemption and his family's forgiveness is by putting them above his own needs. This song in disguise, brilliantly highlighted Esteban's biggest flaw which the series goes on to fix. This song and show is fucking amazing.

Esteban is genuinely such a complex character. His constant battle with himself and what he thinks is “right” was one of the most interesting plot points in the show. At some point in the show, Elena views Esteban as “selfish” when in truth he never was atleast not in the way HE interprets it. As you’ve said, Esteban does everything he can for his family and the idea of them knowing the things he did when they were gone absolutely haunts him, to hurt them is something he would never do because if he hurts them he hurts himself. He’s the type of guy who wants to love but also wants to be loved, this show was genuinely soooooo good-I haven’t watched this show in a while so forgive me if I got anything wrong 😅

I actually cried he has such a complex character and backstory I can't wait to learn even more

Esteban's a great dancer

I have two favourite songs from this show, this one and "the right thing to do". They both involve Esteban and honestly, this is my favourite episode because it shows a side of him that I've never seen before, the side that cares for his family and would do anything for them not to find out about him working with Sheriki, and that with everything else about him makes him my favourite character

Did anyone notice the other dresses in the background?" Because I have a feeling that those dresses​ used to belong to the past Queens.

I actually always really liked him, and I am sure that he has a reason to do that because this songs just feels like if he would be really sad that he has to do it.

That room is where Shuriki's wand is hidden. Makes me glad they don't show it in this episode. Elena and Naomi must've hidden it cleverly where nobody will ever find it in that room.

I’m partially here for when the sh*t hits the fan, but I also wonder why no one figured it out ages ago. I mean, everyone else connected to the throne was either killed or magically hidden away. And Elena already had one cousin who sold out his people to Shuriki.

0:38 is my favorite moment in this song. I love how they timed and choreographed that. This episode made me love Esteban. I look forward to the truth eventually coming out regarding his involvement with Shuriki's takeover. I hope it has some consequences and doesn't just get forgiven neatly in a single episode. That'd undermine the emotional depth of the situation.

I hope by the end of the show they do forgive him and he really can show his regret. But the fact that Elena and the family except their grandfather was even willing to try and forgive him leaves me disappointed. First off they don't preach all the time you need to forgive for no reason. Because it's true. Being angry or hating Estaban does nothing. It only makes their ugly side come out and show on one hand they aren't good people. Hate and anger are poision and it will only destory you if you let it consume you. Again from this song and everything he did after he DID help bring Shruki down shows he's repentated and tried to use his second chance best he could. It's as they say. YOu don't forgive others you won't heal. You need to forgive. Shurki used him to get what she wanted and he's truly remorseful. Futhermore I don't think Elena parents would be angry or blame him. They would likely forgive him. And they be upset with the rest of the family for NOT forgiving him. So I hope when the final showdown comes they make up and finally forgive each other. That's the only way I'll be satified because her being angry and unforgiving isn't a good trait for a leader. And to be a better person and a better leader forgiveness would be a good quality to have.

Kelseyalicia I like to imagine in the season finale (in which Elena will become Queen), after Esteban has completed his malvago training, he and Ash will plot to takeover Avalor and rule it in their own right. Before the invasion, Esteban makes Ash promise no harm will come to anyone. No civilian casualties, no harm to his family, and certainly not Elena. Ash keeps her word, but secretly thinks Elena will still be a threat to her, even when imprisoned, and plots to kill her for real. As the invasion begins and Ash and Esteban wreck havoc in the city below, the royal family is moved to a safe part of the palace. Elena meanwhile, along with Gabe, Mateo, Naomi, Victor and Carla, form a defensive position around the castle. Later on (the battle has made its way into the palace) the group spilt up, with Esteban going after Gabe, Naomi and Victor and Ash going after Elena, Mateo and Carla. Esteban is soon able to disable his adversaries, and lock them in the dungeo, along with Luisa, Francisco and Isabel. He promised no harm will be brought to any of them, but then starts to feel conflicted when Luisa starts crying and calls Esteban a monster, saying he’s not her grandson. Esteban, heartbroken starts to wonder if this is the right thing to do, but nevertheless goes to join Ash. Meanwhile, Ash has been able to gain the upper hand against Elena after a long hard fought battle, which saw Ash petrifying Carla, blast Mateo out the window and knock Elena’s sceptre out of her hand and into the sea. As Ash is about to deliver the killing blow, Esteban runs in, screaming at her that this is not what he wants, and that she promised she wouldn’t harm anyone. Ash evilly mocks the former chancellor, calling him out for his naïveté and trusting people he shouldn’t (or in this case her). She calls him out for his mistakes and tells him his own cousin will now die because the he made the same mistake that got his aunt and uncle killed. Ash fires a killing spell at Elena, but INCOMING DARK THEORY: Esteban teleports into the spells flight pattern, wounding him. Elena (shocked that Esteban has just saved her) takes advantage of a distracted Ash and blasts a stun spell at her with Esteban’s staff, knocking her unconscious. The princess holds her dying cousin in her arms, begging him to stay alive. Esteban stops her, saying it’s too late, and she can’t save him. I’m he tearfully and hurtfully apologises to her, telling her he didn’t want this to happen. He recalls the mistake he made when he trusted Shuriki who went back on her word. Because of him, Elena lost her parents. He wasn’t going to let the same thing happen to Elena. An emotional Elena apologises and finally finds it in her heart to forgive him. Esteban tells her “now my life is complete. We will see each other again, prima, one day, Queen Elena” before succumbing to his wounds and dies. A tearful Elena hugs her cousins dead body and whispers in his ear “rest easy, primo (cousin)” Now of course this theory might be a little too dark for a Disney junior series, but it would be cool if something g like that happened.

Jodi Ivan Lumbantoruan I mean it's an amulet of Avalor since they are in Avalor. The design was probably popular in the royal family but Elena/Sofia's had powerful magic while the other one probably doesn't. Otherwise it would be better secured.

I wish that in the same episode, Esteban would had told Elena that Shuriki’s rule over the Kingdom of Avalor for 41 years wasn’t the only thing that has haunted him; he would asked his young cousin if she remembered the part of the castle where her parents were blasted by that sorceress. Elena would definitely remember on that day when her parents were taken away from her. Esteban asked her if she saw him before she was kept within her amulet when Shuriki blasted her. Elena answered she didn’t see him. There that Esteban would’ve said that he wished that he could’ve had made himself be seen; he could’ve made a move, he could’ve had done something to distract the sorceress so that King Raul and Queen Lucia would’ve had an escape to safety. But no, he hid like a coward, hiding behind a corner, doing nothing, watching everything despite his heart screaming at him to do something. He has deep regrets for not listening to his heart when he should have done. There are times that his own heart bitterly despised him for letting them be perished. After Issabel and their grandparents were put in an enchanted portrait by Alacazar to protect them, Esteban was found by the sorceress and to save himself, and keep Shuriki from finding a way to destroy the portrait that contained his remaining family members, he falsely pledged his services and devotion to her. In turn, Shuriki made him as her new chancellor. Even though she’s been defeated, Esteban would still feel the guilt for allowing Raul and Lucia be destroyed and there’s nothing he can ever do to bring them back and to fix his tragic mistake he did to Elena.

He was right to hide it up until a certain point. This early on, the wound was still a little too fresh. But sometime in season 2 he should have come out and said it. It would have hurt less coming from him

What does Isabel think about Esteban’s betrayal? We never got to hear her opinion when she found out her secret.

This song has tons of foreshadowing in it. Basically it one part of the season 3 puzzle

Yeah they all took it way too personal (except Francisco.) until the series finale. Especially Elena because she loved her parents and she saw them die by Shuriki and Esteban helped her do that. NEWS flash Elena you weren’t the only one who saw it. Both he and Victor witnessed it too. Love can make people blinded by anger.

Something tells me Sophia as much as Elena's parents in the finale of the Elena of avalor Show Sophia with tell Elena to forgive her cousin and since this is Sophia were talking about this may as well lead to a happy ending just like in the original ending of the Elena of avalor show Oso Elena of avalor is basically a prequel to the Sofia the first show I think by the Time season 3 of Elena of avalor started the Sofia the First show was already over and Sophia was already now a protector of the ever Realm that's our world in her show and Elena show

If my theory is right then in a way vor is the real one responsible in the real one that killed Elena's parents even though it does not really excuse Sharky's or her cousins actions since in my theory she's the one responsible for that's villain getting the Wanda and becoming evil so in a way she is the one that really killed Elena's parents not really shariki and not really her cousin

I'm disappointed that Elena didn't believe victor even if Esteban is sorry about what he did that doesn't change the fact that he did it and he should be punished for it he caused a lot of damage because of his lust for power he caused the entire kingdom to be enslaved, his grandparents (who practically raised him) and cousins were trapped in a painting/amulet for over 40 years, and he caused the deaths of his aunt and uncle poor Elena and Isabel are going to have to go through life without their parents now and no child should have to go through that plus we've seen in past episodes that he still wants power and has even tried to sabotage Elena to make himself look better I honestly don't think he's completely sorry

When Elena stated Esteban would never do anything to hurt his family, Esteban isn't TECHNICALLY lying in agreeing with that. If you remember in the movie, Shuriki went back on her promise to spare his family, so Esteban never wanted to hurt them, and definitely doesn't want to hurt them now. Keep in mind, Esteban wasn't such a bad guy under Shuriki's rule. He did quite a lot to improve the lives of Avalorians because Shuriki neglected her duties.

He may have changed sides but that doesn't change the fact that he betrayed them in the first place and probably was part of the reason the king and queen were killed. I keep wondering how Elena will take it if she ever realizes the truth.

Am I the only one who thinks somehow vor is responsible for turning Sharky's wand turning her evil because the green smoke that she has around her is kind of reminiscent of vor she's the final Villain at the end of the Sofia the First show the forever Royal special and she may as well be the first Disney villain and the Creator first most of the rest Disney villains clearly except for scar because he was infected by snakes Venom and he's an animal not trying to be species racist
