Elements of Your Shop Part 5: Stamp Racks

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This weeks video is all about stamp racks! Chuck goes over the Master Tools tool caddy, which can hold a variety of stamps as well as tools. Chuck also shows the larger wooden stamp rack seen in most of his videos.

I have been admiring that tool rack for a long time. I like the angle for being able to see all of the stamps better. A great future addition!

I'm sorry if you have answered this question before, if so, I couldn't find it. How far apart did you make the holes on the 4X4 piece of wood? Also, how long are the screws you put in the back to hold another rack. Thank you.

I’m glad I came across this video because I was wanting to get the tool caddy, but was trying to find a review / demo that shows more up close detail. Your video did just that and then some. 7:43

I made one out of a 2" thick piece of walnut I had laying around. I'm so glad you showed your wood rack in detail, I'll be making one like it! Thanks Chuck!

Since I don't actually have a shop or a large work area, I'm working in my apartment bedroom. I have just enough space to work with. I'm using a wire shelving unit that gives me room for the containers that hold my dyes, rivets, and other items. For storing my tools, I bought three little wire art supply organizers which have a drawer at the bottom, a small shelf above that, then a 3-level tier that has 9 angled slots on top. This allows me to organize stamps, cutting tools, threads, and other items. Since I'm using a folding table to do my work on, I set it up right in front of that shelving unit. It allows me to reach across the table to get to my tools and supplies. A good LED lamp clipped to the top shelf allows me to have good light to work in. I also have a couple of plastic magazine racks for books, pattern packs, and other sundries like craft-aids. When I need to do any stamping or punching, I have the top of what used to be a Lazy Susan that sits on my lap, and I put either my marble block or my punching board on top of that, that way I don't disturb my neighbors downstairs. Organizing your tools can be done in many ways, depending on what type of space you have available. You just need to look for things that will work for your space, and think of alternatives. I like my little wire organizers. They really work for the space that I have.

love the simplicity of your rack. i have a few of the old plastic racks. the hollow and opened sides design makes for a mess anytime the caddies are moved, especially if the tools are not straight. making a new one has been on my list for a while. as always Chuck, thanks for the inspiration and ideas.

You got it altogether Chuck. Now the question begs, do you put each tool back in the proper hole when you’re working on a project or do you lay it down on the table and walk away?

I have a suggestion for a Leather Element. Could you maybe go through when, why and if you should apply a top coat to the grain and/or flesh side of a hide, both for natural and already dyed leathers?

Noticed a small anvil in the closing scene of this video. Would like to know what design features a leather tooling anvil has that is different than a bench metal working anvil. Excellent series of videos, especially the barber strop project video. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there! We will link the anvil here for you but the main features are: • Countersink holes for riveting hame nails without smashing heads • V-groove for raising straps and layers • Large cavity to collect rivets that are knocked out www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/heritage-harnessmakers-combination-anvil
