ElementDriven Rear Hatch Release Kit Install - Honda Element

Toaster Entry #19: I finally get the chance to install the ElementDriven Rear Hatch Release Kit in the Toaster! This allows me to open and close the rear hatch from inside the vehicle, which was a design oversight that I have always wanted to fix!

Yo Buddy!!! Just saw your video! We are practically neighbors! I’m in Burlington. Love my Toaster! Did you go to Elements on the Dragon this year?

😂 I just commented on your other video about how I want to make this modification! I have a 2007. I love the fact that I can recline all of the seats to make a big mattress. I just went to a festival with my son, he is 14 months old, and we camped out in the element with the seats made into the mattress. It was his first festival. He absolutely loved it and he slept very well in the car. I was worried about his comfortability but he was perfectly content! Honda Elements are where it’s at! It’s like a better version of the Pontiac Aztek! I remember when those came out and I thought that they were so neat! They gave one away to the winner of the show Survivor the year they came out.

Just now saw this video. Great tutorial and so glad you got it installed. Unfortunate about the first missed hole (and the hand hitting the bolt). The included grease goes on the pivot point to make the pull action for the cable even smoother. So glad you now have easy access out the back of your cool ride. Cheers!

Yes, but remember there's also the research that went into figuring out where to put what part where. It's a lot of money sure, but I am totally okay paying for convenience sometimes! Thanks for watching! :)

I know! The price is ridiculously high! I found a couple posts on the Element Owners Club forum of their own modifications. It didn’t look as sleek as this modification, but it was way cheaper. I’m befuddled at the fact that the engineering team didn’t think about this when they were designing it.

No extra bracing added, no big hole in the facing side of the plastic panel so you have easy access if you have a platform bed or items stored up against the liftgate. Two holes in the plastic can be plugged if needed later. We designed the kit to last a long time, for ease of install and minimalistic in how it looks. We’re all for seeing people DIY their own hatch releases but we understand people also like ease of use. Some of these parts are hand made also. I spin the stainless cables personally myself (Jeff at ElementDriven). We’re all about helping people enjoy time in their Elements.
