Honestly they should have them built into the airframe. I know that the fuel tanks are filled with an inert gas like argon or nitrogen are added to prevent the vapors within the tanks from igniting in the event of a shorted wire arcing on the metal of the fuel tank or other wire. And yet to have something like that inside a cargo compartment(like with N904VJ Flight 592 that crashed 5/11/96), or in areas that flight critical for the safe operation of the aircraft. I would like to see something like that. But all the FAA most likely see is a possible heat source that could cause a fire inside of the aircraft and is the most likely reason why you’re not allowed to have it in your bag.

@@1LEgGOdt I can see why this stuff wouldn't be effective to fight an engine or baggage compartment fire. Engine fire suppression relies on a near instant flooding of fire foam into the engine. Newer baggage compartment fire suppression systems actually have a full 30 minutes or more of fire suppression. Thank you ValuJet 592. But it would be PERFECT for cabin fires

Fire extinguishers losing their charge is a very rare thing! they have the gauge so you can check and there is a time limit so every so often many months / years you're supposed to get it professionally inspected and you can get them refilled I have my FAA approved two and pound Halon type . Are the pyrotechnic type FAA, or Ferrari approved? I can pull the safety pin ( one hand )whilst it's still in it's bracket & with a special quick-release bracket from Summit Racing you Pull up and it's in your hand ( one hand again ) So can deploy it much faster than that pyrotechnic type where you have to take it and strike it and get it going w/ two hands . You are correct there are fires where no extinguisher will get it out you need to catch it early and need luck !

Yes, but if you follow the safety guidelines for proper discharge (or have been trained on usage) you must secure the flexible high pressure hose with your hand. Even if it only has a discharge nozzle, you must secure it with one hand while depressing the trigger. Not doing so could cause harm to you and others around you. If you are concerned with more capacity or a need for longer reach, the manufacturer of this product offers a commercial line product.

You could always install an internal fire suppression system. (Like what Nascar uses). Put the tank in the front trunk, put a switch on the dash to deploy (or just leave it up to automatic sensors). They are, of course, more spendy, but not too bad ($300-$500). Also, you might be able to get an insurance discount!

Sorry IMHO it is better to use a Halon type I have a two and a half pound in my Ferrari I'll p.m. you a photo it doesn't take up much room mounted in the passenger footwell ( and frankly it looks trick , racy and my insurance co. insisted on a extinguisher ) I think it works a lot better than that pyrotechnic type. but i am biased Ferrari fits a chubby 10 pound Halon bottle as OEM, an option .VERY expensive option ! Racers always use the Halon type. many will fit an onboard automatic/ manual system that can spray the engine compartment and/or passenger compartment. they are pricy! yes TRADITIONAL it has a discharge time of +/- 10 seconds you don't use it continuously you give short spurts that's the proper technique. And it is effective all conventional extinguishers last about the same amount of time the difference is the larger ones have more volume the pressure is the same . Let's say you have leaking fuel FUMES not already on fire and in ideal conditions (theoretically the pyrotechnics burning reaction can actually Set It Off catching it on fire! - hence they say to slowly approach a fire in their video ) I read they make a larger version of this w/ 100 seconds of action! thats good ! I hope you will use the bracket they supply as I have been in accidents where it might go flying out of the door card .hurts IF i bonks you on the head sans helmet ! - LOL finally I, did have an accident where I broke my arm and this stick type takes two good arms and hands ! you can pull the pin and deploy a conventional type w/ one hand/ arm . A bystander was able to deploy and use my conventional extinguisher . Would they know how to deploy the stick type ? esp IF you were incapacitated ?

The paper burnt itself out, terrible test. If there was some unburnt paper left, then that shows it put the fire it out, but instead it just dampens the flames while the paper burns itself out anyway. Not saying it's a bad device, I don't know, but that was a bad test.

@@normalguysupercar I do appreciate the test, but how hard/easy is it to blow the gas out? Can it be done with a strong fan or a sheet of wood waved at it?! Neither of those would be any good in a fire, but may put the gas out. I'd test it against something that is closer to how it may be used in the real world, an electrical fire on a fridge, a peice of wooden furniture which is starting to burn well. I've not seen these put out a reasonable fire yet and by reasonable I mean a fire which is strong and established enough that it can't be put out easilly with a damp towel.

If you don't actually know anything about Fire Extinguishers, you shouldn't be doing a video about them. Yes, the newer ones like what you showed are effective in some cases. But like anything they have flaws also. The larger Extinguishers have a purpose and work just fine fo the fires that they designed for. Here's an idea, why don't you contact your local fire department and ask them to teach you about Fire Extinguishers...

no its NOT perfect for anything except a very small fire. Buy a proper powder or foam for the car and a Co2 or wet chemical for the house. The fire caused by a series crash needs a major firepower. Gasoline mixed with melted plastic need serious products. I used to have 3kg dry powder
