Eleglide's M1 Plus: Is this the Number One Entry-Level e-Bike?

#camping #campervans #ebikes
I love this e-bike. It's essentially a hardtail mountain bike but I love its looks, I love how it runs and I love the price - less than £850! And that's as good as you'll find for an entry-level e-bike.

Hi Cameron, Its good to see you out and about again after your op. Being of similar vintage to yourself with a passion for the outdoors (particularly Speyside), I find your channel very relateable. I am considering getting an e-bike and was very interested in your review of the Eleglide M1 Plus. Do you still have it and is it living up to it's early promise? Thanks and best wishes, Len

Hi Cameron, it looks like a great bike for the money. And a choice of wheel sizes is good. I bought a folding electric bike for the wife a few years ago. It was reduced to £500 because someone bought it and returned it. New it was £750 and it just had the small wheels. Big wheels are always better.

I love this bike. It’s become my regular everyday steed and I ride it on roads and on forestry tracks mainly. I’ve put my comfy Brooks saddle on it and added end bars and softer grips. I’m getting between 40-50 miles per charge, depending how and where I ride it. Not had much experience in wet conditions yet but the hub motor is well sealed so shouldn’t be a problem. I think you’ve made a good investment,

The first thing that would put me off buying the bike, is that it caps the speed of each power mode. This means that to maintain an assist level of 15.5mph, that you need to use the highest power setting, which uses more of the batteries available charge. It makes more sense and efficiency to buy an ebike that uses a percentage level of assist per power setting

I should of added, that having owned ridden and reviewed ebikes for a period of about 15 years, that I do think that this is one of the best value bikes out there for anyone starting out, or wanting a simple full size commuter bike, and although the battery is unbranded, a replacement or spare battery is a negligible in cost, and that the bike is also available in either a 27.5" or 29" set up.

Yeah, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on buying this. The slightly cheaper M1 is tempting, but i think this is probably worth the extra. Bigger battery especially.

Can’t believe how heavy this bike is that would be a problem for many less able users it’s double the weight of many. Personally I wouldn’t really want (and I do have one) a hub drive on a MTB a pain if you have to replace a wheel. At least if it’s cheap and encourages someone to get on a bike then that’s not a bad thing and I have noticed someone using one for bikepacking.

Hi Chris. I've been riding e-bikes for about three or four years now in all weathers and I've never had an issue with water getting into the motor, either in a crank case motor or a hub motor like this one. This is actually a really good e-bike for the money.

It would certainly help but if it's fitness you want you'd probably be cheaper, and you'd get fit faster, by buying a normal bike at half the price. If you are really unfit then I'm sure this bike would help you enormously.

I would fdind it difficult to find a better bike for the price than this one. It's now replaced my gravel bike as my everyday bike. It's a very reasonable bike for the price, it's fairly well made and I've had no problems with it. To be honest most of these bikes from the Far East are very similar - I suspect many of them are made in the same factory - but I really only have experience of this one and the Himiway Fat Tyre e-bike which I think would be too heavy for day to day use.
