Most of the cottages you were showing were actually much larger and more grand than typical. Many, including the gardens, are more appropriate for a manor than a cottage.

I truly live in my dream house. Between two lakes, in the woods, log home with a stone foundation. Grateful every day.

Loved this, love learning. My style has been an eclectic one. I live in an urban (hood) area, low income, but love my home. I thrift and find that there are so many beautiful things to be found for your home. I try to teach this to my ladies from church. You do not need a lot of money to have a clean, well curated, elegant home!

Pat Ross had a book in the ‘80s called Formal Country. That has always been my style. I am a degreed interior designer but retired now.

This is very interesting as cottages are very different in the UK, the last word we'd use to describe your house is 'cottage'! Most of the houses in the photos wouldn't be classed as cottages over here either. Perhaps it's down to size as houses in the States are usually much bigger. Another enjoyable video x

I agree, nothing about their home is cottage. It's lovely, but it ain't a "cottage" home. We live in Maine. Coastal cottage here is becoming less rustic, a little more sophisticated, but a black and white home with soaring ceilings is certainly not the vibe here. Neither is "cottage core", for the most part. Way too feminine. Valentina and Jack always make me want to pay attention to what's out there, though. I like them a lot.

Agree! I was really surprised when she called it a cottage. Cottages tend to have smaller rooms, not open-plan, and low/average height ceilings.

Me, I think of my home and homes throughout my lifetime… You can have a Sophisticated Cottage home no matter where your home is located.

This is how I've been decorating my house for years. I don't care for a fussy house , don't care for modern. I like warm muted colors. That being said , everyone has different styles , thank goodness for that.

I started doing this idea 3 years ago. I didn't know what this was called till now. I hope to see more of this style. I live with antiques and new, hand me downs and unrealized treasures of a local antique store. Infusing some architecture or some chippy painted items made the look come together.

What sold me on my current home was the floor to ceiling stone fireplace. It definitely has the elegant cottage vibe.

*Cottage Style is my Happy Place* . I love the warm neutral palette, structure in textiles and touches of black iron for grounding. There were elements of the "Shabby Chic" vibe that I enjoyed, however, over time, the over-abundance of floral motif decor felt too busy and feminine. When I pulled back on that and added more wood tones, simple lines with a few touches of vintage styling objects, my space felt calm and balanced. I'm not one for patterned textiles other that stipes, window pane or plaid. I prefer to layer with textures, it keeps things interesting without looking flat and one-note.

I went through the same metamorphosis as you did with Shabby Chic pared down cottage is what I like now.

This is my style. I finally have a name for it, Elegant Cottage. Love it.

I have a small 25yr old cottage with upstairs in the high pitch roof space with dormer windows and surrounded by paddocks. It is cool having koalas and their bubs visit. Builder basic. I’m just painting the inside white and going with black and neutrals. One day I hope to replace the more expensive stuff like flooring and cabinetry. Love having the white TnG now in the main area. It was orange to match the wood floor and cabinetry. Not doing wallpaper or cottage core. Simple, peaceful and intentional is what I’m going for now I don’t live with a hoarder. ❤

As a gardener I love the elegance and country of this look! ❤

We recently downsized into a new build, which was very cookie cutter, but i did my best to make it mine in an elegant euro cottage style… i have some more modern pieces like my sofas and a few other things, but i have thrifted and refinished older pieces, i have some collected vintage pieces as well… i so love it all, especially the artwork which I have always loved classical art in golden frames of all kinds… it just makes me smile…I’m also very blessed to have a crafty husband who has put up beams, made me furniture,and has a great eye for design as well. Love the elegant cottage style. For authenticity, it should be a bit eclectic or a least have something unexpected and must have a few vintage or antique elements that add patina and richness.

We are currently renovating a 150 year old yellow brick farmhouse (litterally) that is a 3 minute drive to Lake Huron. So, we're definitely adding a cottage feel, with beadboard and hubby is very skilled so, building an entertainment unit on living room wall. I LOVE chinoiserie, so will be styling the shelves with that and other grassy textures and some brass. Would love to hear your thoughts on chinoiserie. I think it is most beautiful when balanced with other complimentary things and colours like brass and green and bright white pottery to keep it all interesting.

I’m so glad to have a name for the way we decorate and design. I don’t relate to cutesy, but everything about our house from the size (2300 sq ft) to the location (10 miles in the country on 13 acres) says elegant cottage. Thank you for putting a name to our design style.

I live in a 1907 tudor revival and consider it cottage style. Stone exterior and stone fireplaces make it feel European. Thank you for this segment!

It isn't a trend because it requires a person who doesn't CARE what's "on trend", they know what they like, the stuff they've accumulated, or "curated", makes them happy in their home. But "cottage" means different things; I'm in Maine, and our cottages bear no resemblance to an English country " cottage". I don't know of a lot of chintz and cottage-core stuff, either.

I was so excited about watching this video but it was a tiny bit misleading; I think Elegant Cottage Style is so lovely and is actually how I decorate, but you did not show any coordinating photos with real life homes incorporating it. I live in a small brick suburban "Cottage", story & a 1/2, 8 foot ceilings and completely separate rooms. I call my style modern rustic cottage with a twist of french influence lol! You, your home and your channel are a great source of inspiration but a 3 story open concept American laid out home is not a cottage

I like netrual decor with quality furniture with creams & textured fabrics. But I LOVE colorful original art purchased from the actual artist. Dull mass produced art is so lifeless to me. I love art that is not abstract and lets me remember beautiful places. Ikea furniture looks mostly very cheap to me. I love real hardwood floors with quality rugs. Timeless.

California coastal cottage.... thoughts to bring to new home?

I think traditional art works much better for cottage. Not modern.

I think you are confusing cottage core with shabby chic. Shabby chic had all the pinks and floral and overly distressed furniture. Cottage core has more earthy colors, thriftEd items and a mix of old and new furniture pieces.

I got the Velvet curtains in December that you recommended on Amazon, so do I keep the velvet curtains through Spring/Summer seasons? Do I buy linen curtains for cottage decor for the warmer seasons?

That's what I do. I use velvet in the Fall/winter and cotton or linen in the Spring Summer.

I love velvet pillows but not on furniture. It attracts every piece of lint, dust and pet hair. It’s a maintenance nightmare. Ok for accents

I checked the sateen beddong set you mentioned I really love that you can change the colors for each piece if you want that really is handy. I like white sheets and a colorful duvet and you can do this. I know what my Valentine wish list is now 😂❤

Unfortunately, the Brooklinen coverlet you show in use in your home has a lot of big stains on it. Pre-treating the stains and soaking in a warm detergent solution (I like adding BIZ, too, it’s great), will probably get them out. Perhaps they only really show strongly under the lights for filming? You can do better for your own home and your sponsor probably isn’t too pleased with you showing their product in such a condition.

I like the homes I don’t the chatting woman
