In this episode of Electronic Basics I will show you how to use N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs as switches in order to turn on and off your electronic load with a control signal. This way you can, for example, use your Arduino to control loads that require more current than the output of the Arduino can handle.

Thank you for demonstrating at 2:42 how sensitive MOSFETS with floating pins are, I always hear about using a pull-down resistor to fix them but never saw it inaction.
I just don't understand why you don't have at least a million subscribers. These are extremely high quality videos, short and to the point, with tons of information. Love your videos man

+Dargmuesli His videos are great to watch, especially to see what he makes. it doesn't matter if you don't understand completely, as long as you take an interest in what he's doing.
I had difficulty following this. I'll try rewatching and following along at home and see if that helps. thanks for your videos, even when I am confused, I enjoy learning there is more to things than a couple of steps.
These are extremely high information videos, Love your videos man.

wow such an effort to make those videos, I really appreciate the great quality and passion they were done with, thank you so much for making it way way more fun to all electronics students out there.
Thank you so much for this video! You boiled everything down so eloquently, and the modest, but precise visual aids drove everything home. This is gold for anyone learning MOSFET switching!
Love these vids, currently doing a project involving controlling different loads with the electricity sent through nerves, and this vid really helped me understand these "bundles of joy" (especially when it comes to the magical smoke)
You have a really good handwriting!

@3:48, P-Channel MOSFET, you say voltage on the gate (VGS) shuts off the MOSFET, but the scope shows the opposite behavior.
Love the electronics basics videos! Keep it up!

Thanks for the straight forward update. You are doing a very appreciated job here!
Looking at your style of drawing brings out how greatly organised and clear your mind is....the greatest inspiration for me to keep sticking to the video...
Thank you for this. Also, the additional resources you linked are much appreciated. This will help a lot.
I learn all the relevant information very quickly from you sir. It feels like you invented electronics! 😂
I needed this for a project! Thank you so much for explaining it so well!
Wow greatScott! Your videos are so amazing. You are so knowledgable! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Everytime +GreatScott uploads a video it just feel like Christmas :) the videos are just top notch 👍
I've been searching for half an hour if "n" os "p" type is needed to my project. Thank you for the answer! ;)
These electronics basics videos are awesome, I think this one was really nice especially the way he explains the datasheet !
Excellent Video / training session / reference material. Thanks a ton !!!
I'm ready for MOSFETs part 2... drivers! Excellent videos. I have a great time watching them.
I love the electronics basics videos and I have heard so much about this but never understood it, thanks great scott!
Thanks a lot for this, you are the only person who explained the circuit of a mosfet completely
wow, so many information into one simple videos, you are really do a great job man keep it up!
The right channel for electronics tutorial
This is exactly the information I needed. I wish I could like it twice
Thanks a lot, Brother. Great Work. This kind of work demands a lot of effort, My best wishes for your new projects.
frankly, i didn't understand much when i first saw this video, but after learning this concept in class and then coming back here helped me completely understand mosfets this learning process of practical after theory works best for me thank you for creating such video
Another great video from you!!! Thanks!!
Whoa. Somehow noone mentions the internal capacitance and the 70V spikes that it's causing! Thank you for the video!!
Thank You so much for the videos. Really love it...
Joel is right you should have a million subscribers. I was looking for easy way to control heating, and laser circuit with PSoC 4. your video helps me to solve the problem. thank you.
Really great keep on doing the good work
This video came exatly when i needed!
the best explanation till now!
Well, thank you sooo much. I like your style of explanation very much
Great vid, thanks for uploading :)
None of these videos make any sense to me but I can't stop watching them. You have a great skill.
great job from great scott
You’re probably The most useful electronics video Channel
love this channel
Awesome video.
As soon as I heard his voice and recognized who it was he got the "thumbs up" Excellent videos all the time from this man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video! keep doing this!
Sir its a very very informative video for a beginner like me,thank you hope for more videos in this series. 👍👍👍
this is the best electronics channel ever
Very nice explained
props as always great vid
You're awesome man, thank you!
I really like the way you create the Circuits with cut eagle-printouts and a Pen. Very nice to follw :)
Once again I learned something new. :-)
Scott, you're great.
Another great video!
Thank you very much to all of your teem
You have the smoothest voice ever. I wish i had money to have you read to me
I really enjoy your videos. I learned electronic principles years ago, but much of what I learned has regressed to where I only remember how isolated components work, but not necessarily how they affect circuits when combined with other components. I'd really enjoy hearing you walk through the theory of operation for a simple circuit explaining how the current flows and is affected by each segment through the circuit. Just in case you are ever looking for a topic your audience would enjoy... I'd vote for this :-) Keep up the great work!

Don't we all... If you want transistor tutorial stuff, I would watch a channel called Ben Eater. Yet he only explains transistors, logic gates, and complex logic circuits(his 8 bit PC), not other components.

Спасибо. Очень нужны такие видео!
So cool to understand
very nice tutorial...you have us rookies , knowing more and more
This is extremely clear.
Awesome tutorial! It helped me get my FETs right! You should probably do one about winding transformers.
thx man helped me a lot
what an introduction tune
great video
It's interesting, never thought so deep about MOSFETs
love you brother. great videos.☺☺☺☺☺
Thanks a lot for your good explained videos. I did not know that you got a peak when Arduino switch off. It is good information and I am impressed about your knowledge. Thanks a lot and have a great weekend. 🇧🇻👍
Excellent 👍
Hi I love your videos.
Hey dude,, I got much knowledge from your videos , much thankful for that ,, I stuck at chosing mosfets at high frequency , I want to use mosfets at 1 MHz ..!
I've designed MOSFET circuit thanks to this video. If it won't catch on fire I'll give a like :)
I didn't come here to get the remedial lecture. Noting your sense of humor, I subbed anyway.
Brilliant video mate! Keep the up the impeccable work! Links to the formulas used would also be appreciated (if possible). Thanks!!
this elaboration i wish u every succes for
It will help a lot 😊
Heilige Bismarck ! Sehr schoen ausgefuhrte lehrstueck !
Thank you for your helpful video ? I have a question about the efficient formular at 0:30, where do you take the value of voltage 5.15 and 6 V and the current 3.3A from?
You are the best!
I like the cut out pieces of paper, good idea. :D
very nice
The video is awesome and the time spent is a quality time. Is there a video describing the working of P-Channel MOSFET as a high side switch as well as low side switch?
2:23 "But before going too much into the 'teewee' " haha :D. Your accent is funny and your work is very good! Keep it up!! Great vid!
You are amazing enough that you (and others) have inspired me to do electrical engineering at Oregon State University. Thanks for being so damn awesome!
This playlist is going backwards. Loved this series!
Thanks!
thank you for the links. I'm trying to move beyond my 16 channel relay board (that clicks very loud) into using mosfets - just very wary because the supply is high amperage (10A/12v)
good video
hello, thanks a lot for a great job. in order to control a load between 1amp to 30amp, what do you suggest to use?
I'm learning 😁
Want a video on making an efficient inverter from GreatScott!
2:49 I found that 50K potentiometer can be good for splitting the voltage to adjust the Gate voltage, DS resistance, current etc.
wow this video taught me how to make touch sensor :D
Nice Video! I wanted to use an IRFz34N for a simple speed control circuit to my linear actuator (5-8 amps) controlled by my micro-controller. I ordered the parts and I have the pull down resister, but am I limited as to the switching frequency due to the issues you mention?
Scott, i am a hobbiest that love electronics, i used to love your inventions, your latest videos are too technical and complex, i hope you can change them to easier subjects, greetings from argentina
Lol that transistor was made in my country , great video btw
