    Because maybe someone's supposed to donate a more modern electron microscope to him (and he can donate his old one to me -- I'd use it to identify patients' pneumonia-causing bacteria without needing the slow lab-cultures). :D :/

    @@cantsolvesudokus Unfortunately not, the one Ben has now was taking up too much space in my apartment hence I had to get rid of it. At approximately the same time period Ben was building his DIY SEM so I asked him if he was interested.

    I have been in the carbon nanotube field for almost 20 years. Anyone who says they understand this technology is lying. The true breakthroughs will come from tinkerers and experimentalists playing around like this. Keep going.

    @@dimitar4y I have no idea, I just dream of a really terrible looking knitted jumper, probably beige, but it can stop tank rounds of something. All soldiers looking like middle aged northerners. With attack slippers, pipe grenade and highly trained death whippets.

    Carbon nanotube-coated kevlar armor has been on the market for years. The coating greatly improves the kevlar's structural integrity and shelf life, even making it waterproof. Bullets that are stopped by the kevlar weave tend to embed themselves in the material, but the coated armor can protect it enough for bullets to bounce or barely stick to the vest itself.

    Wow, that's honestly the most stunning electron microscope animation I've ever seen 🤯 Your technique of getting a continuous zoom with discrete input worked really well. Just as I was thinking "he ought to put some steppers on those knobs" you mentioned your plan to do just that 😄 Thanks for all your work feeding my curiosity!

    Love the video, love the way you use the SEM, reminds me of when we built the SEM in the garage by cutting the screen of the old oscilloscope (you get x-y control for free) and mounting it into the vacuum chamber to inspect flat panel display traces (if you energize them you can see them - sem can pick up 5V difference in float voltage). We got very wide field of view (>10cm) at high enough resolution. Post more!

    What is this? A carpet for ants? Oh... I guess it is I miss working with electron microscopes. Last time I used a similar device I got to move iron metals around. It was exciting for about 2 minutes and after that I started questioning my life choices.

    I have to say, any one of your videos would have me thinking the person behind it was very well versed in the subjects being discussed. But to see how many subjects you cover, and at the depth/degree you dive into them, it is really very humbling I must say. Most science video channels I don't feel intimidated at all, but this channel is a different story. You have to be one of the very brightest people on youtube. Again, namely because i don't think i have seen another channel that goes into the same depth on such a breadth of subjects. I don't know of another channel that comes close. Glad to see your subscriptions are growing, well deserved... thanks again for producing these, super interesting stuff...

    The WHO has a publicly available document that details how small organizations can manufacture their own hand sanitizer solution. They list two formulations. This would be a cool, easy, and topical subject for a video. Thanks for always making great content!

    Thanks so much for these videos , it's amazing how important these videos are. There is a complete lack of good information on the graphene manufacturing process and carbon fiber. Almost everything is glossed over, hard to find or inscrutable. Like just looking into carbon fiber means having to sift through the mountains of "DIY carbon-fiber" thats about bloody vinyl stickers. But here you *literally* show discrete parts of it, thanks.
