Just followed this Electrolux Door Boot Seal guide and have to say it's NOT easy to replace the inner seal spring! Took 3 people including myself to get the spring to go on, but once it's on it's definitely not coming off. So far so good. No more nasty old seal and the problem with the washer fully draining is also gone. I think if I ever have to replace this seal in the future i'll just opt to buy a new top load washer instead. These front load washing machines are a gimmick if you ask me. Anyway, thank you RepairClinic for the very helpful video!

Thanks for the video. Took 20 minutes. Didn’t take off top and front panels, just make SEAL WET, that helps put on seal in channel and spring over it.

One of the hardest repairs I've personally ever done, took me about 4 hours total, lessons learned: even with 4 clamps it was impossible to put the inner spring back on, required the clamps, mine and my wife's hands, and the use of dish soap for the seal where the spring fit in. I also had to deal with a stripped screw at the bottom front panel so that was fun. Everything else wasn't too bad, fitting the seal on the lip before the inner spring step was surprisingly kinda hard as well, had to use dish soap there too, the outer spring is cake with a washer spring expander tool I bought for 15 bucks. Conclusion: $100 bucks for the replacement seal and 4 hours of labor with 2 people, I'd say worth it, but barely...gotta really like and wanna keep your washer to justify it. I was close to giving up on the inner spring part. Those with experience or a handyman will do it quicker, I'm just a novice handyman myself, average when it comes to overall home repairs. I'm better at fixing dryers and I had no experience with Electrolux prior, only Maytag. TY for the video but needs to go more in depth on the inner seal to lip and inner spring. I had to watch another more detailed video to finally get it.

Very helpful video. My husband replaced the boot seal WITHOUT removing the front panel or the door. It took three of us to hold the spring to replace it over the new boot. We also found a clog in the hose coming from the detergent dispenser which seemed to be the cause of our leak. We found it helpful to use dish soap to lubricate the new boot seal to get it on the rim. Thanks for everyone's helpful comments.

I would add an extra step - at around the 3:45 mark, add rotate the drum manually by hand to make sure it doesn't rub. Ran into the issue (even though everything appeared fine) and didn't check earlier so had to go through the entire process again, which was painful the first time. Rotating the drum after each subsequent step made sure that nothing was done to cause the seal to rub against the drum helps reduce the number of steps you might need to backtrack should something be slightly off. Other than that, great video, very helpful - thank you.

Just completed repair by myself. Took a total of 3 1/2 hours. I almost gave up when trying to install the springs. The key for me was lubricating the springs and the rubber track where the spring fits. With only one pair of hands I found it necessary to use 2 C clamps to hold the springs in place so I could stretch them into the track. Video was very helpful to show all of steps.

Nah, don't bother! Buy a new machine cause if you manage to get the springs back on without testing the seal, something else designed to fail will do just that. Not worth the hassle!

Just finished mine. All comments here are valid. Biggest challenge for me was getting the seal to sit on the outer ring...fingers sore from pushing the seal over the lip! Then used two clamps for the inner spring plus stretching the spring as you start installing it will help build up some extra length as you get to the end of slipping it over. An extra pair of hands would be recommended for this step. Quality of seal was perfect and the repairclinic video was great. Repairclinic rocks!

thanks for the help. Just finished, did the job alone in 3 hours. used 2 strong spring clamp for the inner spring and slid them forward about 4-6 inches as the spring became seated. Hardest part for me was seating the inner seal and its a good idea to use a little soap to help it seat. Thanks again. well done!

Just used this video to guide me successfully through the boot seal replacement! The only tools that I didn't have (and discovered that I needed after an unsuccessful attempt) were the two spring clamps for the inner spring re-installation, but after a quick stop at the hardware store I was able to complete the job on my own. As others have commented, placing the back and front lips of the new boot over the outer drum rim and front panel (respectively) is a rather difficult and physical task for the hands of a desk jockey like myself, compared to the simple appearance in the video. Thank you!

Just completed this repair today took about 2 hours total, removed the front door assembly, removed the old boot installed the new seal and used 4 large clamps to assist with the large spring was able to compete this by myself with just moving the clamps around and putting the spring into the slot. The clamps helped out a lot. Don't get frustrated just keep calm and it can be completed easily

Just did this without taking the top or front off in 90 minutes with no lubricants. Removing the old seal took 5-10 minutes the rest was reinstalling. 2 Quick clamps, F style or C clamps are needed to reinstall the inner retaining spring and I installed the rigid part of the spring at the top and installed the 2 clamps at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions and worked the spring clockwise (an automotive brake spoon will help here, using 2 is even better.). Outer retaining ring can be stretched at the spring/ring connection with a pair of needle nose pliers in the ring loops , but snap ring pliers will work even better if you have a pair that is reversible and will open wide enough for the ring to fit over the gasket.

Thank you VERY VERY much for this video. I was very upset that i might have to hire a tech to perform this repair, until i found your video. It was the 1st video that came up during my searches. I considered myself lucky. I was very happy to find a review that had my Exact problem and my Exact washing machine. Our had toen in a matter of a little over 5 years, and we are family of 5. These instructions were Very thorough, and very easy to follow. Thank you for also providing the part number information, not to mention the actual OEM part number, unlike some places. I do have to say, that your store, has this item listed at almost the highest price, based on an internet search for the oem part number, so you might want to compare your prices to other places... Some notes for those who decide to tackle them themselves, like we did. I do consider myself a little more "handy" than most of the people that i know, and i do tend to perform a lot of my own maintenance and repairs on most household things. But this was pretty easy over all. It took us less than 45 minutes, including grabbing tools, and clean up. Suggestions and notes: This is easiest with 2 people when installing the inner and out tension ring and spring. It was easy with 2 people, but i imagine that with only one person, that this could be difficult, and possibly more dangerous. The part that we struggled with the most, was getting the boot installed. The lips on the boot that the machine wall attaches to, inside and out, were very difficult to install, in the right place, and getting to stay. We spent more time getting the lips on the boot to slide into place. Again, thank you very much for providing this video. I will be sure to check back for any of our future repair needs.

I replace the bearings in my washer which included the whole back half of the tube shell. To do this requires removing the door boot. I found it helpful to remove the weight ring off of the front shell to replace my old boot. A new boot may be more pliable but the old one was impossible to put back on until I removed the weights.

Excellent video. I agree that the inner seal spring is a bear to get on. I used 2 clamps secured around 10 and 2. I had to use both hands and a foot to get it on. It's a challenge. seating the seal of the boot also takes some skill/patience. The inner seal is more difficult.

Did this job today on the same model washer in this video. Easy job, just follow the instructions. However, that inner spring is a SOB to install but I did it by myself just like in the video with a LOT of spring stretching. Also, you need to only use the 2" metal spring clamps (I used four) as the plastic spring clamps don't have enough tension to hold the seal in place when pulling on the spring. The spring clamp I used was from Habor Freight, Pittsburg 2" Spring Clamp 39529

I’m sure I’ll get heckled for this, but it may help someone if they are in my situation: I have my dryer stacked on top of my washer in a very small confined space. Unstacking and pulling the machine out would have taken two people and a lot of effort. I decided to try and take the boot seal out without removing the top and front panels. My issue was the inner spring. I did not have the right sized clamps to get the inner spring to go around the inner seal. I spent a solid half hour trying to get the spring to work. I could not make the spring go all the way around. Here’s what worked. I decided to create a chain of large zip ties in place of the inner spring, ditching the inner spring completely. I pulled the last zip tie extremely tight and was sure not to cut the zip tie ends. I did not want to have sharp edges cut the seal. I’m sure techs would cringe at this idea, however… it worked flawlessly. Obviously if I had other options I would have taken them, but this worked well for me. It also cuts the repair time down significantly and removes the main safety risk created by the spring. I hope this helps anyone that is in a similar situation.

Wow, lots of sweating swearing, resting, because it is so hot. I got it done. Not only i got the door jammed because i didnt have the outer gasket on properly, i had to learn how the door mech worked. Ended having to have put a flat in behind the panel and push the latch. Big tip. Have strong spring clamps and really stretch the retaining spring to start off first, that way the end of applying the spring is easy. Manipulating a brand new gasket is hard work. Probably best left in the sun for a little while so it losens up. 5hrs , still saved dollars, but nearly busted my back in awkwards positions. Best use a high bench when working on this machine . The model varied slighty and the front panel was too difficult to take off the entire way, so i worked with the panel half off.

Like many others, thank you for the video. Very helpful, but the video could have been better. My first post-repair load of wash is running right now, and so far, so good! However, at about @3:23, it would have been nice if the directions were a little more explicit / specific about how to put the inner part of the boot seal into the washer. Wasted a ton of time and energy trying to get it in the wrong way. Once I figured out the right way, I found it difficult to get it on correctly. The guy in the video makes it look like there's nothing to it and it's done in 3 seconds, but in all honestly, it took me over an hour. The inner spring was also challenging, but I used 4 clamps to get it done. Started at the top with one clamp so both hands could be free, one to stretch the spring, and one to guide it into place. Then, about 1/4 of the way down, I'd clamp it again to hold it in place, then I'd work on the other side, 1/4 of the way down, then clamp. From there, I'd get a little more in place, then either add a new clamp or move an existing clamp, to keep "saving" my progress and give my fingers a break. Finally got it. Loved how the video shows a set of pliers being used to help with the outer retainer ring, but the narration makes absolutely NO mention of pliers whatsoever, nor are they (or the clamps!) mentioned in the list of tools needed for the job. Had to figure that out on my own.

Took me a few hours. Getting inner boot seal on rim took longer than stretching the spring around. A few things I ran into... 1.) The boot has a tab that points inside at about 10. I kept trying to tuck that tab and the whole boot into/behind the actual wash drum. Don't do that - it should sit flush and the tab will simply point in towards middle of drum. That is why you will see so much water and gack on the old boot, b/c is is a poor design. Wasted much time here. 2.) I think a little dish soap on the rim you tuck into the inner boot seal helped. You shouldn't have to force it that much. Wasted my finger strength here. 3.) Re the spring on inner seal - first I tried a clamp (kept flicking off) and then I tried helpers (couldn't get it on). Then I backed up the clamp with a second clamp. That held it and I was able to do it solo.
