Note, the volume knob becomes a blend knob when in switched in 'DRY' mode on the bass big muff pi, and the nano sized bass big muff, so technically they do have that same blend feature as on the deluxe bass big muff .

Not entirely correct. I have this pedal - on dry mode the volume knob doesnt turn to blend but affects the dry signal only. At my favorite setting (60% to wet) its way too (!!!) loud. Ive read some guys mod it with added master volume. I reduce the master valume with compressor (which ruins the big muff tone in my opinion) or give up on dry mode. Bottom line, I would recommand the deluxe version.

@@romankovshov2065 lol, I have it too... You mean the knob effects the wet signal only in dry mode... The dry signal stays there at a constant set unity volume and the knob adds the wet sound in parallel, so I guess more of a 'wet mix' knob. However its still 'blending' 2 signals in a mix in parrallel, so its still a mix blend control non the less. The 2 parrallel signals can also be split to different output sources with the dry output jack... Wouldn't have commented if I haven't actually used one, haha. A balance control pot (which is what you're taking as a true blend function) would be 100% dry with no wet signal all the way to the left side, and 100% wet with no dry signal all the way to the right. Either type of control is still blending 2 parrallel signals regardless. I never found it too loud at all, but it would depend on how much gain is on the amp its going into. You must be running your amp with a fair bit of clean headroom.

@@mattwall1090 dry outout jack? dont have this. Ive probably forgot to mention that I use the nano version. Mmm think about it: if dry signal passes at unity gain - any addition of wet signal would increase the volume (I like the dry volume on 2 oclock). Ive faced this with couple of different amps settings. You might be right about the headroom.

I have the DBBMP, and yes, it is two pedals in one, the crossover makes for some more traditional high-gain overdrive/distortion sounds where your treble is distorting but the bass remains relatively clean, then switch out the crossover and go full on fuzz. Absolutely love it, my favorite gain effect on bass.

Very good review, thanks. I think the biggest plus that the deluxe has is the blend knob. If you want to have a pretty much natural sound with a tad of spice added on top (just to cut through the mix better), then you can only go with something that has a blend knob. The others just smother the sound too harshly.

you can mix the wet/dry ratio in the smaller ones also, because when you use the DRY function, your clean tone passes trough at the same level that came in, and the volume knob affects only the wet. So, if you turn down the volume your dry signal is more noticeable.

Thanks for posting your video. Very professionally done. To me the core sound of all the muffs for bass were identical but the Green Russian had a different voicing. I actually preferred the Green Russian in your demo even though the pick attach was not as present. To me, it's part of the "Muff" sound and part of the overall style of that type of effect. Great beautiful clean bass sound and definitely sounds great blended with the fuzz... I just preferred the overall sound of the Green Russian

The Nano Bass is definitely more suited for bass vs the Green Russian, but if I want a fuzz that keeps my pick attack intact (ha) I have my TAFM for that. The Green Russian is for when I want a Muff to sound like a Muff! That said, if I could only have one fuzz pedal I'd own a Sovtek Deluxe Big Muff Pi, but that's far too big to justify putting it on my board.

I love the thicker sound of the Russian, but IMO you didn't have it set at it's best setting. The reason it was muddy is because you had the sustain up all the way. It seems like it has more gain and or more low end so the controls are touchier.

Got three of them, just bought the deluxe but guitar version (not received yet), my favorite is the nano, the bass big muff is really close but the nano has a more opened sound, a little bit more defined, but the two are close. The green russian is too dark and muddy, on guitar the nano is also the best ! Surprising, but for me better than the green muff. For the deluxe, seems to be difficult to have a opinion 'cos it has so many ways to be used that it could perhaps have the same sounds as all the others ! (+ expression pedal and noise gate).

I have the green russian sent in a blend pedal and it kills the bass big muff. Adding the dry signal and adjust at taste with the blend knob get off the mushy and get back the attack and definition. The gain and low end is monstrious on the russian😎. I don't like the way the dry switch push back the fuzz with both bass big muff. In band situation you lost the fuzz, but still cut through the mix with the dry signal. The deluxe version is the best choice sonnically due to the extra features and blend knob to adjust at taste, but more expensive and not pedalboard friendly.

I used to have a bass big muff and it's a great pedal. I currently have a deluxe bass big muff and it just never gets a good sound for me. I have to overdrive going in to have it even half sounding like what I want, and using any sustain gives it this weird wha-esque bwark kinda sound - though I am playing in A, so everything is 7 steps lower than it would typically have to deal with on a 4-string.
