Electro-Harmonix Bass Soul Food

Buy Now: goo.gl/8QNvAQ
The Electro-Harmonix Bass Soul Food brings the full, organic boost and overdrive tones of the wildly successful EHX Soul Food to the bass player's pedalboard. It offers bassists a wide range of dirty sounds that also maintain the integrity of the original signal, including the full spectrum of low-end frequencies. The Bass Soul Food accomplishes this with several helpful control parameters designed specifically for bass. These include a -10dB pad switch, which ensures plenty of headroom for high output active pickups, and a clean blend knob that allows the player to achieve an ideal mix of driven and clean sounds. Further tonal blending is available with the Treble knob, which only affects the overdriven signal, adding the perfect touch of brightness or warmth. The Electro-Harmonix Bass Soul Food is made in New York City, USA, features switchable buffered or true bypass switching, and operates on industry standard 9-Volt DC power or battery.

The best guitarist-playing bass- review/demo I've ever seen! An actual demo playing actual bass lines, not guitar riffs on bass!!
Love the fact that he uses a pick for bass and no pick for guitar, great playing.

if more bands today had bass players like Andy---- what a wonderful world this would be!!
Why does every bass pedal demo have to show how "it works great on guitar, too!" Guitarists have thousands of pedals to choose from. We can handle having something just for bass players

Because EHX bass pedals sound better on guitar than guitar pedals do, and if you're going to get an EHX pedal for your guitar you might as well get the bass pedal.

Still, guitarists have so many pedals to choose from. Us bassists use guitar pedals sometimes because we don’t have enough bass specifics to choose from.

Well for me, I play bass and guitar. But I prefer the low end of bass gear for guitar too. I play on a bass amp for my guitar too.
that thumb + index picking was awesome!
Nice ibanez 924, My dad has one exactly like this and I grew up listening to it. Sweet memories!
Pedal sounds really great! Definitely will add this to my "wish list" along with OCD, Darkglass, and some others.
I'm going to keep it to the point. I really freaking want this pedal. Holy crap.
Awesome demo and playing!!!
The bass sounded great. Thanks.
Thank you for shared. Very beautiful video and lovely music
By golly I think that`s what I need! Thx from 2021!
everytime when i'm curious about any pedal i prefer to see the review of him in this channel!

I usually don't use pedals when I'm playing bass, but that pedal changed my mind. Now to shake down the sofa for spare change...
YOUR KISS COVER WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I freakin love this pedal. I can get a geddy lee dirty-esque tone out of this and some nice bass overdrive tones similiar to the band Mew. I can even get a very similar "Knights of Cydonia" tone out of it too. I got a fender jaguar bass and a Ampeg Micro VR Amp.

I just have to +1 Mew! They don't get enough recognition but so so good!!!
Very interesting sounding pedal, a bass take on the EHX Soul Food (a.k.a. the Klon Centaur circuit). I prefer it with the bass though.
wow..this is mad nice
Interesting that this pedal can be used well for guitar as well. I have a bass Tube Screamer, and it really doesn't distort the guitar signal very well; it mainly just acts as a sort of bass boost. BUT, when I use it on bass: super distorted.
Such a better demo than EHX

very cool vintage bass .
yeaaaah DRAWING FLIES!
Is the drive section of the Bass Soul Food the same as the Soul Food, or is it modified to better fit a bass? Can I get the same amount of clean/drive with both pedals on a standard guitar? Are the -10db switch and the blend control the only differences between the pedals?
Do you record these to a click? Your timing is impeccable.
Detroit Rock City and Drawing Flies! Nice
Best sounding overdrive Bass pedal I’ve ever heard, anything out that beats this one ?
There's 3 demo guys I actually just close my eyes to and listen to and that's Andy, Mike & the guy from PrymaxeVintage.
Andy that Ibanez sounds Brutal
Holy shit, Badge followed by Drawing Flies?! I'm impressed.
Soundgarden “Drawing Flies” ! 3:00 Nice.
ha cool! I have the exact same bass in my collection. a1983 ibanez musician, mc 924, though, mine is an original fretless!
Thumbs up for the Ibanez Musician Bass!!!!
Cool pedal, I was hoping he would break out some Bootsy Collins funk, star shaped sunglasses and everything :) Come on Andy!! :P
Takes me right back to 9th grade when Kiss was on the radio.
Andy, how about a 'Big Bottom' riff of the day lesson?
Detroit Rock City,Baby!!!!!
I've got one and whilst I love it, it does somewhat rob the bass of super-low frequencies.

You might want to check out the EBS Billy Sheehan. Please note I haven't bought one myself but you can find for $100 on Reverb. It *seems* to maintain lows well. I really like this pedal though.

@@22ddo Subs my comment this pedal has become a crucial part of my rig, with all knobs at 12 o'clock, including the mix/blend. It's not so much for distortion as some tone and a certain indefinable finger-feel...

Cool- Detroit Rock City Bass demo-- very cool
Reminds me a lot of queen's of the stone age bass tone aka a cranked ampeg rig
at 2.37 the pedal shows full drive, less than half blend and very little treble. However, the description says mellow drive,m strong clean boost. This seems contradictory. Which is correct??
AW YES. Badge by Cream.
i love you andy

Andy needs his own youtube channel. Come on people! Lets make it happen! lol
Question for all: i have one, in headphones i can hear a drive with the boost of signal, in band with amp i can hear just a boost of signal without drive, it s normal for this pedal?
I use this pedal on guitar vs the orig sf
Whoa there, Andy is actually using a pick in this video.
Andy, you can be my wingman any time! --I mean, bass player. You can be my bass player any time.
how much did that ibanez cost? its fcking beautiful
I've tried two different ones, they don't get nowhere near to this level of distortion.
Would you suggest this over Joyo British Sound?
What's the difference between bass soul food pedal and big muff?
Are those NEUTRIK connectors?
When will it be available?
How much does it go for?
I recently bought this pedal and immediately traded it in for another one because I was not getting response anywhere near found on the demos. I thought the first pedal was malfunctioning. Not the case. The second pedal has the same issue. I followed the settings in the demo precisely and did not get the heavier overdrive or growl. I even put my electric guitar on it and the most I could get was a slightly dirty boost. Anyone have any pointers?

it also sounds different through different amps. i'm sending mine to jhs pedals. they will mod the bass soul food for $45 but you have to ship it to them. the mod they do adds a bass switch and a clipping switch.
Pretty sure the bass is a vintage Ibanez Musician mc924. I

+MultiFenners the BBM is a full fledged fuzz pedal, much more distortion and sustain. compared to that, you'll likely experience a lot less buzz and sludge in exchange for a tighter and less extreme drive from this pedal
what model is that Ibanez?

+The Prince Of Persia Musician series, MC924, Japanese built in the early 80's. I have one, they are very fun. They made one with the pickups (P-J config) you see as well as one with 2x Super4 pickups (2 wide aperture single coils, very powerful), Mahogany/Walnut body with Mahogany/Maple through-neck (I think that's right, anyway) and active/passive electronics. Beast!
What's the name of his picking technique? Never seen this before. PS. Blend control is truly a good option.

EHX pedal of month club? So when my pedal sucks they can just send me the right one? I bought soul food 1.0 specifically to play DETROIT ROCK CITY on my bass in my bedroom without distorted guitar accompanying and was startled at my failure. Now I'm bummed.
hi everyone just one question I don't have a bass amp so I need to record the bass direct to the interface then between this BASS SOUL FOOD n' EHX METAPHORS n' which one gives you better results to record the bass direct to interface?? I'll appreciate someone reply me t-you bye =)

80's Made in Japan instruments (Fernandes, Ibanez..) were high quality instruments for the price. Mi 90's MiJ Fernandes bass is the best deal I ever got. I bought it brand new for 370€ (well I paid it in my country's currency back in the day) and it has been working almost perfect since then (the only issue it had was a bad soldering which caused that the neck pickup stopped working) . It stills sounds and plays like first day. Not bad for an almost 20 years bass.

As a bass player, I don't care what brand it is if it sounds good. Isn't that the most important thing?
It still amazes me that Gene Simmons sings over such complicated bass lines.
Sorry, had to tap out for some Drawing Flies!! Thanks.
Look at that frackin Ibanez.
You can tell Andy's a guitar player playing bass because he doesn't use his pinky. :-)
