Nice. As a 2nd year wireman apprentice this was really cool to see shorts and ground faults demonstrated. Thanks!

I was in an attic tearing out an hvac unit. And my helper said power was off. I believed him. And the way power was ran. It would have been easier to just cut the romex all together. I cut the wires. Loud pop. Sparks flying everywhere. Strippers melted. And somehow. Breaker never tripped. And wires were still live

@@DailyElectrician 16 Months, it's Public so government funded which means is basically free. School gives you 1800 hours towards apprenticeship and because there's a shortage of electricians here, they are making it 2700 Hours. Also they reduced the 8000 Hours to 6500. Not sure if it's just a Quebec thing or also Ontario I don't know.

Thanks. I really like this video. Especially the part that cuts just the live. But all the rest is really good. The other video of stripping the live is also fantastic. Well done in sharing these. Life saving- in my opinion.

This happens to me when I accidentally cut off the live and neutral together it explodes good thing i got my gloves on. Thanks to this video I wont be afraid to cut again coz im thinking of ever I will cut the live itself it will explode as it happens to me earlier. Now i will be confident to cut any of the wire with no problems. Thanks Mate 👍
Is it the same with Serrated wire??
Super educational. Also, pro tip: a non-metal grinder blade won't blow up. I accidentally cut a cable to a 240V mini split once and pooped my pants, but neither the breaker nor fuse in the mini split blew

I have a question, here the 3 wires are already cut. What if all 3 are still in a circuit like say series. And you want to cut the hot wire and you don't have an insulated cutter. You can't right.
@modernbassheads5051

You can cut and touch live wires without insulated tools just make sure your shoes are insulated or standing on rubber floor mat

I was installing an AC disconnect today and I blew up my knipex linemans. I turned off the breaker but whoever terminated the load center mislabeled the 2P breakers. There wasn’t a quick way to test the voltage on the wire since it was just a 3’ stub of 8ga SEU sticking out of the wall. I learned today that I’m just going to turn off all the 2 pole breakers because you can’t trust anyone.

Wouldn't it be cool if they made a wire cutter where the actual cutter is not conductive so that you can cut live wires without issues.

thanks this re assured me i dont need to turn the breaker off if you only snip one wire at a time, which will help me change this light out easier. for some reason this house 2 breaker panels, one in the attic and the other under the house in a crawl space and its a hassle

Can you cut a live service wire thats going to your house in order to change to 200 amp. Or should you call the company to turn off the power first
@DailyElectrician
Жыл бұрын
i would never do that, one wrong move and your dead. call the company.
Say you have a circuit, a normal wire, live, neutral and ground on a lamp, there would be power on the neutral wouldn’t there? Would there be an explosion if you cut just one of the individual wires? The lamp is on, would there be an explosion if you cut the neutral wire only?
@DailyElectrician

don't think so, but i can test it out!
Good video, I felt like you could have had the wires more centered under the camera, however don't take that as negative feedback. It was a very good video and you did great. Funny, in the beginning I thought you were basically saying that you were willingly going to electrocute yourself to death just by the verbiage to someone that's not an expert in this stuff. Anyway God bless you man, keep up the good work

This Happened to me, So had a Motor but it’s stuck in the box so I had to pull the Wires to pull the motor out but it Ended pretty badly because I Mistakenly forgot to turn off the Electric power from the motor and When I was pulling the wires of the motor it went BANG!💥 With lots of sparks and the Wires have Snapped, Luckily I wasn’t Hurt.
That tester you used we call in Finland "Dead mans pen" because you can't trust it 100%. I was thought to never use one if testing for the purpose of working on the tested object. Only use it for finding wires. Also if you cant find out which breaker some wires are coming from or you have a really long way to the panel you could do what you did to trigger the breaker😂 but I would not advice to doing so but like my last weeks job where the panel was behind a locked door and the owner not coming until 2 hours later I tripped the breaker by connecting hot and neutral. Just don't do this for above 16 amp circuits.

Why was the hot and neutral cut a larger arc?
@DailyElectrician
2 жыл бұрын
not familiar enough to know why myself
@dOoMnX
2 жыл бұрын
Because the GFCI is tripped at a much lower current and time. When you short the hot and neutral only the circuit breaker gets tripped, and that takes way more current and time.

Why do my stripper keep blowing up? I’ve blown up 2 in 2 weeks and to embarrassed to ask my journeyman. Both times I was only stripping the hot by itself and it blew. Most of the time I strip or cut hot wires it’s fine. Any ideas? TIA enjoy the content btw!

it's gotta be shorting out somewhere. maybe the edge of the stripper is touching the box or another exposed wire? maybe stop working hot, lol
