Electric Scooter Review: Skooza K1S First Ride

Electric scooter noob Matt Locke gives us a look and review of the Skooza K1S.
After a quick walk through, Matt takes the the Skooza through Austin to check out performance, comfort, and the ins & outs of riding around on those fat tires.
(Spoiler Alert) Batman’s motorcycle has nothing on this little cruiser. It gets up to about 28 mph and has no problem pulling hills from a dead stop.
Don’t forget you can get our hookup for free shipping (about $300!) if you buy this electric scooter using this link here: bit.ly/3c67D0N and when you use discount code ELECTRIFYEXPO.
Leave a comment below to tell us what you think of the Skooza - or our video!
What other electric scooters or e-bikes should we review next?

Hey there! I just stumbled upon a new project called the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike and it seems pretty impressive. It offers a range of up to 60 miles on a single charge, and what's really cool is that it can be charged indoors too! Plus, with its brushless 750W motor and puncture-resistant fat tires, it can handle any terrain. The Smart Saddle Detection+ feature sounds interesting too, keeping you motivated during both indoor and outdoor rides. It's great to see innovation in the e-bike industry, and I'm excited to give the Morph eBike a try. Keep up the awesome content! 😄

I chose the Mototec Fat Tire Scooter (very similar) and I must say, I had just as much fun as you did in this video when I first rode it (still do). Mine has 2000w, 18AH battery and is 60 volts. It has a lot of torque and gets up to 32 mph (according to the sellers) and has a 20 mile range. I love it. -This video was instrumental in me ordering one.

I think you did an excellent job on the video. Far better to watch than the same old sales pitches. For all the detractors complaining about price, go price a decent Mountain Bike, Recumbent Trike or a factory Electric Bike. I would think those oversize tires would wear out on city streets & I would be concerned about the gimmick features eventually needing service or replacement. Sometimes Keep It Simple For Stupid is the better option.

Cool, but it’s definitely missing turn signals, speedometer, and mirrors I visited my home country a couple of months ago and these were pretty much parked on every other corner, which from my stand point really makes me thing you guys are supporting a company that just bought these from a Chinese brand, slapped a different logo on it and are selling it for 3x the amount (and maybe a different speed controller to bypass the motors limiter)

  • @skooza

    @skooza

    4 жыл бұрын

So, to be clear, you're basically assuming: 1. Everyone wants turn signals and mirrors (it has a speedometer) 2. If something's "on every other corner," it has to be Chinese 3. If it doesn't sound Chinese, someone slapped a name on it 4. There's a 3:1 markup on "Chinese by another name" 5. A double redundancy system is used to limit speed in this device And possibly 6. That participating in commerce is, somewhat bad? Well 1. Not if you don't need them / can be added later 2. That's a sterotype, and may be quite accurate. (~95% of the consumables your purchase are Made in China?) 3. If all cows have 4 legs, and one has 3, is it not a cow? 4. On the low end 5. An unecessary complication in our view 6. Capitalism certainly isn't for everyone, mostly for those that like trading money for stuff 🤷 Here-Here's to conscientious consumption! 🍻* *Do not operate this vehicle after consuming alcoholic beverages

You guys know How development works right? This release, this ad, it’s all going to bring feedback to the manufacturer who will then tweak and change different things and release a new version that is much better and hopefully cheaper than this version. Everyone sounds so angry and annoyed, but why? You’re saying you’re never going to buy it, then cool. There are people that will buy it. If there’s things you don’t like try pointing them out constructively and then who knows maybe we’ll all have some badass, safe, efficient and cool looking e-scooters and this manufacturer become the next Tesla of scooters. We gotta start making our own products m8. I daily commute 2 miles on a $130 26" mountain bike. I do believe I overdo the weight limit but the only problem so far is the tire wear. It's not built to handle a guy my size on any kind of wild terrain but it runs on the road just as fast as I can pedal it. If we want better items, fun items like this, we need to make the market for it known. Big people dont buy little toys because they'll break. But I've seen plenty of big boys climbing out of little ford fiestas because its what they can afford. So let us take a moment to think about what we can build, rather than buy.

$4k will get you a lot of bike if you go used.. my rebel250 was 1400 is a totally suitable daily driver for my needs.. will do 65 pretty comfortably and 80 if I wanna push it. I spend less than $5/week on gas and the thing is super easy to maintain. E scooters just aren't for me at this point, especially when I can find a nice goldwing for 2500. I'm clearly not the target market though.. not everyone wants to deal with getting the motorcycle license. Or even has a license for that matter.. or they might drive an SUV that gets 12mpg. A lot of people also take scooters and e vehicles to be safer than a motorcycle. They're horribly wrong but I've seen that misconception pretty often. These people will think nothing of zipping around the city on a 30mph ebike or scooter, often helmetless but tell me that they won't ride a motorcycle because they're dangerous. Yes, I've had this conversation several times with ebike owners in Denver.. the relatively small size of my rebel seems to invite a lot of conversation, it's just a very approchable Motorcycle. It also feels infinately safer than the 50cc mopeds and scooters I owned for 15+ years though. 30mph just isn't fast enough to ride in anywhere but dense city traffic or residential areas. I feel safety ultimately comes down to riding style. My #1 rule to to never assume that I'm seen, IE, Never rely on someone else's reaction time. It's worked well for me so far

I like the concept, but that price! Seriously? I can get a handful of real used motorcycles for that. Not to mention, a brand new Honda Supercub, which is a tried and true gas equivalent. They only cost a couple hundred dollars more new! The Honda can easily hit 55 mph and go waaaay more than 30 miles. So, the Honda isn't a cool electric. I value riding more than being able to say "that's my electric scooter charging over there." If they ever come down to the $1k range, then maybe.

  • @djdickey

They will never be that cheap and if they are you probably don't want it. The battery costs that much. I've had a different model for two whole years and all I've ever done is charge it at no cost to me at work, wash it, and keep the tires inflated. You've got a hundred different moving parts on and ICE cycle and unless you upgrade to CVT you've got a bunch of maintenance.

I can see these at a tourist locations as rentals. They are expensive for what you get. Why did Scooza choose a wide flat tread tire over a wide hoop style tire? Low speed handling has to be compromised. If it’s on the street, make it at least as street legal as a moped, or the Cheap imported POS scooters from China. That means, turn signals, front/rear braking, DOT head light and Brake/tail light and by all means, some sort of suspension. At a price point of Mid $3K, you should get more than a fat tire electric mini bike. I am in my early 70’s and the Scooza absolutely doesn’t appeal to me. I do have a scooter though, a Suzuki Burgman 650..... now that’s a scooter!! Bottom line is, if you are going to manufacture an electric scooter, you might want to ad some bells and whistles. You can start by adding at least a horn.

I owned two Suzuki Burgman Scooters. The 400 and 650 Executive. They are in a far higher league than this little electric skateboard. I'm also 64 and built my ebike. What I find kinda dangerous is the fact none of these have turn signals or other simple safety items. Yes, to keep them legal with no license, they have to keep them under 28 mph. That said, I have a blast with my converted Schwinn bike to an ebike. I did it for around $600. This thing for $3,500?? I'll just ride my Yamaha FJR in that case.
