Electric Locos Italy

5 Minutes. This short video was recorded as much for the sounds as for the vision. You may be surprised how good these sound.

That was the golden age of Italian railways, after the XIX century. Thanks for the video.

The black spot was tunnel running, shortened until the motors could be heard. This video is presented for the sounds as much as the vision. It was made 32 years ago well before KZread could ever have been imagined, so just made for me. So unless I could read a station sign, I have no idea where it was taken or anything else about it. This video is an experiment. If people are not interested in some fascinating equipment overseas, I won't bother doing any more.

Definitely interested - this is awesome, used to love the E636s/E424s/E645s and had actually forgotten that sound - until now, brings it all back!

The motors on these incredible electrics have a distinctive ring to them, very similar to the Pre-war MetroVic and English Electric 339, 507 and 546 type traction motors in the UK. Very noisy but by goodness could they produce such horsepower. A great sound set and thank you so much for sharing.

I especially likened them to the sounds of the original Sydney single deck electric trains with just 2 motors of 360HP per power car. You may like some of the sounds here. "Sounds Only" videos kzread.info/head/PLLtOIHp49XNAz2Tc2I0PZZzsUYriF7zaX

Yes! That’s why I made the recording. I thought these locos sounded a lot like Sydney’s single deck electric trains. You obviously appreciate traction sounds so maybe you will like this preview of a video to be published next month. Yes, they certainly do and that’s exactly why I made this recording. If you appreciate the sounds of electric Trains as much as I do, you may find quite some similarities with the sounds made by the single deck electric Trains in Sydney, unfortunately now retired. Im not quite sure what you mean here but if it is the sounds that you like (I do too) you may enjoy this sounds-only video of Sydney electric trains which sound similar to your locos, but of course start off faster. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZniBxLiAd7HLfbw.html

Its nice to see electrics in other countries. Most of the Italian Railway is electrified with 3000 volts DC. Many think DC systems like this are ancient and outdated, but they perform equally as well just like AC systems. Thanks for posting this video and I hope you continue to post more, despite what some say. :)

Thanks Caesar. I have a vast quantity of overseas electrics but nearly all is trams. I will concentrate on vehicles no longer in use, but the sounds with video of Milano Peter Witt trams is high on the list of video worth posting.

It was the sounds of these locomotives that attracted me to them. They had some similarities to the Sydney single deck electric trains. You may find something of interest in this playlist which includes some videos which are only sound stereo recordings of those trains. This desperately needs some editing - eg to remove the black screen at the 3.00 mark - and then the addition of some oral commentary or more captions to explain what we're looking at.
