If there ever was a song that can make a person cry, this is the one. It’s a common theme that we’ve all experienced.
This song made me cry when I was in high school hoping for a girlfriend. It now makes me cry, 46 years later, when I reminisce about my 29-year marriage that ended in an unwanted divorce. If I live to be 92, there will probably be a new reason to cry when I hear this. And I'm okay with that.
@johngiblin9867

I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m still searching for a girlfriend and I’ve got my heart set on a girl I’ve known for four years since we started freshman year, and then there was COVID, and I also had to go to a college prep school. I still try to connect with her, but we’re just so busy. I repeat, I’ve known her for 4 years, but it’s difficult for me to move on.

I unexpectedly lost my father less than a week ago. This was one of his favorite bands, and one of his favorite songs. I hadn't seen him in years but we connected for the last couple years via telephone. My phone was disconnected for lack of paying my bill, and that happened to be the last day of his life, where he sent me some text messages that I didn't receive until the next day, when he had already passed. I could never reply. Love you dad.

Can't really be "game-changers" when your entire sound is based on The Beatles' late '60s period. Jeff Lynne literally said that ELO's objective was to pick up where The Beatles left off. Plenty of music journalists have written about the homage they pay to the Fab Four. Hell, Wikipedia even has an entire page dedicated to how much ELO was influenced by them ("Jeff Lynne and The Beatles"). But yeah, ELO was great.

A few years ago Maroon 5 did song where the phone, a pay phone was central to the lyric. But where can you find a pay phone any more? But this song does take you back to when the phone was the primary means of communication (we also wrote letters, they just took a while, unlike the instant transmission of email). My son is Gen Y and I raised him with this music. I hope he remembers for me when the time comes...
in 2024 no one remembers telephone operators (dial 0,) rotary phones, dial tones, those long curly cords, putting coins in the payphone (a dime, maybe a quarter.) There were so many songs on the radio (AM) about telephones and operators. This song is still great in 2024!
Lyrics: Hello, how are you? Have you been alright Through all those lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely nights? That's what I'd say, I'd tell you everything If you'd pick up that telephone Yeah, yeah, yeah Hey, how're you feelin'? Are you still the same? Don't you realise the things we did, we did, were all for real? Not a dream I just can't believe they've all faded out of view Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Ooh-ooh-ooh I look into the sky (The love you need ain't gonna see you through) And I wonder why (The little things you planned ain't coming true) Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Okay, so no one's answering Well, can't you just let it ring a little longer, longer, longer? Oh, I'll just sit tight In shadows of the night Let it ring forevermore, oh-whoa Yeah, yeah, yeah I look into the sky (The love you need ain't gonna see you through) And I wonder why (The little things you planned ain't coming true) Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time I'm living in twilight

Fraudulent. Bands like ELO, Moody Blues, and Paul Revere and the Raiders have always been overlooked by the stooges at the RnR HoF. Fraudulent
Its *very* rare for me to love a song on first listen, it almost always takes a few listens for it to grow on me. This song broke through that barrier just now. What a great song. I listened to Out Of The Blue a week and a half ago and adored nearly every song. This record isn't disappointing at all, a new world record indeed.
Fantastic song. Takes me back to being a lorry driver in 80s 90s looking for a phone box when parking up on a night to call home. Magical music 💫✨💕

LISTEN "Hello, how are you? Have you been alright through all those lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely nights?" That's what I'd say, I'd tell you ev'rything if you pick up that telephone, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, How you feelin'? Are you still the same, don't you realize the things we did, we did were all for real, not a dream. I just can't believe they've all faded out of view, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, oo. Doo da wop, doo bee doo da wop, do wah doo lang. Blue days, black nights, doo wah doo lang. I look into the sky, The love you need ain't gonna see you through, And I wonder why the little things you planned ain't comin' true. Oh, oh, telephone line, Give me some time, I'm living in twilight. Oh, oh, telephone line, Give me some time, I'm living in twilight. O. K. so no one's answering, Well, can't you just let it ring a little longer, longer, longer oh, I'll just sit tight, Through shadows of the night let it ring forever more, oh, hoh hoh hoh. My dog who I've had since I was 5 years old just passed away today. She'll never be able to see my graduation or anything that comes after, but in life she was suffering from a terminal illness which rendered her unable to do pretty much anything. I have no idea how long my grief is going to last, and how much longer I'll be bawling my eyes out because of her, but this song has helped me out a lot. Seeing her pass onto the other side has left me lonely, and I wish I had a telephone line to communicate to her with. There's clearly been a lot of heart and emotion poured into this song's lyrics and composition, and it's really nice to have something to resonate with.

The best music/movie timing is when this song comes on in the background of Billy Madison.
"Blue days, black nights" - he sums up chronic depression in those four words.

Actually, many groups used orchestras in the 1970s. Just a couple of others, BREAD, Chicago, etc. Music historians have stated this was the the apex of popular music as far as creativity and musicality. Since then it has been in a steady decline. The music the youth listens to now is pure trash.
