I found my dad's old B&D drill, same model. He passed away in 1979 so it has been at least 43 years since it was last used. I've never restored anything in my life, but here I go. Wish me luck!

Well done. I remember using such a drill and making a mess with drilling holes in a masonry wall ... then came Impact Drill, that just went through like a knife in the butter ...now there are cordless drills with multiple battery packs ... key-less chucks ...you can tell my age: 80

Time lapse on the soaking was pretty cool!

Loved it! Guess I'm officially middle-age now!

Thank you for this video! I just recently found this exact same drill in the trash (bulk trash pickup), just with a black handle. It was missing the two screws at the bottom of the handle (not shown in your video) and there's one tooth broken off the gear ring on the chuck (inconvenient, but not that big a deal). When I found it, the cord was hanging out the bottom as they tried to tape the handle together. It works fine and I got replacements for the two screws, but it needs a good cleaning. I was a little nervous about taking it apart, so I was hoping to find a video exactly like yours. :)

I found this same drill in the trash at the park. It worked until I took it apart to clean it. I couldnt figure out where the spring and the 2 metal round bits went when they fell out. Thanks to your video I can see where they go. I love the blue color. What's in the white powder? Borax?

I'm restoring a similar drill, but unfortunately the cables from the motor are both black and I don't know in which side of the button I need to connect it, if by mistake I swap the red cable with the black what will happen? I reckon should just spin backward am I right?

I wonder if he could do that finger snap thing on a couple projects I'm working on?

What kind of primer do you use? I’ve been using Rustoleum self etching primer on all my tool restorations, but should I be using the Rustoleum bare metal primer or their professional primer?

I have a box of these and two now working. two in the box run but need switches and brushes. I plan to eventually visit a DeWALT service center, or call more likely LOL. Is there a model series? Most of mine don't show much. My best is a VSR 3/8 inch, but the chuck is just worn enough, it will not hold tiny drills 😞 I will look for second hand ones for parts, but it would be nice if I could just get the parts. These drills were built when B&D was not a low end brand name.

This is a USA spec Stanley Bridges Power Drill by Black and Decker. Unlike the plasticated crap tools Black and Decker push out today that last only a few years, and the UK spec of this power drill which was additionally poor, the USA spec was made to last a lifetime with very high quality. Well worth restoring.

What were the differences with the U.K spec ones? I've just inherited a drill that looks exactly the same as this internally (I've just cleaned and regreased it) but with gold paint in the U.K.. Granted the model number is missing on the metal badge on my one, so it could be a different (Premium?/Pro?) U.K model but it's the same drill as this.

Thank You. The switch isn't new. I pulled it apart and cleaned it really well. I had a hard time putting it back together. It also cracked on me if I remember right. I super glued it and it looked like new.

I just got what seems to be almost the exact same drill 4 buck goodwill find lol Is the switch replacement similar to some of the other old drill restoration videos? I was happy to find this for reference this being my first drill restore.

I used the existing switch. I didn't replace it.

Thanks for the video! I just bought one of those and the chuck wobbles. I wonder if it needs the axle and/or the bearing replaced and I do not know the model number. Where would you look for parts? Thanks again!

Nice work. At 7:40 what are you soaking the parts in? Is it water and baking soda? And what was the purpose of it? To just clean them?

That is a product called Fryer Brite LF5. I look it up but I can't find it on line. Anyway, it is a strong detergent for cleaning deep fryers in restaurants. It's a great general purpose cleaner and de-greaser. I use it to clean off most of the grime and grease build up. you can see that it doesn't get it all but it gets a good portion of it. I use it in most of my videos.

Nice refurbishing project. It looks a little plain jane. Maybe you could put a decal on it stating you refurbished it and some general data like the voltage and such. Just an idea. But nice job either way.

Thanks for the good words. I agree with you. I'm not good at designing so I didn't want to mess it up by making it look "Pretty". I thought about trying to stencil "Black and Decker" on it, too. After a while I decided to just leave it be.

I always think its really strange nobody ever talks during these restoration videos

When I first started watching restoration videos I wondered about it myself. On other channels I would read the comments to see what people were talking about because I was gaining an interest in making videos myself. Some comments stated they didn't want to hear music and some would say all they wanted to hear was the sound of the tools. I also noticed, and I may be wrong, that the more popular videos were 'silent' videos or non-talkies. So, I decided I would just follow the working format and leave it at that. I guess talking would just add another level of difficulty to the video making process. The restorations are pretty easy. It's the video making part that I find hard. Thank you for watching my videos. I hope you enjoyed them.

Two Hands Restorations I think the point is, what can you add with commentary? If you film it properly we can see for ourselves what you are doing and why. Also, you wouldn't be able to talk fast enough: at 30 fps and a picture being worth 1,000 words, that's 30,000 words a second!

I didn't realize I was doing it until a friend pointed it out. My hearing isn't so good so I don't hear it when I'm editing. I'm going to be more conscious of this when I film and edit. Don't feel shame. All comments are welcome and appreciated.
