20 years ago it was looking slightly dated but nowadays we think nothing of setting a movie in the 80s and with the remaster it is now certainly timeless.

So cool to get such an inside look at what it takes to make a movie and its expectations by the studios... I remember watching the movie as a kid and thinking... "Why isn't this movie a bigger success?" I absolutely loved it, being the little shy and computer geek that I was (and still am), maybe I was biased :) Anyway, thank you for sharing...

I have always loved this film since i was a kid in the 80s. I was only 11 years old at the time and I wish i had gone to see it at the cinema. Electric Dreams is an absolute classic but seems to be so obscure why wasn't it a bigger success at the time it should of been as far as i'm concerned. Another thing is Electric Dreams never get's shown on tv here in the UK in fact i can't ever remember a time when it was shown. The film could easily be remade today but i doubt it would never be as good as the original. Steve Barron seems like a really nice guy. I remember years ago i'm sure he was one of the VJs on MTV if i'm right. Can anybody here clarify this please?

Steve directed a bunch of music videos for MTV in the 80s and 90s. He was not listed as a VJ for MTV UK/Ireland on wiki.

This movie was literally ahead of its time.such a beautiful movie, many years later and tried buying it on DVD but found out the movie was never released due to the music which had to be licensed . So oods are this will never be on digital format and hence why you can see the movie on KZread. And you can get it on Asian territories on a weird video format called VCD........oh well,

The bmx bicycle race movie RAD suffered a DVD release problem too despite high demand - but they eventually released it - it looks like you can get Electric Dreams on DVD now.

Seeing ol Edgar for the first time, my first thought was "Looks like an Apple II clone" a lot of the interfaces reminded me of a mix between the Apple II, Atari 8-bit computers, and an early SGI workstation like the Iris 1000. It's pretty amazing what people envisioned computers could do back then, and in a way, this movie kinda predicted how home automation would work. Nowadays, we got Google Assistant and Alexa doing the work from a much smaller device with just as many plugs required for appliance automation to work, but in the 90s, there was a home automation system laid out in a similar way, tethered to a pc just like in this movie. For those curious about that, LGR made a video about it not too long ago.
