Electric Car. Oil from reduction gear after 48000km ?
Hyundai Kona Electric EV
Oil right after the first change at 48,000 km. Black completely opaque.
I put a strong large hard disk magnet in the oil and it caught nothing. Either the oil holds the metal more tightly than the magnet attracts, or all the metal is left on the sides of the gear, or there is no metal that the magnet can attract. Maybe there is another reason.

Another couple of possible explanations - iron which was present has been ground down into small particles which have oxidised and are now present as non-magnetic compounds suspended in the oil (some forms of iron oxide are non-magnetic e.g. hematite) - no idea how likely this is and some forms of iron oxide are attracted to magnets (e.g. magnetite). The black is not a compound of iron but something else which is also non-magnetic (e.g. aluminium).
