    The engine has a longer range than an electric bike, and when you run out of gas, you fill it back up in a matter of minutes, in order to recharge the bike depending on kit, it can take 30mins- to hours

    yeah but you're never gonna wanna ride it more than like 10 miles lol the vibrations on my one is killer. So the range doesn't matter that much especially refilling the tank vs charging

    actually with two stroke engines you have to mix it with a 16:1 ratio of oil to run, you would have to buy a more expensive 4 stroke engine to be able to fill it up with regular gas.

    the thing is, the battery will be dead or will have low charge hold in 2 to 4years if you use it or not... and they are quite pricy, an gasoline engine in the other hand will be still here in 10years... and you forgot the price of those charges.

  • @bikeberry

    Good reasons. Gasoline engines are vastly more affordable and easier to work on, there are also plenty of add-ons that that can be used and reused for all of your bikes. Although, electric engines are far from horrible. The technology is continuously getting better and becoming more affordable, especially when considering the constant rise in petrol. There are also many individuals who prefer the reduced carbon footprint. There is no wrong answer in which is better, it all comes down to what you're looking for.

    We agree, battery evolution is slow, but I think you're underestimating it. Look at Tesla, not a perfect electric vehicle but it is an effective all electric vehicle. About the cost of electricity, the battery of an e-bike like this doesn't exceed .5Kwh. The cost of electricity in the USA is about 10cents/KWh, so that gives us about 5cents per full charge, thus 20 charges per dollar, meaning 500 miles per dollar!!! Not to mention charging is available in public places for free.

    My motor with all the parts was only 85$ free shipping on Amazon compared to a electric mid drive motor being 600$ plus and another 4-600 bucks for the battery. I like that they are silent but the distance and change time is really not very convenient. Also my gas 2stroke is much faster and I feel like its more powerful. If I had a bunch of money I would get a electric kit with 3 extra batteries but I'm just a middle class guy that could use all that money for all sorts of more important things. Anyways just have fun riding what ever you have ✌

    @@zacharytriano5112 ik this is old but I also should mention when it comes to electric bikes vs motorized bikes, one of the huge advantages of ebikes is the legality of them. 1.cops will less often stop and question you. 2. You can use the bike lane which in a lot of states has the advantage of being able to not deal with traffic and in urban areas sometimes don’t require you to wait at traffic lights. 3. Until you get to the 60+ mph mark you don’t need a licensee at all so even if a cop stops you, if you don’t have a license you can’t get given a ticket since it’s not considered a “Commute Vehicle”

    I have an electric bike, they're good for people who dont want to do any maintenance. Charge and go. I just didnt like that the max speed would slowly get less and less as you ride more. After a 30 minute ride you can already start to feel less torque and max speed. Gas is better for consistent power throughout your ride

  • @vipervidsgamingplus5723
    @vipervidsgamingplus57233 жыл бұрын

    The main advantage of a gas engine is that if something happens like the piston and cylinder breaks you can replace them two parts, with an electric motor you have to replace the entire motor. Then you also have to factor in the amount of electricity you have to replace in the battery because unless you somehow can get your electricity in your home for free you have to factor in the cost of that. Carbs last pretty well and shouldn’t break on you unless of back fire, the whole electric motor and battery can short circuit itself if a break in the plastic shell for the components occurs and it is raining, most gas bikes run a magneto loop that can be replaced for around $10 if something goes wrong. Honestly all forms have trade offs that can ruin the motor itself.

    In Washington State we can go up to a 49 cc gas engine and still ride the streets, PROVIDED we register it as a moped and get a plate for it. I'd been looking at a emotor for quite a while, but they really have practical distance problems (battery weight, recharge time). A gallon of gas that I can get anywhere, vs a 20 - 55 lb battery that will take 8 - 12 hrs to recharge.

    For sure. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. We certainly enjoy the fun aspects of the motorized gas powered engines but the electric bikes are surprisingly more hassle free than you'd think. There's something calming about starting up an electric motor on demand when you don't want to pedal anymore.

    electric bikes don't require any licensing in MN. You can have a 1000W nominal motor. They never said how many you can have or peak watts, motor type, or voltage. Also there is a 20 MPH speed limit, but I have had no trouble going 30 or 40 MPH. Just be reasonable and follow traffic laws and speed limits.

    The one question I had wasn't answered. If the electric bike ran out of charge, would it be as easy to pedal as the gas powered bike? Is there noticable drag from the hub and it is noticeably heavier with the batteries? This is why I chose the gassy. The whole point to me was a power source but still having a pedal powered bike without needing assist.

    I have a 1000w conversion kit with a 48v battery , I've driven it hard for a year straight , 20 miles per day , I spent 600$ on a quality battery and it brought me to and from work for 3 months straight with no problem , over all I've had a year with no problems . Tge hard part of having a high powered motor is you just never get a consistent read on your battery , I've often times gone fast and not made it back home I need a second battery at this point . It's fading, as it fades I learned that driving slower gives me significantly more distance , so sadly it looks like to have a worry free day of riding long distance , you need 2 batteries . I was driving 10 miles per day at my old job. But I was going fast , almost full speed at times because I had to go on service roads , top speed was 50 km per hour which was significantly enough speed for a bike frame which isn't build to sustain 50 km constantly , you have to check , maintain and reinforce your axels with torque arms and constantly change your brake pads , keep that in mind . My over all view on ebikes is that they are good , but situational, the truth about engines is , we are not there yet with the technology, we are good , but simply not there where we need to be with regards to longevity and somehow figuring out how to self charge while riding goes. After a full year of rising an ebike hard , like I weigh 230 lbs , tge battery and motorized wheel weigh easy 25 lbs on tge bike , my sons bobike seat which holds 70 lbs ,is 12 lbs and school his school bag and of course my son at 60 lbs . Were talking over 310 lbs of weight that thing drags with ease pretty much . So it's being worked hard yes , but again 600$ for the battery 300for tge conversion kit ,( that was pre pandemic, they've jumped since, but try ebay ), the bike, steel frame 125$ marketplace ,torque arm 15$ , fenders 20$ flashing and front light 800 lumons 24$ , brake pads 10$, per year 50$ depending how you ride , helmet , the most important thing , I was hit by a car 1st time in my life , not my fault but 3 days after starting to wear a helmet, fractured shoulder but head was safe . Oh and 2 pairs of tires because I am kind of crazy how I ride and needed snow tires too , not genuine ones just well threaded , I'm in Canada. So yes it's costly the first year , but once yiur set up its just maintenance. I wish I could get 100 km on a single charge but again the downfall is that these batteries don't last even if you get the high end lithium ion battery , but again I've traveled probably 4000 km over this year approximately so can I complain overall , no . Just makes me sad that my batteries not whatvit used to be , but as is this game at the moment. I'll have to get another and then I'll be happy. We need longer lasting , and batteries with longevity. I wrote all of this while charging my battery in a metro station in montreal because my battery died , stuck charging , been an hour , keep this in mind , do yiu have 3 to 4 hours to charge you battery if you get caught out somewhere? I've been stranded 7 times 3 were major , out of tge city and had no choice but to spend 2 hours in tge middle of some small town at a park, tgebonly available socket I could find . If I had to drive long distances I'd go gas but tgey are loud motirs to my understanding , I saw one once and I was embarrassed for the guy driving it lol , but whatever works ! . Have a good day .

    J Hewitt here's a simple comparison... gas: (preferably 4-stroke, but not limited to), cost, good quality bike kits can range from $200-$400 for the complete setup of an 80cc engine ebike: kits can range greatly from $200-$500 for setups between 250W-1,000W, but these kits almost never include the battery which can cost $300-$400+ by themselves gas: power - a person of less than 150lbs can usually ride a 40cc motor at 15mph+ easily, over I recommend 80cc motor, which can carry a 250lbs person at 20mph+ easily, but can get speeds over 30+mph ebike: power, a person over 150lbs can use a 350W for pedal assist, but not recommended for unassisted, otherwise, 150lbs+ should get at least 750W-1,000w, speeds are still limited gas: range - average distance can be 30-40+ miles per tank and you can fill up in less than 60 seconds and gas stations are everywhere ebike: range - average distance can be 20-30 miles between charge, and charges can take 2.5-4.0+ hours (if you can find a place that will let you charge up) gas: longevity - a properly maintained motor can last 6,000-10,000+ miles, ebike: longevity - most batteries can be charged up to around 800 times average, around 18,000-20,000 miles, but the motors themselves rarely last more than 5,000-8,000 miles, simple and cheap breakdown maintenance on a 2 or 4 stroke motor is usually less than $75-$100, extending its life for another 5,000-7,000 miles ebike motors usually start at $200+, and the batteries at $300+, gas @ 20,000 miles $200+ for maintenance/repair or $400+ for replace ebike @ 20,000 miles $800 (replaced 3-4 times) & $300+ for battery = $1,100 cost and longevity......seems the maker of this video purposefully left some info out, seems a little bias

    I've been thinking about building a hybrid bike...an electric front hub assembly, and the 2 stroke gas engine for the rear. Has anyone done this? Possibly adding a solar panel to charge the battery and an auxiliary wire to the battery from the gas engine to charge the battery as well. Haven't put too much thought into it as the front wheel/hub kits are expensive LOL.

    If we could drop it into the ol' fusomatic to make a monster of a bike, we would. Unfortunately, that mix would require some sort of control box to regulate the motors into unison. These motors work at different speeds and through different means. The likely effect would be a boost in low end performance, with little to no boost in top speed. At some point, the more powerful gas engine would overpower the electric engine, causing a similar situation as trying to pedal while going down a steep hill; there will be motion from the engine but not enough speed or power to properly transfer any driving force.

    Pity the gigabike is classed as a scooter and therefore needs a drivers licence and registration as a motorcycle in South Australia. ALL gas engines were re-classified as motorcycles as of 2016. All that's still legal are the e-bike conversions (ie, the hub wheel kits). For now.

    Exactly - always best to check the laws for areas you plan to ride in - even if you're just visiting. No one wants to wind up with a ticket or worse. Also keep watch for sudden law changes - the ban on gas powered bikes here was sudden and with no media coverage. One day I'm riding a perfectly legal bike with a little 80cc, the next it's classed as a motorcycle. Lots of people suddenly owning bikes with no where to ride them.

    I travel a lot in a semi truck. A 2 stroke all the way to get going quick to somewhere a few miles away. Just have to pull the bike out, put the front wheel on. Turn on the gas and away I go. On the way back shut the fuel off and let the bowl empty (which takes awhile), get back crack the drain for what didnt get sucked up, take the removable gas tank off, and finally the front wheel. All takes a matter of minutes. Until e bike batteries become better with charging and storage then I'll switch. It takes half a day to charge and they cant be stored at full charge for more than 2 days. Gas you can get up and go somewhere. The 100cc I have is noisy, but nobody seems to care. Next upgrade is a quieter muffler with chamber. I would like a 4 stroke, but they are pricey for the same power and may leak oil being stored sideways or worse into the crankcase breather. Overall 2 stroke for readiness. Nothing's perfect.

    Hello there! Nice informative video! However you left out the cost of the oil a two stroke engine must have mixed in the gas! With that, it is not a lot of money, but if you use a top quality synthetic oil it can get more expensive, but it will help with reaching the higher miles before it gets tired! If the mix ratio is 30/1 that would mean for every 30 gals of gas at $2.50/gal, you would need to add a gallon of oil to the mix and a good quality synthetic oil can be expensive! Like around another $20.00!

  • @bikeberry

    @bikeberry

    You are correct, we left out the price of the oil because it ranges between brand, retailer, and type of oil used. Similarly, the price of gas also varies from locations. For our location, Los Angles County, gas prices can vary up to 50 cents.

    4 stroke internal combustion engines usually do better than 2 strokes when it comes to hills and pulling power. Electric bikes usually have more torque than most internal combustion engines, but it also depends on the engines watt capacity to use more power for hills. We'd suggest looking at a 4 stroke or a 500w or larger electric motor.

    Most of our customers aren't concerned about the maximum load a bike can carry, but are more concerned with top speed. The general rule with either type of bike, gas or electric, is that the more weight the lower speeds and MPG. All of our products, both gas and electric powered bikes, can carry a load of 250 lbs with ease. Typically, gas bikes can carry a larger load. If carrying a load for a long distance is of concern, an electric bike would not be ideal as the battery would run out quicker than a tank of gas.

Where I live, it gets to be 100+ degrees and I don't like leaving my bike out in the sun and it ruining my batteries. Quite a few comments I've read say that the engines are dirty, hot, and noisy. Get a 4-stroke like I've got and it's so much cleaner than the 2-strokes, and it's a lot quieter especially with an aftermarket exhaust. You won't burn yourself if you are careful. Plus, gas is a ton cheaper to buy the kit and with a 4-stroke, you have the convenience of just pulling up to a gas pump and filling without mixing oil.

    Ebikes do need a break in period. The battery when new should be charged to 100% the first 6 times it's used. After that if you have a smart charger, to more than double the life of your battery, you can only charge it to 80%. Ebikes are also 50 state legal everywhere a regular bike can go. Ebikes can also be hot rodded with modifications. A BBSHD can have a cruising speed of 30+mph with a 48v battery, change that to 52v and you will go faster. If you want to bump it up to 50+mph, change the controller and get a 72 or 88v battery. The motor can handle it, but any warranty would be voided. That's just a start.

    Actually, I’d say electric bikes can be modified just as much. For example, motor wattage, ESC type (stock or professional with finer tuning adjustments via software), number of batteries for increased range, voltage (32, 46,58v).

    Forgot about the BMS. Higher quality one allows for faster charging.

    I have seen reports of a small gas motor/generator. I think it can be used to recharge or to run as you drive to greatly extend the range. Take a little break some time and it'll charge while you get a Coke!

    2-stroke engines can theoretically last forever if you take care if them properly.

    Most of gas bike kits are cheaply built and constantly break, had one before and spent 80% of time fixing it, plus they are not reliable at all if you need to commute. Got an ebike wheel motor kit and its been fantastic to me! I use it to commute to school, saving $400/ semester just on parking and I park bike right next to my classes

    We're glad you found your perfect engine kit, but lets watch our language and keep this channel family friendly. Everyone has their own needs and desires for a ride. Some prefer electric, others prefer gas. It all comes down to ever individuals preference.

    I like that these bikes are for commuting yet at 2:41 the engine clearly states its "purpose" haha. might have to take that sticker off before hitting the roads

    All of our engines, and many small engine in general, are intended for recreational use on private roads, closed, circuits, or private land. Many regions do not legally approve the use of these engines on public roads of highways. That sticker is to err on the side of caution. We recommend checking your local DMV for the most accurate laws regarding motorized bicycles.
