I think you nailed all the valid points. I remember years ago, got a flat while traveling through TN at night. I had a mountain bike on back of vehicle which allowed me to ride to the nearest bridge to get a cell phone signal and call state police. They definitely have cool wow factor.

Rather have either a regular mountain bike, or one with electric assist. Don't want to be dependent on it being charged. Definitely looking into folding bikes.

I prefer electric assist on a normal mountain bike with a bike trailer to carry any gear plus a compact charging station for all the battery operated devices not just the bike.

I got a 26 inch folding bike and put an electric rear wheel hub motor andf kit on it and made a trailer from a pull behind , folding kids trailer

Put a solar panel on it with a charge controler. So when you go out it will just recharge by itself.

This is definitely better than a mountain bike if you’re trying to get home with gear. Try riding a mountain bike through rugged steep terrain with that weight. You better be in great shape. Excellent video. The price is a deterrent for many of us.

What I absolutely admire and respect about Jason that many, maybe most KZreadrs don’t do, is place a review after using the gear for a long time. He appears to be buying everything himself unlike others on this channel. He’s the only person that I’ve seen gets out there and uses the tools for a long time and reports his experience with them. This channel has become too infomercial like! Jason is the only reason that I’m still watching. Notice how he’s not the one doing the cheesy reviews on products that haven’t been consistently used? Again, I know most channels do this because a lot of them do need a way to fund their hard work. The other people seem nice but they’re not Jason.

I do think the others on this channel might be reporting good info on EMP products and Ferraday cages. They need to use it for a while before people use their money to buy a product that they’re endorsing. I think I saw Jason report on one product that he got for free. He said he just received it and will try it out and update us later. Well, he updated us. The bag appears to be a very good product

Be an advantage to charge when riding it. It wouldn't be much, but mabe stretch it to 50ish miles staying under 15mph, before it goes flat. . I would also figure out how much it would recover in a day. So you could estimate how much time/days it would take to cover, say 125 miles. Sorta like westerns estimating by saying another town was 3 days away or 2 hard days riding away. 0.01c

I live at the beach in SoCal. About 10 years ago there was an earthquake off Oregon that triggered Tsunami warnings. After about 5 minutes, my tenants tried to drive up a hill that's less than 1/4 mile away (probably closer to 1/8mi). My wife and I decided to wait to see what happened at San Francisco which is about half the way down the coast to us from the epicenter. Turned out it was somewhat of a false alarm but brought important facts to light. My tenants came back about 3.5 hours later and said they were totally jammed in traffic the whole time. They didn't even get halfway to the hill that started less than 1/4 mile away. Just tonight there was a motorcycle fatality in the area and one street being closed for 5 hours jacked up traffic tremendously for about a 4 mile radius. These are all back streets but the chaos of people trying to get home on Friday was crazy. I have decided that having e-bicycles is a must if we have to bug out. I'll put them in my van with other supplies (and mini trailer) and if traffic snarls, we have the option of continuing on the bikes. I will get bikes with pedals though b/c I want to ride the bike paths/boardwalks during regular times and they have been cracking down on e-motorcycles on the bike paths.

Interesting. There is a lot of things that need to be done to that before I consider investing. The one thing I did like about that one is that had a banana seat. Not a butt-pincher. Good review, looked like fun😊

Folding electric, 330lb capacity. 32-ah battery, hydraulic brakes, front and rear racks. And a trailer for cargo to 140 lbs. Not a motorcycle but will carry and tow a load. EMP shield it as well as the power supply and chargers. If going long distances might have to travel every other day. Even has a good gun rack. Max speed 30 mph. 65 miles electric only, more if peddling. Great for the RV and camping but will work for bugout or getting water if no more fuel is available. I bought it on weight capacity and battery size mostly but will fit in my RV trunk. Everything is made in China including solar panels. I bought it now since soon you might get nothing out of China. The motorcycles are nice for rougher terrain for sure. The biggest con is you need more to be able to charge it and water crossing is out. One pro is you can peddle it even if the battery is dead.

An electric bike may be more versatile because you could pedal it when the batteries die. Having a flexible solar panel tarp would be a must so you could charge the battery on the go for longer distance travel. I'd really like to see someone put an e-bike to the test with a backpack or saddle bags and see how well it does.

Should be a bycicle. An ebike battery would take days to recharge with a 100w solar pannel. Some conversion kits for bycicles use regenerative braking, so you can recharge while peddaling/walking. In addition to solar pannels you could use a wster turbine. Any water flow would recharge while sleeping near a river.

Everything has its place as for this u can only go as far as it's energy reserve can go but if u had a regular bike u can only go as far as your energy reserve will allow as well So the more u have to pedal the more food u will require if u don't have food u not gonna make it far

It’s theoretically possible to charge the battery using solar panels. It would take a large array and a long time. The Suron you use would not be the best for SHTF. Burns too many watts too fast. As you said it would be ok for bug out for a short distance with limited stuff and assuming nobody wanted to take it from you.

Great video and interesting concept. Would be cool iff you can attach and detach pedals, so when runs out of electric you can attach pedals then maybe re charge the battery by pedalling 👍😎💪

I’ll buy one, Once they make them with spare batteries, where you can carry a couple spares in a backpack and go. My ideal setup would be 4 batteries that have 40-60mile range with portable charging station.

The batteries are big and heavy. Carrying one in a pack is possible but not fun. Carrying multiple batteries would be very challenging.

Great fun to ride on the property & an excellent product for modification project. We create a frame for an alternator so it will charge the battery as we ride, also add additional battery as a backup. As for EMP...well there's an old saying "fight fire with fire", same principal with a little bit of extra tech knowhow. Cheers mate. Catch you on the next On3.

Awesome Sur Ron is on my wish list of ebikes, for my first ebike I went with the eahora hedonic cupid. The cupid has good specs 330lb capacity with good torque and between a 30%-40% grade climbing rating and it has great range. Thanks for the video.

Hundred pounds, pedal it home if you run out of battery charge. Let's see how far most people can pedal a hundred pound bike. Same thing applies to lifting it over logs all day. Look at the specs of your battery to determine how large a bank of solar you need to recharge it. If I am bugging out I don't planning on drawing attention to myself with a huge solar setup.

I play with EUC's a lot, and I'd love one of these. I've been looking at them for quite a while. I just wish they had longer distance capacity.

You can turn your garage into a Faraday cage. If you've looked into emp scenarios, you know that almost all vehicles made after the mid 1980s have electronic parts that would get fried by an emp.

Horses are most likely goin to revert to main modes of transport only worry then would be predators and wild dogs . Grass is free and in most cases you can find a pond lake or other body of water to let it drink .

EMP would make those useless... sticking to my Montague Paratrooper Pro Mountain Bike... Just like rucking, human power only requires water, fat, & carbs ;)

An ADV bycicle with a lightweight e-motor it's better. I'm thinking on the priority 600x with a 100G front wheel (IP65 waterproof). Would weight around 50lb. Most gear should go into a rack.

You can lift most normal mountain bikes onto your shoulder with your pack on to get over obstacles, you don't have to plug it in anywhere. If you're unwell but still have stuff to do maybe the power outlay would be worth it but otherwise, not so much

How to carry gear ???

Id rather have the peddle version if i went that way but a good old mountain bike with fat tires and adjustable speed gears but thats just me.

What about a high-power scooter with off-road tires instead? You can go a lot more places with the scooter than the bike in this video.

I think that if you had space to store it at work or nearby, it'd make a decent get home ride.

I have been thinking about this for past 4 months. For deer and turkey hunting to get back in the woods farther. In your opinion. Will they be effective by a EMP ??

There are plenty of eBikes for hunting if you do some Googling. I actually think a good eBike for hunting might be a better option than an eMotorcycle. An eBike you can adjust power input while still have pedals, and many of them can be fitted with bow / rifle mount, side bags, etc.

@@KeywordManagement yes. I have been looking into several and maybe building my own. Using a three wheel bicycle frame for more payload. With a spare battery and a solar panel. You can travel. As far back in state and national forests you want. Secondary thought was if inside my SUV. Keeping the battery disconnected would it survive a EMP ? I know the metal bike frame may act as a antenna. But was not sure if it would survive??

If I was you, I'd look at AWD ebikes. A motor on both the front and rear and man, you can go just about anywhere in those. You can run one or both motors to conserve power, and you'll want fat tires as well. I would not get anything under 750 watts per motor, and depending on your terrain, 1000 or even 1500 watts per motor. I would also NOT get gear driven hubs with the planetary gears system in them. yes, you get more torque out of a smaller package, but most of those gears are not steel, they're nylon or plastic to reduce noise and they are noisy, but they have a higher rate of failure when abused in rough terrain. I would get just direct drive hub motors. They're dang near bullet proof, but weigh more, and you don't get the benefit of increased torque like you do from the geared system. Figure one horsepower is 748 watts or round up to 750 watts. As far as the battery size goes, I figure EASILY draining it at around 35 to even 50 watts per mile traveled in rough terrain. On the road, much less, around 15 to 25 watts per mile. If you help with pedaling, that goes a LONG way to extending your range. Many have dual batteries too. Don't believe the BS about range....cut that figure in half, and you're starting to get closer to reality, UNLESS you're doing A LOT of the work in pedaling. Keep in mind, almost all these ebikes have aluminum frames to save weight, but that comes at the cost of not being as tough and easy to repair as a steel frame, but using common sense and not beating the hell out of it in the bush, they work okay. Steel is just more forgiving but comes with the weight penalty, and that drains your battery faster. One thing I would get for sure, are hubsinks for your motors. They suck the heat out of your motor and the cooler you can run your motor, the longer it will last and the less wattage you need as the trip goes on. For $80, they are worth twice that. hubsink.com/ Now when it comes to EMP, well, I'm not that worried about it. You can buy a spare controller, and you should anyway, and put it in some EMP safe. I know people poo poo electric vehicles, but if you have solar panels, even if it takes a few hours, you can still charge it. And if you have access to a generator or vehicle and an inverter or a decent solar panel setup then you'd be in a good situation. How easy would it be to make alcohol fuel on the go? Not easy. You need to be stationary.

Great video overall, but I'm over half-way through the video and there has been no mention of the make and model of this bike. I get that you are providing general commentary about e bikes, but this is a pretty big omission for those of us who would like to do further research on what you are demonstrating in the video. Grid down other than a generator that uses gas and are noisy how are you going to charge said electric bike and don't say solor because that is not efficient enough for daily travel if you try to travel at day you won't be able to travel at night, I LOVE THE IDEA E BIKES ARE LIGHT AND QUITE I just don't se it being very good in a grid down scenario. Youd still be able to Psyphin gasoline out of gas tanks at fuel stations with a hose By removing the cap on the surface, Solar panel would work for Ebike Probably if you plan to travel a day and rest today and travel a day and so one. Regarding your had good sunlight to charge with On your rest day

It’s definitely got the fun factor but I feel like a normal bike would be better in that situation. That being said I really want a dirt bike just to have fun but they are so expensive for how not useful they are honestly.

A regular bike may be the best choice for people who are in half decent condition. However, the 40% of Americans who are obese, plus the 32% who are overweight, are not able to walk or ride a regular bicycle any appreciable distance. Unfortunate, but true.

I wouldn't waist my money on that junk. My mountain bike does more than that scrap and it can go as far as im willing to go 24/7.

you can get a electric bike that will do 35 mph. carry 350lbs. and has no gov restrictions as of yet.

I'd want to disable the brake cutoff. At least for the front brake. No reason you shouldn't be able to hit the front brake and spin the rear tire.

Power on dragging rear brake helps low speed maneuvers on big motorcycles, don't know about these little ones.

If you run out of battery, just charge it up with a gas generator for 3 hours.

Rechargeable batteries are just that, rechargeable. A few solar panels and you are good to go. How much gas can you store and bring with you for the life of that gas vehicle?

@@dougtso4126 So, you have power for maybe 20 years. And you can travel all over. Can you carry 20 years of gas, or store that much? And at what cost? Solar is free.

I would consider a bike with pedals. Any bike that is no-pedal, is a single use, run til battery dies, discard it. Also, I won't buy a Chinese product. That is sending money to China which helps them build their military. Besides, chinese steel is notoriously very poor quality. Also if a battery sits never used how long til the battery will not charge? 2 years? 3?. I don't know but gasoline engines can sit years and work fine. Electrics are quiet which is a real plus. Regular bicycles especially the super fat tire ones don't need any fuel. Wear a helmet.

If you had a camper van or lived in a vehicle, bikes like this on the back of it are very practical should your vehicle ever break down.

When you ran out battery You have to Walk it home...... PEDAL ASSISTANCE IS BEST 100%.......

We’ve run the batteries out on multiple e-bikes and we were able to easily ride them home. Not once have we had to walk an e-bike home.

I only have a few issues with electric vehicles. 1st the batteries have a expiration date and any battery you could DIY wouldn't be practical for one where as combustion, you don't have the draw or need the power and a old lead/acid would work fine. 2nd and most important to me is that Nuclear to me is the most likely SHTF. Well Nuclear = EMP = Dead electrictronics. If they make a E-vehicle with simplistic maintenance, EMP proof and infinite life batteries I'll invest right now. But in a Nuclear incident e-vehicles are dead and so are you. I know with my limited abilities (I am a tradesmen so I know enough) I can fix and kickstart an old dirt bike or jump my cruiser if I needed. Can't do that with electric vehicles. I'll accept the extra noise and needing to preserve gas if it means I can count on being able to GTFO at any time. I feel like the last few years alot of preppers are pushing E-bikes but to me that alot of money for something overly complicated and in the most probable SHTF scenario is rendered DIA. Also hope you don't crack the case in haste or emergency than go through or drop in water. Just a matter of time till water gets in. My bike drowns I just gotta swap a battery or rig a jump start and change the oil and I'm ready to go again.
