I'm 60 and have had ebikes for a few years now , and I like them more every day , the little boost in power keeps me motivated and helps me get up the big hills like I used too 😊😊

I hear that. I’m 37 with a herniated disc and I’m chomping at the bit for my cyc motor to show up.

One thing not mentioned I think is also a great advantage to eMTBs is the following. On the days where you don't feel that great, but you know you should get some exercise, getting over the hurdle of "get off your ass and out and riding" is much, much easier. And, if that one hill you could take in eco when you are feeling good just ain't happening because you aren't completely 100%, you can go up in power or go down in gears and still get up that hill. You are out and exercising, whereas with a normal MTB, you'd be sitting at home for sure, missing out on that one tour. I'm 57 and eMTBs have been my health savoir, because of this one and many other advantages. All the points made in the video I can also attest to. The only thing that is still an issue are the prices, but as also said in the video, as more and more bikes are produced, the prices will have to come down. I'm looking forward to that too! If you are still on the fence about getting an eMTB, just do it. I will guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Best thing I’ve ever brought. Unlocked another style of riding and can now enjoy some uphill trails and still keep the speed if not faster when going downhill👍

Love mine. Done almost 1000 miles since April and recently upgraded to a new full sus Cube TM. As a 49 year old dad it helps me get out and get a load of excercise that otherwise I wouldn’t have done. Upgrading is becoming a bit of an addiction though😂

Totally agree with both the point about freedom to explore and the socialising aspect. I went on a hill climb yesterday, crazy crazy steep, struggling not to wheelie over the back, heart rate pounding, panting away in eco. In front of me was my 9yo daughter on my spare bike, belting up the hill with her legs going 10 to the dozen, loving every minute and looking forward to the descent. Just not possible to get that experience on analog MTBs

Great video. Just done 45 miles on my EMTB, met my biking buds on their analogue bikes. One tried to lift it (Cube Stereo, Actionteam), too heavy. Mate, when was the last time you lifted up your car and said 'too heavy'😮

As an older rider, this saved my life. Aided fitness, weight loss. Instead of moving along at 10 mph, I can get along at 16+. C on vers more ground, such a joy! And…if I bonk, or have some pain, I know I will get back home!

Got my eMTB in late June and have put 500 miles on it as of yesterday. I guarantee you that is much, much farther than I'd have managed on my acoustic. And when I go out, it's usually for a non-stop one hour ride with 1,000 calories burned and an average heart rate of 145-160. No way my aging, diabetic, chicken legs ever pulled that off.

For me at 50 years old but not that out of shape, my emtb is for just enjoying a hard long ride without giving myself a heart attack in the process. I've got a new full sus Cube on the way and it's going to open new doors for me after several years using a hardtail emtb. Can't wait. I still have my conventional mtb for leg and lung burning sessions but those runs tend to be for less aggressive terrain and exercise sessions.

Plugging a Vitus from CRC is a bit risky given their financial situation. Great price vs spec but caveat emptor!

You can’t beat getting out on your normal bike , much prefer it . And I own a kenevo , great fun no doubt , just two totally different sports imo. Oh the three tcu’s and second motor , don’t bode well now it’s out of warranty.!. I am also fitter now I’ve gone back to Normal bike 🤟. Swings n roundabouts 🤟

Ive just fixed my e bike after over a year, the motor went, i went back to riding my normal full sus and bought a gravel bike, i was excited once i fixed my e bike, rode it and just felt nothing towards it. Think ive got that used to riding a gravel bike that i enjoy that more, at least ive fixed thee e bike but dont think its gonna see much use.

They are simply fun. I've got two. Hopefully in 2 years I'll have the interest free paid off and the gearbox tech will be 2nd or 3rd gen.

Just got a e-bike. Being able to do more laps at the parks with no shuttle or uplift this is a game changer. Don't really want to go back.

Ive listened to you guys talking about this bike for so lon so ive just ordered a Vitus E-Escarpe 290 VR Mountain Bike and i can't wait to explore

Got my first E-MTB the year before covet as per Steve with his riding wellies three seasons of pure smiles. Secound season had to get one for my wife, then had to get a E- beach cruiser gor those asphalt days.

The pro of an e bike there are so many benefits I ride hard tail bikes I also ride an e mountain bike I love it and I get loads of leg pump and fitness my knees are shot from a motorcycle accident yrs ago I think the haters feel there. Ego is threatened I don’t understand why

I’ve had 4 of them. A YT Decoy, a Trek Powerfly and now have 2 Levos. All of them are fun when they work but are ridiculously expensive to keep running due to drivetrain and motor issues. Mainly drivetrain problems.

Ive had zero drivetrain or motor issues. Shimano has a 7 year warranty if there's problems. 1000 miles to the chain, same as my normal mt bike.

My E8000 on my YT Decoy failed prior to the warranty expiring. Actually, the bearings failed, not the motor. On one of my levos the motor quit disengaging properly and had to be replaced under warranty @ 400 miles. So out of my 4 bikes, I've had two motor failures. The drivetrains haven't lasted worth a damn. I've even ran the new SRAM Transmission and broke a chain in two places and damaged two cogs on the cassette @ 350 miles. I'm testing Link Glide now. We will see if it actually holds up. Keep in mind, I ride hard, fast and boost most of the time. People running eco/trail probably won't see the problems I've had. @@bradsanders6954

The hatred, amongst the roadbike riders I ride with is huge. Mention e bikes and they act like I poked them with an electric prod. Most have never rode dirt, they have zero idea what goes on but boy do they have hate.

This ^. Funny really. I give the same response to those that say "Cheat" when I'm at the top of a mountain..."I am having so much fun". Also I'm usually in jeans and a t, not lycra and funny clogs, when I walk in the pub.

Clean and lube after each ride will increase the longevity of the drivetrain and useable parts, this is more relevant on an e-bike.

Looks like he's just been either, 1. Logging, b. making furniture.iii. playing banjo on a river chewing tobacco in the middle of Texas.

Love my ebikes! I have 2 rocky mountains, my 2022 has over 2000 miles. Had to replace chain and rear cog 2 times this summer!! I also ride analog but I was sick of giving my boyfriend the e-bike when we would ride together and trying to keep up on an analog lol

The biggest problem with eMTB in the states... confusing access to trails. Some trail systems allow eBikes. Some trail systems only allow Class 1. Some trail systems ban them all outright. Worse yet, you often times can't definitively get an answer till you show up at the trail and see the signs yourself. This can be a real disappointment after long drives to try new trails. Then the real kick in the pants... having access change. Add into the mix a recent string of anti-eBike groups posting bogus "no eBike" signs.This appears to be a knee jerk reaction to eMoto Surrons showing up on MTB trails.

I bought a trek emtb and I love it, and also Brie gravel bike

Bought one this june, and had a great few months, and then the drivetrain was completely worn out in september. Chain, casette and chainring. After just 1500km, with weekly chain cleaning/oiling. I know it's on me for beeing fat (115kg) and using turbo (bad physical health), but at this pace this is going to cost me more than my car to keep using...

Great stuff, having an e-bike is rather like riding a tandem I guess, your motor is your buddy, those inclines less painful and the downhills come sooner. Easy to please yourself and able to keep up with others! Cross country for me, so get to stop and chat; MTB'ers always moaning about reliability and products being vastly overpriced and not getting stuff repaired. Yep they have been taken to the cleaners. However having met a hundred people who have spent a little more than a grand on their e-wheels, what a difference! 99.9% were really satisfied with their purchase or gift and not only had they enjoyed the great outdoors they had improved their health. Mental blocks of not succeeding blown away on top of Black Dog hill! Wheels on fire!

I paid X amount for a really nice e mt bike in 2022, now its worth squat. Prices dropped, inventory sky rocketed, lots of new bikes and brands came on market. I thought of selling it but I would take a 3500.00 hit. I ride my normal bikes 90% of the time.

Is it a coincidence that the 2 guys presenting embn are on the heavier side? 😊

I think they are great, but the BIGGEST problem I see is people who buy emtbs for just riding on pavement and possibly on gravel, usually have no street/trail etiquette and ride way too fast and amongst pedestrians, dogs and children. These people would have no interest in riding an acoustic bike, ever, yet think going out and buying an expensive full suspension emtb will change their lives. A friend who is a paramedic would agree... Where I ride I see a lot of emtbs on the road getting to the area, but almost no emtbs actually riding offroad.

Whats the Point of Cons if you phrase them like they are pros?kinda biased

I wanted a Vitus as you mentioned. It can't be shipped to the USA but they don't tell you that until you fill out the order form. Bummer!

I rode a specialized levo sl for 1 yr ( over 1000 klm ) and got on my scott spark the other day and let me tell you something it felt electric.

pros-.. faster up the trail and, faster rides overall, which in turn, makes room for more overall riding time negs-.. slower down the hills, weakening leg muscle power, gigantic prices when compared with normal bikes.

I ride 90% road/gravel/mtb, 10% E-MTB(for the last 5 years, Cairngorm Mountain back of beyond stuff).. I'd have to disagree that they get you fit, they'll get you out more often, and allow the average person to not stray beyond "zone 2" but when I go out in Eco now I'm always in Zone 1, and on flats and descents turn it off sometimes.... You won't truly get fitter until you also do intervals in the Z4/5 range that most E bikers are trying to avoid at all costs (hence the Puffa jackets on scorching July days lol)...as for losing weight that's all down to diet.. Steve and Chris remained the same weight by the looks of it over the years so E-bikes didn't help one bit with that !!! Biggest downside to E-MTB is the thought of it packing up in the middle of nowhere...... Anyway, off to Laggan Wolftrax tomorrow to try out the new runs opened last week...double battery day!!

my first season with e-mtb was discovery that after 20 years of no riding at all my heart rate was skyrocketing and I was extremely tired after 20km!(I have unlocked bosh cx). In the second season I do 50km on analog XC wth decent avg hands down. Analog made me fitter but emtb made me move. Now I am riding both, analog for training, emtb for fun. I applied my own assistance modes where two of them are below standard ECO and I do not use TURBO anymore which spoils drivetrain(it is simply too powerfull in my opinion).

Personally there is no better time to buy an e-bike there are some bargains out there at the moment with 2023 models having discounts of up to a third off 🤯, I can concur with all the positives in the video though after purchasing my first e-bike this summer, never looked back some of my friends ask why i now laugh and smile whilst going up climbs, this is why.

The biggest drawback is, that you need a 2nd bike for the time you E-Bike is in the workshop for several weeks being repaired and most likely the 2nd bike is also an E-Bike 💸💸💸💸💸💸

I'm not sure about the reliability bit. Definitely needs to improve.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at the law it is currently illegal to ride on the road with a motor bigger than 250 watts.

So lets plan a day ride on an analogue. check route check elevation work out weakest member and curtail the route so we can all make it. Day ride on an ebike we know everryone can make the route and distance as the ebikes provide the assurance of just looking for recharge points. The riders love it as they can take in the views on steep climbs and arrive at the top not in cardiac arrest. Sensible full power ebikes at mid range cost make the most sense. good components and no pointless add ons.

I've just bought a new e bike but have to admit that I think they are crazy overpriced. I want one so I've forked out but I don't think the tech is worth the money we are forced to pay. I know they blame it on R and D etc but I believe they are so expensive because we are still willing to pay it. Which is exactly what I've done. The motors for example are made to fail and dont generally have spare part options. It's not a car so forcing people to use dealers for jobs that can be done by someone handy is unfair. But the concept and levels of fun I agree is priceless as that's the whole point we do it.

The motors are not 'made to fail' - no manufacturer wants endless warranty claims... The current [motor] technology is pretty reliable, and as Adam says in the video, will only continue to improve with time. All things can break if you use them hard enough/with not enough mechanical sympathy and regular maintenance.

My brose original 5.5k had to go for service (water ingress) all parts were available and repair took 2 days. Pinion new MGU looks to be reliable with just an oil change. Polini have self serve motors. I have heard that Brose S mag motors had a higher rate of failure not sure why. Bosch seem to have good support. The Most important thing is the batteries and the charger. get European certified and manufactured components and then the likelihood of fires is much reduced.

@@tomquimby8669 my Brose failed at 3k too, but then again my Bosch failed at 2k. My mileage is high so both warranty jobs. They NEED to be IP rated Edit: I'd add that my Bosch was off the road for a month waiting for repair. My spesh was repaired in a few days. Sometimes reliability is about more than sheer failure rates, but I'm not convinced the Brose is any worse than Shimano and Bosch these days since the latest revisions

Love my emtb but I think transporting them is also a con due to the weight.

Emtb are no where near as agile as a regular mountain bike, I had a scott scale 770 back in 2015 brand new and that takes the piss out of my 2023 stance E+ when in tight trails etc

The price of emtb keeps most people out. Thats not very inclusive at all. There's really no decent bikes below £4.5k and thats motorbike money. Theres really no excuse for it, blatant profiteering. If you can buy a good entry level full sus analogue for £1500 then entry level EMTBs should be £2500

There is no drawbacks from owning a ebike apart from when your 4k second hand bike needs a new motor after a 150 miles (EP8 ) thats it .the glorious 150 mile ive done have been incredible

@@cream8701 should be able to trace the bike back to when it was first built and programmed using the product number and serial number on the bike frame, thats how i got the program configuration files for my new motor from my e bike manufacturer, mine wasnt in warranty and i sold thee old motor for spares i paid full whack for my motor, maddison might do you a heavily discounted deal on a new motor if its not de restricted the one you have. Hopefully you can sort that warranty out with thee old owner 👍
