Loved just listening to this video while hiking, copying the QSOs in my head. Can’t wait for my KH1 to arrive! 73 N3CI
Well, that site looks familiar ;-) - lightning fast deploy and breakdown - cool!
you were the driving force to inspire me to start learning cw. Its been around a year and Ive been getting close to a point I'm ready. These videos with the kh1 really are giving me the final push I need. Thanks for the awesome videos!

It's an honor to play even a small role in your CW journey. Thank you for the kind words.
Great video, Thomas! I learned a new trick "holding the KH1 while doing the figure-8 twirl" I figure-8 most of my loose wires but holding KH1 while extending your pointer & pinky fingers is cool trick! Thanks!

You know, I've gotten so accustomed to doing this with the KH1, I don't even think about it anymore.
Elecraft is already taking my money for one of these. You're just making it harder for me to wait for the one I ordered now.
Thank you Thomas and thanks for your time on Saturday at LICW club. You are the inspiration driving many of us. I am now at point of picking up call signs and states so getting there!
I can't wait for mine to arrive!
mmmmm after all these recent KH1 total POTAvations, you are making it look very tempting!🤣

Ooops! :)
Almost all of my activations are portable. I'm awaiting my KH-1 and hope it will ship in the next couple of weeks. I ordered on 20 October, a month ago. I really like the ability to do a quick setup, activate or chase a few activators, and put everything away without the big deployment. There are lots of times I want to play a little, but don't have time to do the full deployment. This radio, the KX1, the KX2 all are amenable to those kind of deployments. Next I need to determine how to carry a mast in my tiny pack. There are lots of places here in Nevada without a tree for wire deployment.
Thomas, the speaker sounded fine. I think it’s a great benefit of this radio. Of course headphones are better. But it sounded great. Thank you.
i printed out a bunch of those log sheets and made little booklets to include in my kits, now seeing the logbook in comparison to the radio i cant believe how small that thing is.
Really cool I want one 😂
Beyond crazy. I have a crazy case of the wants!
Great activation. I don’t need another radio, but I want another radio! The KH1 is already ordered and probably two weeks out by now…hopefully! Studying full for my General license by year end if all possible.,be safe.. Cheers Alex, K9YTT
NICE VIDEO. INTERESTING LOOKING RADIO. THE PADDLE LOOKS A LITTLE TO CLOSE TO THE KNOBS. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE NOT HAVING TO MUCH OF A ISSUE.

No--it's not an issue with the paddle. It sticks up higher than the knobs.
Genius video, Tom!
nice op. wanted to see the juggle act.
You are showing how versatile the KH1 is to use. I love my KX2 how small and easy to use. I keep looking at the KH1 for a smaller travel radio. I wonder how it compares to other small HF radios? I also hope the side tone can be changed to a more pleasing sound.

Elecraft is working on a firmware update that should improve the sidetone. I plan to do videos comparing the KH1 with other field radios.
I hope that I can get one next summer. I'll be getting my Canadian license this upcoming spring and will look into getting advanced and CW early summer. I'm preparing myself now, learning to send and copy at 20 WPM. That's "funstrating" (fun and frustrating), hope to be there by spring.

"Funstrating." I love it!
2.2:1 on just a BNC and counterpoise is pretty good. Haha.
The man has sent so much Morse code that he injured his thumb! It's like a pro athlete pulling his hamstring.

Fantastic! Thanks Thomas for a great video that shows just how versatile the KH1 is and how quickly one can get on the air with it. I can't wait until mine arrives. BTW, where is your Suburu Forester? :) Best 72, George K2WO

I still use the Forester, but the Volvo has become my daily driver for local commuting because it's electric. You'll still see the Forester in videos, though.
Hi Thomas! I see you soon buying one of those camera supports you can use on the neck so you can record videos while walking heheh. 73

Yes. I do need one of those!
Thomas you have inspired me to get back to learning morse code. You look like you are having so much fun. Just want to know if the KH1 is as wonderful as it seems. I do a lot of POTA and hiking in the field. It's really expensive so I want to be certain. My concerns is there may be hardware upgrades in the future or they will be on backorder forever when the Europeans get certification. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I'm so glad you're learning Morse Code! I don't think, at this point, there are going to be major upgrades to the KH1 hardware. I've had an early test version and recently replaced it with the production model which has upgrades over pre-production. It is a really fun radio. Just so easy to take anywhere/everywhere. I'm not entirely sure what the plans are for EU distribution other than via Lutz.
I noticed when you narrowed the filter, the offending signal popped out instead of your hunter. I’m wondering if you could have shifted your RIT to help. Or do you have to dig through the menu for the RIT? Because obviously you don’t have time for that! De n5vwn
@ThomasK4SWL

You can shift RIT and it's not a complicated process on the KH1.
This being patient thing is wearing me out!
You’ll probably get a bidding war for the FT-817ND, if you decide to sell.

I am definitely going to sell one of them. I just have to decide which one. :)
if you get a chance could you please describe the kind of max range you are getting with this device on 20m using the same antenna and counterpoise as this video ? Thank you.

You might check out this field report and look at the QSO map: qrper.com/2023/11/my-first-sota-activation-with-the-new-elecraft-kh1-handheld-qrp-transceiver/
Nope! this was another one that I could just about tell you were in there. so no brass ring. it's been month or better since I've gotten into your log. . de Ellis WA1RKS
The KH1 is cool except now you don't have to show a bunch of other cool gear that I want to buy. 😅
Is the retro sidetone as grating and harsh in person as it comes across on the videos?
@ThomasK4SWL

The sidetone has a squarewave sound. I do believe Elecraft is working on improving it in firmware.

Thanks. I just had the thought that maybe the tone is triggering long buried memories of the 1980s when repeated tones of that timbre coming from your computer’s speaker were its death cry. 😃
Read that there is an internal clock in KH1? Ist that true?
@ThomasK4SWL

Yes, that's true!
the raspy sidetone is annoying. sounds like triangle wave. why????
@ThomasK4SWL

You might ask Elecraft--I don't know. I do know they're working to modify the sidetone via firmware.
No hitch-hiking for you.
