Eleanor Guthrie || She’s Lost In The Darkness (+4X06 - Black Sails Tribute)

It's finish. Eleanor is dead.
I get out of episode 4x06 ... soothed. Sad, heart broken, in tears, but in peace. In the end, all of Eleanor's writing will have been perfect. Her relationship with Rogers was only a lie to the end, just an extension of the illusion of her father, Richard Guthrie. Eleanor will have lied to herself all her life, and this is her tragedy. But she dies as a warrior. In pirate. To protect Madi. She dies in the same way as her mother, under a Spanish attack and it is tragic. She dies in Flint's arms, which is heartbreaking. Flint is lying to spare her but Eleanor knows what it is, otherwise she would never have asked this question about her husband monster. Now she is at peace and I too. Because now she is with Vane. One of the only people who loved her and her only true great love. This first video on the end of Eleanor is the first tribute of a long series. I put forward the Vane / Eleanor relationship, of course, but also Max / Eleanor, because Max actually ended up touching me and because at least she, her love for Eleanor was pure and sincere. Just like Vane. I ban Rogers completely. This man is a monster, a shit and he is solely responsible for the death of Eleanor. I hope that Max and the others will make him pay for it. I hope this video will please you. I had so much trouble doing it. It is just as horrible and painful for me to say farewell to Eleanor as to say farewell to Vane. But they are together now. Finally at peace.
I found videos of better qualities and I hope that will be seen!
Godspead, my eternal and beautitul Queen of Thieves. I'm so proud of you.

She was my second favourite character after Flint, she was ruthless but true to herself and no one else, she "betrayed" everyone she cared for because she could not betray herself, what she was working for, in a way she was the mirror image of Flint and it was nice to see that throughout the show Flint was the only one who never judged her or resented any of her actions, her death was sad but at least she died in the arms of one of the few people who understood her. Had she been born a man she would have made one hell of a pirate captain, life was not fair to her.

It's so true! It is true that she is indeed a kind of mirror of Flint and that is without doubt the reason why they understood each other so well, even if others around them tried to understand them when they loved them, few have succeeded. Eleanor is a real tragedy in herself, with somehow self-destructive behavior (like Flint), which also pushed her to get close to the bad people for her (Rogers and Richard) and to push back those who really loved her, even if they did not always understand her (Vane and Max). I love her character so much. She would have an incredible pirate captain, and I would have given everything to see that.

I wanted her to die just so that Rodgers would be devastated. After what he did to Teach (the torture), I hated Rodgers. Her story has been told and I knew it was a matter of time for her death. You see... in real life; Rodgers never marries Guthrie. I am not sure he remarries again after Sarah? SPOILER: There is a very sad scene between Rodgers and Eleanor's corpse that was just.. well.. very very sad. You have to watch epsiode 7 to understand.

The scene of her death is terrible, it hurt me so much. I've always liked her, she was one of the toughest of the show and I loved her complicity with flint, back in the first season. You're right, Vane was the only one who ever really loved her, despite the difficulties in their realtionship, and I really hoped their story could end a bit better. They were both too dominant to be together, but at least I hoped in some kind of reconciliation. To me she is the loneliest character of the show. Like...some people got close to her but no one (maybe except Vane) ever really understood her, her interests and her hopes. To me she has been constantly betrayed by everyone and for this reason I agreed at first when she helped Rogers. At least she was saving her own life. But then it broke my heart to see how uncomfortable she was in that facade she had created in order to be the kind of woman he would accept. Even if Nassau maybe wouldn't have deserved it, I hoped she would have returned to the "other side" in the end, because the freedom the pirates were fighting for was exactly what she had fought for her whole life. But yes, she died a warrior, and maybe, for the first time with Madi, she was not completely alone. At least Flint spared her of the last betrayal of her life. 😭😭😭 Great vid! It made me think about her so much. I love this song. ❤ Thank you for sharing

Oh jesus if I had comments like that the time I posted that video, I would have cried of happiness because Eleanor means A LOT to me (to say how much means to me, I get a tattoo of her name), and she got so much hatred when I make that edit (who is very old, I need to make a remake of it), and your analisys of her is actually perfect, like, at every point. She was very alone, and I also think she was quite self destructive, sadly :/ Anyway, thank you very very much for this

Wow! It's so beautiful when a character has such an impact on someone. Honestly I can't really understand why people hate her so much. I'm rewatching all the show lately and at first I thought I had misunderstood something the first time I saw it, for example about her break up with Max, but honestly, rewatching it I am just confirming my ideas😅 Of course she made some mistakes too, at some point in her life, but the thing is that she is human, just like everyone else is depicted to be in this show. No one is perfect, they have hopes, they make mistakes, they TRY to be what they need to be. But if they had known all the right choises to make from the beginning then we wouldn't have a show to talk about in the first place, so😅 She definitely deserves some love❤ she was an heroine

I did not have an ounce of sympathy for her. Charles loved her and gave his life so that she would have closure for what happened between him and her father and she still had him killed. Even when Ned Lowe was going to kill her he saved her once again but all she cared for was herself and her advancement.

Eleanor is a complicated character but one must understand that by killing Charles, it is a way for her to prove that she loved him. Love, true love, not the illusory and idealized love she has with Rogers or love-friendship with Max, not true love ... terrified Eleanor. It was something that made her vulnerable, making her weak and not understanding. And that provoked too much pain in her. By killing Charles, Eleanor killed what was in her eyes her greatest threat: her greatest love.

I have too much love for Eleanor to say that I stop loving her in Season 3 and the beginning of Season 4, this woman has changed my life, and I understand everything she does. .. but I agree, she made choices that are disappointing :'( Understandable, but disappointing. In a way, after almost dying, Eleanor resigned herself to the role that civilization imposes on women ; she resigned herself to the role of wife and mother, as a submissive woman. I would have preferred to see her struggling to continue to be that independent woman figure in a world led by men, an example for us women. But I understand Eleanor ... she made mistakes, like any human being :'(

Eyyy :D As always, a big thank you for your comment, they are precious to me. And strangely, this video is also one of my favorite among the one I could do, maybe even my favorite. Perhaps because I was totally crying by making it :') I had hesitated a lot in the past how to use this song for her. A video Vane / Eleanor, alone, she with all the characters? It's been a while since I wanted to use "Lost" for her but I did not know how, but I did well to wait because with the death of Eleanor, I had no doubt about how l In the end. He is a character hard to love. She made mistakes, big mistakes that I can understand that we can not necessarily follow her and love her. But yes, she was my baby, like Vane, and her death hurt me so much as losing Vane, and despite her mistakes I have always followed her and loved her. One understands in the end that Eleanor spent her life lying to herself. Running behind illusions instead of seeing what was true and good for her, rejecting her things. As the brilliant Lauren Sarner, a journalist specializing in BS, says, Eleanor spent her life trying to love people who did not deserve this love, Rogers and Richard, and to repel those who deserved it, like Max and Vane. Except that it was not really love for Rogers where Richard. Just the illusion. Just lying. And the tragedy of Eleanor is that she killed herself while running behind this lie. On the one hand, I'm glad she died because if she had survived she would have had a child of Woodes Rogers and would have spent her life with him and with time she would have ended up unhappy in this submissive woman's life, and it was a lot worse for me than death for her character... at least, when she died, she went away fighting, making me proud of her, so proud of her, she fought to the end, and she joined Vane now. That's all that counts in the end. But God knows that to see her die was horribly painful, yes. Thank you very much for your adorable comment, really, it made me warm in the heart if you knew !!! I do not care about the haters, believe me, I got used to it, and I will never give up my work on Eleanor, and on Vane and Eleanor. They count too much for me, it's my OTP forever :D

I honestly dont like eleanor as a character, she could NEVER keep an Alliance, not even to Bane that she Hurt the most, and in the end, she Just ended up with a man that was Just like the pirates she wanted to avoid, in my opinion, Flint should have told her that her husband was with the spanish, so she could die knowing that all of her efforts were for nothing, and that her legacy was lost the moment Bane died...

Vane please lol not "Bane" XD. Eleanor is my favorite character, but I understand that some people can dislike her. She's a Shakespearien character who have a self-destructive behavior until the end, and I love it because it's so tragic and well written, but Eleanor is however not particularly disloyal, she is simply loyal to her own idea of the future for Nassau and for that, she is indeed ready to break all the alliances she makes. She ended up with a man she didn't know at all and who didn't know her at all either, the whole relationship between Rogers and Eleanor is based on an illusion. I'm divided about the end with Flint. Part of me sees this as an act of sincere love from Flint and it was beautiful. But part of me is frustrated that Eleanor died thinking that Rogers was innocent. I wish she knew the truth, for once.

@@MissEleanorVane when you say she is willing to break all Alliances for her visión, that right there is why she failed, she could NEVER and i mean NEVER, make a compromise, and wouldnt allow any one else to add to that visión, and that is why she failed, because the one and only compromise she made was when vane captured the fort. • @MissEleanorVane

@@josealigueri1570 I don't quite agree with that, Eleanor made compromises, but not the kind of compromise that is necessarily seen at first glance, but the biggest compromise she made did not been with Vane in the fort (even if it was already one), the biggest thing she did was to bow to a role that she hated, that she despised, that was not her, who "mutilate herself" as she said herself for what she considered to be the good of Nassau, the security of Nassau. Eleanor is a character who in truth... wanted everything, in a way. She was born into civilization but grew up on a pirate island, and was raised as a pirate. She therefore has this freedom in her, this freedom and this desire to fight which pushed her to challenge men, who pushed her to take more than what her position as a woman allowed her to take, because this mode of thought, the thought of piracy, taught her at a very young age that she could take what she wanted and say what she wanted, as long she's ready to fight for it. At this point, Eleanor was very pirate and had that freedom in her that Vane talks about. BUT... because of this freedom, her mother was killed. And that resulted in her father then abandoning her. Because of the freedom of piracy that Vane defends, Eleanor lost her mother and somehow her father, and that to, I think, anchored a fear in her that pushed her all her life to want a Nassau who benefited both the freedom that piracy offered (and which enabled her, as a woman, to have as much power), but also to have the security that civilization could bring, stability. At the end of the show, however, in season 3/4, Eleanor begins to realize that she cannot have both and she makes the compromise to sacrifice her freedom for the benefit of security, unlike Vane who chose his freedom instead of safety, instead of his life. I do not think, however, that we can blame Eleanor for this choice, it comes from a trauma from her childhood and she did not have the same experiences as Vane, she was not a slave and therefore did not the same relationship with freedom, for him, freedom is more important than everything, but for Eleanor, security came first. But Eleanor's problem is that it does not realize how hypocritical civilization is and in reality provides no security at all, absolutely none. She never had a chance to see this, but the fact that she died because of Rogers, who is the face of civilization in Black Sails, brings back to the fact that Eleanor made the choices that end to destroyed her and somewhere, deep inside, I think it is willed. As journalist Lauren Sarner said about her, "Her death holds an extra tragic tinge because while Gates, Miranda, Vane and Teach all died standing up for what they believed in, Eleanor’s capacity for self-delusion lasts until her final breath. Flint’s lie about Rogers’s culpability in the Spanish raid is an act of love, but in in true Eleanor fashion, instead of appreciating the love coming from someone in front of her (Max, Vane and finally Flint), she’s spending her energy on someone who doesn’t deserve it (Richard Guthrie, Rogers).". And that's true. She made compromises, but the bad compromises and deep down inside her, I think all she did, repel the people who really loved her for the benefit of people who didn't love her, because deep inside, Eleanor didn't think she deserved to be loved and she recognized herself more in the eyes of person who hated her, and it was more easy for her to deal with these kind of people than with people who loved her. Oh sure, I'm still open to debate! Eleanor is my favorite character with Charles and I like to explain why I love her and why she is complex, and I know Black Sails on my fingertips lol

@@MissEleanorVane i belive she was trying to prove that she was worthy of the love of her father, and to prove that she was capable to rule and bring civilization to the Island, but she was trying to bring an idea that she didnt understand, she had never been to a big City, she spent her life living with pirates pretending to know better, but she was lost, she had a very foggy vision of what she truly wanted, because she didnt knew anything else. And even when she got married, she continued to make plans behind her husband back. The reason not even max could for give her, is because she never learned, and when she learned about the secret life of her butler, she knew that she was completly alone because no one really trusted her. When she felt betrayed when her father was killed, it was nothing but the tantrum of a little girl that didnt know what to do on her own. In the end i think that the vision she had was shattered, and thats why she wanted to leave with her husband, there was nothing left on the Island for her at that Point. @@josealigueri1570 Oh yes, she was definitely trying to prove that, but I really think that deep down, having been rejected so young by her father made her think that she didn't deserve to be loved, even if she wasn’t necessarily aware of that. For once, the plans she made behind the back of Rogers, I think it is mainly her pirate part which was restarting, this part in her that she tried to kill when she killed Vane ( Hannah New has very good words about it), but which will remain in her anyway, until the end. She was a pirate and she will remain so, even if she has to fight this, towards the end. However, I do not think at all that it was what she felt towards the end, nor that it was a whim of a little girl who did not know what to do with herself because even if Eleanor made a lot mistakes, the men around her are not innocent either, Scott still lied about the death and life of people she loved (even if he had very good reasons to do so) and knowing that she had just lost her mother is not something to be taken lightly. As for her father... it's more like a shattered dream. I have a very similar relationship with my father than Eleanor has with his, and I know how complicated the feelings we can have, but if I lost my father, I would surely be as furious than she was, because blood ties ... are sometimes indisputable. For me too, the fact that Eleanor wants to leave at the end has nothing to do with the fact that she thinks she has nothing more to do there. For me, it is for her child that she wants to leave, because it is only when she finally accepts the idea that she is pregnant that she makes the decision to do what it takes to leave Nassau, because in the end, in her eyes, only her child was perhaps more important than Nassau for her. I sent you a friend request! :)

I love her so much and I hate that they made her a traitor. I hoped so bad she was just lying to the governor, but when Vane died, I realized she wasn't. But still, I couldn't stop loving her. And in 4x06, when Flint told her "You were a pirate once" and she was beginning to understand what Rogers did with the Spanish, I really thought she was going to change again, and then they killed her off. I think it was such a big mistake. It would have been way more interesting to see her becoming the queen she was before, working with Flint again! Even if she died fighting to save Madi (which was still an honorable death), I think they killed her off just for the Governor to suffer from the consequences of his alliance with Spain. I would have prefer him having to suffer from Eleanor's betrayal, but well, it never happened, obviously. She still could have died at the end, this would have been epic and tragic, but at least, she would have fight against Rogers!

I like your ideas lol. ! Especially the one to see Eleanor fight Rogers at the end and defeat him! It would have been very satisfying to see. Unfortunately, I think it was just not possible anymore. Vane's death has destroyed her far more than we think. Hannah New, who plays Eleanor, said that a huge part of Eleanor died by killing Vane. A too big part, which prevented her from surviving to the end. And that Eleanor did not realize what she did to herself by killing Vane. It's not really a traitor, in truth. She is someone who has self-destructive behavior. She destroyed herself. With each of her decisions. To continue to lie to herself. Eleanor is a tragedy, really. And she will always break my heart for that.

For me Black Sails is the best show that exists, not only for Eleanor even if she is my favorite character with Vane, but I totally understand that you only watch the show for her, because this queen deserves it! I felt exactly the same when I saw her die, although to be honest, I was a little relieved because it's horrible, but I'd rather see her die than see her end up with Rogers... because it was honestly my worst nightmare and the worst end imaginable for Eleanor, to me at least. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting! :)

But there was still so much potential for her character! And I was just bummed that we never got to see any of that. I didn't even watch the next episodes haha, I just couldn't

Did you notice her tear when she was dead, while the governor grieved over her? That made an impression on me. I dreamed about it. I think it was very sad when she died, even she got enemies because her relation with Woodes Rogers. Maybe she tried to control him that way, in hope of achieving peace and justice in Nassau? It didn't really work, but I think that was her intention...

Yes I know it was not just a dream, we all saw it, and then I thought about it, also half awake when I was waking up. It seem like Rogers really loved her, right? But she didn't really love him? She was with him to have influence on him, in hope of saving people in Nassau? But she loved Vane and he loved her. That love was special, the love of a lifetime, at the level of their souls. Their souls were connected, right? They were one? In the afterlife they were united again. It's a nice thought.

Rogers and Eleanor did the same thing: lie to themselves. They do not know each other and do not really love each other, only the perfect image they have of each other. Rogers love Eleanor's well-worn vision of sewing and staying behind, but every time the real, strong, independent Eleanor came forward, he condemned her actions and judged her behavior as insidious, for example. Eleanor, for her, loved the idealized and non-existent version of well-civilized Rogers that reminded her of her father. And she refused to see the monster in him, real. The whole story of Rogers and Eleanor is made of lies and illusion, not love. I think she really loved Vane and Max too, but these are feelings she never confessed to herself. Never really. She herself broke the chance of being happy and took herself to death in a very tragic way. Now, I think she's with Vane, in peace, having finally realized who Rogers was in death and knowing that Max is safe. That's my point of view :)

Those who post this kind of comment, continue your journey because you are wasting your time here, all your comments will be DELETED. I do not tolerate hate or sexism or mysoginist in my channel. This video is made by a WOMAN and by someone who LOVES Eleanor. EDIT : Even three years after, I still have some comments hateful against Eleanor. I loved her character so much and people who usually hates her just don't understand her character she was always a victim. A victim of her father cruelty and misbelieve she always wanted to prove herself to him, a victim of flint obsession with the gold and all she sacrificed for it, a victim of vane personal interest, betrayal for killing her father and using max as a slave knowing how important she was to Eleanor (tho he and max were the only ones who loved her truly and wanted a future with her) a victim to scott who used her as a cover while helping his own people and a victim to Rogers to get rid of the pirates no matter the cost, there was always a man using her for his own personal gain ofc she is no Saint she fucked her lover as well but for someone who grow up in place like that with no love nor trust its understandable SHE DESERVED BETTER

MissEleanorVane what did you think of eleanors death?

  • @MissEleanorVane

    @MissEleanorVane

    7 жыл бұрын

*Maria Johnson* I think it's perfect. I have long been tormented by the lack of understanding of the Rogers / Eleanor relationship. But the end helped me understand why she was with him and the words of Hannah New also. She does not love Rogers. She does not know him. She loves only a lying and idealized version of him. And all their relationship was only a lie, until the end. And the death of Eleanor is perfect. Very intense, destructive, it breaks the heart but she dies fighting fiercely. By killing a man. By protecting Madi, which makes me proud of her. She dies in the same way as her mother, killed in a Spanish raid, which is tragically poetic. She died of her own mistakes because she chose to marry Rogers, which means that it was this lie that she created that eventually killed her. And she dies in the arms of Flint, on the side of the pirates, with him who represented her only real paternal figure. That's wonderful. And the fact that Flint is lying to him is touching. She dies in her lie. Even though I know that deep down, she knows the truth. But it was too hard to accept.

MissEleanorVane agreed. She went out with a huge BANG!!! She died hard ! Just like charles did ..Rogers was married to someone else and had children by someone else . So if that was the case then he couldn't have been married to eleanor . She would be just his mistress . I think that she came to realize that rogers was lying to her and just playing games on her to get Nassau from her and that Charles vane was right all along and that she should've listened to him instead of killing him. Nope her and rogers never loved each other. The love of her life she let him die in season three episode 309 cause she was angry with him for more personal reasons and I think she regretted that decision ever since. Rogers was a distraction from all the problems that she had to deal with .. once a pirate always will be no matter what .
