I used to come home from work, have my tea and then put my feet up and watch this with my late Mum. We loved it!

This was an absolute gift to the late Victoria Wood as so beautifully parodied in The Mall.

I was do sad they didn't continue this. It had so much potential. So glamourous compared to the dreary streets. It brought a little sunshine to my life back in the early nineties. The eighties had gone and something had died inside me. After the show discontinued I spiralled into depression. I began a collection of small china elephants (or plastic or whatever I could get hold of) but it wasn't enough. Even though I amassed nearly 800 which must of been a record.

Guerilla I couldn't agree with you more. Whoever devised this collection of characters and interacted them the way they did was a sheer genius..

Absolutely. The dynamic interplay between characters and gripping storylines made this a classic.

I had many wonderful holidays in Eldorado. Was a great place. Snowy was a bit of a pest at times though.

Fun fact: these early episodes were storylined by Tony Holland and scripted by Tony Jordan. Seven years earlier this duo had created the 'Dirty Den serves divorce papers on Ange' episode of EastEnders: the highest rated drama episode ever televised in Britain. So how could Eldorado fail?

These early episodes were dire but the writing and storylines got much better and they binned all the crap non actors. Was sad they killed it as it was finding its feet.

I had to dip back into this to see if it was as good as I remember it was; pleased to say that my memory served me correctly and the Beeb made a big error axing it, not least after spending untold suitcase(s) full of license payers money in building the filming set. Too close to the truth for the British telly watching and holidaying public, and consequent falling ratings meant it was always doomed to be consigned to the dustbin of TV history. If it was a choice, for me, over keeping this or getting rid of Eastenders, it would always be the former for me.

El Dorado was dreadful to the point of being funny - why it was so easy to parody for Victoria Wood in "The Mall". So many of the actors were totally inexperienced and incredibly wooden. The scripts and dialogue were often terrible. The vision for the show became confused and diluted - it was originally due to be called "Little Britain" (yup!) focussing solely on dysfunctional English people in Spain, but the original idea was altered before production because they felt it wouldn't work, and changes were made, turning into almost like some kind of soap version of "Going for Gold". EastEnders had the benefit of having some very experienced actors to support it in the early days, and solid production and scripts.

The continuity problem, where Bunny somehow changed from his suit into the same clothes he was wearing in the day time from the restaurant to the bar a few steps away and then for some reason changed back into his suit to go home lol. How do these people make any money to survive on?

Jeez this was a lot worse than I remember.. terrible acting, sound problems, the script is hilarious and the absolute WORST storyline to kick a new show off with, some dirty old man marrying what looks like his grand-daughter....
