This is very reliable. This list is from the RIAA. Michael is ranked 7th in the US and ranked 3rd worldwide behind Elvis and The Beatles.

For everyone is extremely confused, keep in mind that this list applies to the United States. Across the whole world, Michael Jackson is #3, and Garth Brooks isn't even in the top 10. Country music artists often only see success in United States (especially the Western part), which is why many European viewers probably wouldn't recognize Garth Brooks.

FBE you should be more specific, this is Top 10 music artists album sales in the US. You didn't even include US single sales and worldwide album+single sales. This list would look completely different with their worldwide totals added up.

What I’ve found after going after comments and comments is it is based on US sales only. I found an article to calculate US sales only for the top selling artists of all time and am about to put my calculator to work to fact check this. Because Freddy Mercury doesn’t deserve this blasphemy.

Completely wrong. This list is the biggest selling artist in the history of the U.S. They used a list by Business Insider where it clearly states it's US records sold. This can be clearly seen by Garth Brooks being at number 2. More accurate list can be found on Wiki which uses global records sold.

Johann O It's not from business insider, it's from the RIAA, and if you look at the list it's based on album sales. Madonna has more singles sold, which pushes her # higher. But Garth Brooks pushed her out of the way with album sales forever ago. He's also the Best Selling Solo Artist of all Time and has been for a while.

MohraShef Worldwide count also the US sales. 90% of Elvis sales are from the us and the uk same with the Beatles, while with MJ his sales are international. And MJ was not prolific, compare how much material he released to that of Elvis and you’ll see. The fact that he’s third worldwide is incredibly impressive.
For people saying Michael Jackson should top the list, the Beatles has sold the most units of all time. Google it. List isn’t based on popularity but units.

Yeah, but excluding a country of the world wouldn't make sense if you want to know which artist sells a lot. Garth Brooks sold an enormous amount of records, just mainly in the US. But that doesn't make him less successful.
