It’s prolly because ESO is in a pretty crappy spot with ZOS nerfing everything, and making abilities have terrible animations. I know a lot of people doin that, including me.

Lack of new content. People got tired of Starfield fast, and domt care about it anymore for the most part. So they turn to older games for their fix. I myself started playing Morrowind a few weeks ago, New Vegas a few days ago and am itching for a little Oblivion, maybe. The fact each game in the FO/ES franchises has its own feel to it also helps, games dont get outdated by newer releases (like cod or assassins creed series for example)

Morrowind is currently in it's Golden Age. Because of Tamriel Rebuilt getting better and better, as well as Morrowind Script Extender and DarkElfGuys' continued championing of really compelling Modding Competitions. There's never been a better time to play, Morrowind is more Morrowindy because very talented lovers of the game have put in the WORK to bring concepts made by the og devs to life decades after the official release.

As an atronach you can just use a reduce intelligence spell or potion on self and after its effects wear off, your magica will be full again. Casting golden saints into lava then casting soul trap on them as long as you have the appropriate soul gem can help you rack up a serious amount of gold. Most vendors will not be able to buy it but the unique mud crab vendor will. With the amount of tutorials online, you can make anything work, playing as a heavy swordsman but struggling go and get the fist of randagulf.

Thank you for making Morrowind accessible for me, I've enjoyed my time with Bethesda RPGs after watching this video. My Redguard casually walked up to Dagoth Ur at about level 35, after maxing out all attributes but Luck, and pretty much no skill yet, and casually slew his first form, getting himself in an inescapable situation in the heart chamber, where I was forced to load a save from before the heart chamber and actually try to do the main quest line, completing the main quest at level 59. This is the best guide I've ever watched, and certainly brought me the most enjoyment out of any video as a consequence of me watching it. I had sworn off any Bethesda RPGs after failing at Oblivion in 2006, but this video made it clear to me that there's a lot of fun to be had with these games, so I went back and played Morrowind with OpenMW, thanks to your video, and started Skyrim SE right afterwards. I even dared plunge back into Oblivion, armed with the knowledge of how Bethesda RPGs work in general, made a "backwards" class with the skills I would use the least, and my Breton is now running around Cyrodiil at level 6, slaying things, looting poisoned apples from a strange cave with a hand sign, and getting rich while avoiding the oblivion gates spawning everywhere for some reason. I even dipped my toe into Daggerfall (with the Unity-based engine), thanks to another one of your videos. Looking forward to The Wayward Realms one day. Again, I can't thank you enough for making gaming interesting again for me, in my 40s. Thank you, sir!

Natural Character Growth and Decay definitely made the game for me. I wanted to play as an Imperial that specs into both Mercantile and Speechcraft but also uses Longswords and Heavy Armor and I found myself racking up tons of dirty levels as I was mainly leveling up with Mercantile and Speechcraft. Not having to think about how much I've raised X attribute per level made the game much more intuitive for me.

The issue with NCGD is that there's is no feeling of progression/accomplishment, when I use it, I miss my sweet dopamine rush from the level up screen. Morrowind leveling system is weird because you think you have to minmax, but in reality you don't need to since there is no really scaling ennemies like in Oblivion. You can perfectly beat the game having only x2 or even some x1 stats multiplicators each level. If you're too bothered with the x1, just train some skills each time you pass a town to guaranty at least some x2 and you're golden

  • @headwindshield

    @headwindshield

@@kokojackI could've definitely avoided a lot of headache if I had realized how convenient trainers are in my early hours. Nowadays attribute growth is a no brainer, just run into the next guild hall and find a trainer who can level up the skill in question. I should def give Morrowind another shot without NCGD, to get a more "vanilla" experience. I mean, I'm using trainers to raise attributes even with NCGD installed, so my gameplay is already pretty close to how someone would play it vanilla.

Even though I've been playing Morrowind since 2002, it's still interesting to hear fresh takes in beginner-friendly guides; so many wildly different opinions and most are justified. Hell, I'd never even heard of the Morrowind Advanced or Affresh mods. Seems really cool. For new players that would like to see more content in one save file, there's a criminally underrated mod called Join All Houses, and it does just that; it lets you join and complete each of the three, and have each of their strongholds. In terms of the game's fast travel, you should definitely complete the Master Index main plugin ASAP on a new file. You can also get Multiple Mark mods that will allow you to teleport to more than one location via Recall. The last one is more of a quality of life improvement that I don't exactly recommend it for new players, unless you absolutely must have more fast travel options.

stealth is very bad in morrowind even with mods that supposedly fix it. pickpocketing is totally broken in vanilla and it does not work at all. you would need to sit there for ages save scumming until you finally see single item in npc inventory, and then pray to rng gods that you manage to steal the item

i learned english as a kid while playing morrowind with a dictionary by my side. still coming back to it at least once a year for a fresh playthrough. its so immersive world and story. bethesda later forgot about morrowind.... and how there was never sense of urgency in doing any single quest until you complete like 2/3 of main story. it entices you to explore and do side content.... when oblivion starts it instantly urges you to quickly bring amulet of kings to jofrey. then quickly go find and save martin. then quickly go find this and that before mythic dawn. etc... if you are roleplaying you would never do anything else but run from one main quest to another. you cannot come up with a role playing reason to not go to next quest market of your main quest and ignore everything else. because that is of up most importance to save the world... in morrowind one of the first things that main quest giver says to you is to go join some guild and train your skills. literally tells you off to go do side content because you suck.

Nice guide! I always recommended The Lady for new players, and would roll with it myself just so I wouldn't worry so much about health gain per level, and it helps a bit with the whole "everyone hates the player" early game that puts some off of the game, but a flat 50 attribute points across the board is very OP. Also, on my first playthroughs being hated by everyone at the start stuck with me and I really should encourage others to see it through if they feel they can as it really makes the whole experience hit different in a way that feels intentional. And, well, yeah. Good stuff! I do hope some people give it a go, as is always the case. I've not seen a single player game's player base go so hard towards trying to help onboard newcomers quite as much as Morrowind's, especially given its age. Occasionally people may come to the conclusion that we're hardcore elitist snobs for sticking with it, but I disagree. We always tell people that they should avoid doing certain things, but it's not really from a place of gatekeeping. God mode is only a console command on PC/Cheat code on Xbox away, but it delivers only a short term power fantasy that feels hollow. If one sticks with it, well, becoming powerful is basically inevitable, and with a character following this guide one should be able to take on just about anything aside from higher level foes that are specifically meant to scare people off until they come back stronger. Quicksave is very versatile as well. And hey, no one is saying to never use mods. It's just, well, once you sink your teeth into the game and get a feel for how it plays, how the various systems interact, then one can better understand exactly what they're installing. You can only play through Morrowind for the first time once, and how each person goes about it is up to them. Myself and many others just hope new players give it a go, and have fun while avoiding common pitfalls.

There's one most hilarious thing about the bartering system. Gold is basically a regular item, meaning it occupies space in your inventory (but doesn't weigh anything), which in turn means... you can sell it. For gold. And if your trading skill is high enough, you can trade gold for more gold.

I minmaxed the hell out of my current character as I had never done so before. And min-maxing certainly is tedious. Not worth the hassle if you ask me. "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a video game" very much applies to min-maxing in morrowind. The only thing I would have liked to see added to the video was an explanation on the diegetic fast travel system of morrowind. Especially that two certain spells are very, very handy. Mark and Recall. No need to say where to get them, just giving new players somewhat of an out of game sidequests to be on the lookout for those spells.

If you're going for a magic-user with the Atronach birthsign, I recommend making a 'Restore Magicka' spell rather than attacking the Ancestor Ghost and waiting for the absorb effect to kick in. Simply buy a spell with a Drain Attribute effect, open the Spellmaking tab and select 'Drain Attribute' and then 'Intelligence' in the list. Adjust that to cast on Self with a Magnitude of 100 for 1 second. That will replenish your magicka bar to full, instantaneously. Of course, that comes at the cost of depleting your INT to 0, but there are workarounds. This is, no doubt, an exploit. But what would Morrowind be without the exploits? But seriously, if you're roleplaying, say, an Altmer or a Breton mage born under the Atronach, you have to ask why in Magnus' good name are there no intellectuals smart enough to have 'Restore Magicka' spells in their magically-attuned cultures to make up for the downsides in their birthsigns? No sophisticated Altmer mage would stoop to the level of conjuring and attacking their ancestor spirits for this kind of crude magicka regeneration. Anyway, this exploit exists on pure vanilla. I wouldn't be surprised if one of these patches erased it.

As someone whose first character was an Atronarch Breton I was a bit surprised. The only criticism I would have expected is that it trivializes the mid to late game because you become basically impervious to magic. And early game mages are much more reliable than fighters anyway since you can just craft your spells to have high success rate,

And then to think, people criticize Oblivion for the level-scaling that constrains the "trivializing" mid-late game by making enemies damage-sponges. 😆

I would love a History of The Elder Scrolls Part 3: Morrowind. The Daggerfall video is what inspired me to start playing that game, and I still watch it occasionally to this day.

Morrowind will always be my favorite game. The reason it was so fun is because of the crazy amount of options for a build. And yes, the brokenness of the game is also what made it so fun.

Got into morrowimd a year ago and played the absolute shit out of it and it’s definitely one of my favorites of all time. Glad this is here now I can go back and make an even better character. Not to say my old one wasn’t. Made a dark elf long blade heavy armor spell sword that had all kinds of great magiks. Levitation got my around vivec city so much easier

Beautiful as always. I think we actually really need guide like this for Skyrim, considering how much Anniversary Edition messed the original experience with both free and paywalled "mods" and after a lot of the real mods from nexus were converted (or should i say consolizationed? xd) into something more similar to these official, cross-platform addons. Also, many once must-have mods died or gained better alternatives, good modding guides got old and most of the newer ones focuses on turning Skyrim into 4k ultra hd shitty dark souls clone. Damn, i feel old

Pick security, speechcraft, and sneak as main skills, go to Vivec, find the Hlaalu vaults, find the keys, rob them, go to Caldera, sell everything to Creeper, rinse and repeat. Bonus points for getting Mark and Recall spells from the Balmora temple for easier movement between Creeper and the vaults.
