Fromsoft games have garnered a certain reputation, and their games are seen as nothing more than “the hard games”. Nothing more than a challenge to overcome for the sake of bragging rights. The playerbase is way too big to expect that, those who know anything about what’s going on are the tiny minority. Even among those that do know, a lot of players are still confused and trying to piece everything together(such as myself)if not just straight up lost. That’s just a consequence of Fromsoft’s storytelling. People are used to being told stories with everything laid out for them, being shown every single event that happens. The 99% won’t ever think to look at an item description, and they’d definitely never think that item descriptions could hold relevant narrative information. And to be clear, I’m not throwing flak at anyone who doesn’t know what’s going on. I’m just pointing out that this is simply the way it is.

The SICKEST boss cinematic I think I’ve ever seen. The snake eye inches away from your face in the beginning gave me CHILLS bro. And the second phase with his eye missing and the snake coiled up in his socket, oh my god I lost my mind. 10/10 game I swear.

The best part about Messmer beating the life out of us are his snakes looking at us like :3

After beating the dlc I can definitely look back and say this is my favorite fight in the whole game. Messmer is the full package as both a boss and a character. Mechanically he’s fun to fight because despite how hard and aggressive he is, he never feels unfair. I never raged much fighting him because it was satisfying to learn his kit and the fight is just really fun overall. The presentation, atmosphere, and ost are fantastic. And lore wise he is actually a perfect foil to Miquella. All the trailers made Messmer look like a diabolical, genoocidal psychopath whose actions were so evil that he was erased from history. But in game he’s actually a pretty chill dude who was well liked and inspired loyalty from the people around him, Radahn even looked up to him as a big brother. When one of his black knights betrays him, Messmer doesn’t torture or kill him like you’d expect a villian would, he instead just imprisons him and mourns the loss of a brother at arms. He even has an entire clinic in his castle for treating and trying to cure the shaman jars. That same castle is built in a way that protects and hides his mother’s village. It’s clear he only did evil things because Marika ordered him to, and it becomes really tragic that he was essentially abandoned by her and only realized it upon death. Between his strength, intelligence, and loyalty I have no doubt Messmer could have been one of the most revered demi gods if he was actually allowed to pursue his own ambitions, right up there with Radahn and Godwyn. He instead ends up dying alone and abandoned with no legacy to leave behind because he was erased from history. A fate that not even the omen brothers suffered. Meanwhile Miquella is said to be a beautiful kind hearted savior who in reality is a monster who only inspires loyalty because it’s literally his ability to enchant and manipulate people. He casts aside his humanity in order to become a god and he plans on enslaving everyone beneath him under a guise of love. God I love this game.

@@simran789654 My guess is that he didn’t leave simply because no one told him to. “My purpose standeth unchanged” that line and the tone in which he says it leads me to believe that Marika’s order that he lead crusades against the hornsent (and other creatures stripped of the grace of gold) was to be carried out indefinitely, and as-long as there was even a single one left, his goal was incomplete.

1:14 The boss fight hasn't even started and the dude already took damage.

I was so happy when the cut-scene happened at the halway point of the hp bar and not the end of it.

I might be the only one who thinks this but I think his second phase is significantly easier than the first. Idk it just has this sort of rhythm that I was able to latch on to quickly.

He was ironically enough the easiest boss for me. Very very telegraphed moves like nameless king level of telegraph, plus 80 strength and guts great sword were taking chunks out his health. Still loved his fight and the cut scenes were 10/10

A lot of Messmer's lines he cuts off his sentences halfway through so it sounds like he's just being pointed. What he's actually saying there is "I will not suffer...A lord devoid of light.". He's saying he refuses to allow you to become the elden lord because you're tarnished and not favored by the grace of gold. Ironic considering you're one of the only ones left who actually IS favored since you can see the graces.

honestly with the more human bosses i have a so much easier time than with the more monsterlike bosses like the dancing lion took me 90+ tries but i got messmer in like 9 idk maybe thats because u can actually see what the bosses are doing.

Totally can agree there. Dancing Lion, Scadutree Avatar and Bayel took me probably over 10 attempts each to defeat, but Messmer only took me two. The more humanoid bosses feel a lot easier to read for me, although Rellana took me several tries😅

It's mainly the camera I hated about the Bayle fight, although Bayle himself was really sick!

Bro, im on New Game Plus 5 at level 310 with 20 Scadutree Fragments and this boss is still one shotting me. Worst designed boss in FromSoft history honestly.

A hundred deaths and 2 hours just to get to phase 2? Holy shit Kai sucks at this.

@@greenrisingphoenix6110Fr I think I ended up taking 3 tries for Mesmer, 5 for Bayle, and like 20 for Radahn. Granted I know I’m probably better at the game than most people cause I have done lvl 1 for every souls game but I still feel like people are over complaining about how hard the dlc is. @@landonmartin8259 ive done level 1 for every formsoft game too and rellana, messmer and radahn all took me about 2 hours. I guess i was using a shit build, but for radahn i was doing 3500 damage per hit and still took forever

@@hades7087 No before i switched i had a shit build. Then i got dual messmer spears, golden vow, flame grant me strength, and blessing 20. After that he only took me like 30 minutes because I could stagger him at the start of phase 2 Its all about changing your build. Why would you waste 6 hours doing 700? You clearly didnt level your blessing cuz it doubles your damage

@@Khann_2102i’m not trying to be a dick but did you just speedrun the main bosses without listening to any dialogue? the npc’s explain that miquella is using mohg’s body to revive his consort, which is also heavily implied to be radahn at the point your reach shadow keep. i agree godwyn would’ve been an awesome boss, but his soul was completely destroyed by destined death, so there’s no way to get his soul back sadly

@@okay2111 I think people would've been completely fine with Radahn if he wasn't the final boss. And I just hate that Radahn is tied to this consort bs. They also pretty much wasted Miquella. We get no interactions with him at all. They could've even added a questline to try and help him do a 2nd eclipse to revive Godwyn. Or any Miquella questline would've been good. They also completely left out other important answers that everyone wanted to know. A lot of the dlc lore is disappointing simply cos there was much potential for more.

Ngl I do not like the VA change for Messmer, I really liked the gameplay trailer one

What disappoints me about this fight is that Messmer's health is so low. Y did they decide to give such low hp but then the more annoying bosses like Rellana and Gaius get way more? Fromsoft just makes so many stupid decisions with its games and I just question y? And they could've made him a little harder as well imo. He was difficult but not as much as I was hoping he'd be.

All the people using summons in this dlc make me laugh, its sad people dont enjoy the pain and gain of souls anymore really sad, took me about 50 tries on ng+7 to get messmer and maybe 60 for promised consort radahn with my dagger and parry shield and im only commenting this because that girl used a summon and said “sad we didnt get to see phase one much” people use no skill and get far and complain about seeing phases ? 😂😂
