Man. I feel bad for Radahn and, surprisingly, Mohg too. Miquella was decribed as the "cruelest of the empyreans," but Jesus Christ, with all we can glean from the new lore bits, he's just awful. So you're Miquella, right? You offer your half-brother to be your consort. Obviously, that's weird for many reasons, but there's a war going on, plus he's got his own sister to worry about too since she just severed her soul from her body, so he politely declines, but says he'll call you back in 1-1000 business years. So, do you take this rejection in stride and maybe find another strong consort candidate? No! You send your sister Malenia to kill him so you can yoink his soul and force him to. This not only backfires into almost getting *her* killed, but plagues a 5th of the continent with super-AIDS and doesn't even kill the guy you wanted dead because his great rune burns so hot it actually keeps the rot at bay. Coming off the back of that failure, what do you do next? Forcefully charm your other, weirder, half-brother Mohg who's been shunned by society into cutting you from your Haligtree (which you basically have now left to die) and have him drag you back to his palace and pour gallons of blood on you so you can access the shadow realm. You leave your sister behind to grieve because you're now gone, but hey, this is all to help The Lands Between, and cure her rot too right? You get to the shadow realm, set up shop, sever your kinder female half from yourself and leave her in the bottom of a pit somewhere off the coast, and find there really isn't much else to do. Years go by, you charm some more sorry saps, say hi to your other brother who got banished here forever ago, and kinda just continue to hang around. Even more time passes, and Radahn, despite the odds, is still kicking. Maybe you didn't think this through? Nah, it's fine as eventually some brave Tarnished of 0 renown comes along and actually kills Radahn, sweet! But not only that, they kill Mohg too, double sweet! So you yoink Mohg's less rotted body, sculpt it to look like a younger Radahn, and shove Radahn's soul in it. Only to then use it as a meat puppet with no free will to destroy any detractors of your new *"Age of Compassion,"* which you have so ironically named it. And do you offer this brave Tarnished a seat at the table for (though unknowingly) doing what your sister couldn't and helping your plan? No, you jump straight to murder and bewitching again obviously! And somehow, despite all of those outright vindictive and heinous acts, *you still think you're the good guy.* Miquella is Elden Ring's Handsome Jack.

​​​@@hot_soup4319yeah I can see why a lot of people think the history is disappointing (mostly because people actually think that is the real Radahn when in reality it's just a puppet with Radahn's soul in it). I think it fits perfectly in the history and only makes us know that Miquella was actually a freaking terrifying creepy being that manipulated everyone just so he can get godhood. I guess the only true "hero" that actually outsmarted everyone and got away with it is Ranni (hero because she made sure no other outer god can get to the Lands Between and gave everyone free will over their life), and I'm pretty sure her ending is canon, it's the only ending with an actual cutscene and her questline and lore are too important to ignore (also the tarnished gets laid with a doll, can't get more souls player than that)

I may dislike him, but Mohg will have his dignity returned.

@@daokoxd1145Radahn was on it. He made a vow to Miquella that he will be his consort for his new order Age of Compassion. But Radahn should die in order to be with Miquella and become a Lord. "A lord will usher in a god's return, and the lord's soul will require a vessel." So Radahn wanted an epic battle before getting reborn to the Lands of Shadow, and that’s why Miquella sent his “loyal blade” to kill Radahn. Malenia and Radahn locked in stalemate, so Malenia eventually uses her scarlet Aeonia to kill him, but Radahn survived because his great rune “burns to resist the encroachment of the Scarlet Rot”. The Tarnished then kills Radahn which indirectly helps Miquella to start his plans. Yes, this lore sounds awful which is why I’m so disappointed with this DLC. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it and it’s 8.5/10 but the final boss is very underwhelming and feels so forced. This DLC literally destroyed Miquella, Malenia, and Radahn’s character.

I think people are misunderstanding the DLC's lore a bit. Based on the item descriptions and ghost npcs you can talk to etc. It's more likely to assume Miquella set out on this journey with kind intentions and a gentle heart, trying to make the world a better place. However through abandoning his love, heart, flesh, everything, he became just like Marika in the end, barely human and willing to sacrifice everything to submit the world in his will. We can also understand that's why he wanted Radahn as a consort, so he can ascend into full godhood, and that's why he forced Malenia to fight Radahn in the first place.

Plausible, wasn't it stated that Miquella was cruelest of all empyreans, he had asked Radahn to be his consort which Melania knew. I'd say he had his plan in motion after the shattering. Hin severing his love was done knowningly, as in he knew what it will do, or so I'd say.

In my opinion, I'd say he jokingly said that he'd become his consort after his death. Melania thought she'd kill him with the scarlet rot, which is why she said what she said.

This being the final fight of the entire game makes me feel like something is missing. Maybe the story doesn't click with me but when I realized this is the final fight I was like "Is that all? You can see the contrast between his fight and Radahn's fight here. Godfrey chose Serosh to control his bloodlust, and his second form is the one where he 'lets loose' by tearing Serosh apart and returning to his true self. On the other hand, Radahn doesn't have a choice in this. Did he really choose Mohg body?... I hate Radahn, but seeing him in this state is truly pitiful. No wonder Freya thinks Jerren will not agree to retrieve Radahn.

🤨 The idea of bringing old character might suck, i agree, but all the items, the lore, foreshadowing, it all plays together fair and square, changing radahn for somebody else wouldnt really work, godwyns dead etc etc, calling it fanfiction 😂

I saw basically all the twists associated with Miquella coming, except for his selected consort being... Radahn? I get that it finally answers why Malenia marched Haligtree forces all the way across the continent to Caelid, but it just feels unsatisfying, confronting the same demigod twice. Would have been much cooler if Miquella was trying to use the bodies of his slain siblings (Godwyn, Mohg, Morgott, Radahn, Rykard) to construct a new, stronger body for himself, one that was powerful enough to bear the power of divinity. How cool would it have been, Miquella using moves and powers of the other Runebearers in addition to his own sorcery. And his main goal? To make YOU, the greatest among the Tarnished, his chosen consort. He already kind-of does this during his grab animation - all that would have been necessary was changing it up so that he wants a brainwashed Tarnished puppet to ride around, rather than any one of his siblings.

Interesting idea. I believe Miquella opposes you because you’re becoming Elden Lord of the old order or something (still recalling and processing the new lore). Still would’ve been neat if Miquella had his own questline where you side with him the whole DLC a la Ranni’s questline. There’s even what looks like a cutscene from the gameplay trailer that shows Miquella “restoring” the Scadutree that’s not present anywhere in the DLC unless a secret questline hasn’t been found or triggered yet.

Morgott might be the worst one. Hes defending an Order that is falling apart, a Greater Will that doesnt love him, just like it rejects many others. The Omen, the Nomads, the Albinaurics and many more. The Golden Order did a bunch of fucked up shit and the Erdtree is dying, yet Morgott incists on Defending it. Same. The whole map felt bit empty and bosses were tedious, but the ending was what really disappointed me the most. We could've had something epic for the finale and they went for lazy writing and shock value instead. Miquella even could've been the final boss, it would make more sense than this. :(

We got to the point where the boss fight turned into a fight against an epileptic attack from hundreds of bright flashes and AoE explosions in the arena, where you try to see at least something of what the boss is doing and calculate the timing. Very bad game design, plus I don't like that Radahn became the final boss.

Just off-rip, though, this should have been set up better in the base game for sure. Hell, I’d go as far as saying this feels like a failed marketing ploy or something. Like they saw how much people liked Radahn and slotted him in, in the place of Godwin despite some foreshadowing implying he would’ve been a better candidate for this set piece. It could also be that Miyazaki wrote himself into a corner with how “dead” he made Godwin, and didn’t want to cheapen the rune of death, but this concession was not worth that increase in consistency. Narrative has meaning beyond mechanics, and this lost a great deal of meaning in my eyes.

I feel like there few things that shouldve been done to improve this fight and make it much more memorable. Its not a bad boss, its alright id say but theres some things that definitely couldve made it a better spectacle/cooler fight. 1- Radahn's first phase shouldve had a little more gravity based moves honestly. And his movement at times looks a bit off otherwise its good enough. 2- Shouldve made some kind of support for your character on phase 2. As miquella comes to join the fight alongside radahn we shouldve had something as well to improve on the fight. Best way would be incorporate the endings we have choosen since most players wouldve already finished the game within the two years time given so according to the different endings we couldve had something like: Rannis ending - ranni comes and supports similarly just like miquella does for radahn inducing additional buffs or passive attacks on the side etc. Chaos ending- the frenzied flame grows to its strongest point allowing you the additional flame buffs/passive attacks where the frenzied flame attacks time to time or something like that If ending wasnt done or normal ending is done - The blessing of the erdtree guides you, additional buffs as well as minor erdtrees grow time to time passively healing you Goldmask ending- A potential perfect golden order based buff freely done allowing you to do passive additional holy dmg or actively reducing/debuffing miquellas holy attacks Dungeater ending- Debuffing the boss due to the pox of life as your defilement slowly erodes the boss extremely passively Fia's ending - godwyns influence spreads allowing passive damage being done to the boss (not massive damage) as well as buffing your character against holy damage Honestly radahn in this form as a boss was a cool idea, but not that cool as a final boss for the dlc. Few tweaks should've taken placeo

Ok, to be honest, I actually dont mind the final boss at all, with the whole Miquella is a parasite who manipulates others for his own benefit storyline, but people in the comments have GOT TO STOP coping and gaslighting others by saying that this was somehow a planned plot twist since the base game. Like yes, they are retroactively now trying to fit it together with new item decriptions, but the truth is there was an entire voiced Miquella game ending (with the same voice actress credited btw) datamined in the base game, and it had ZERO hint of a Radahn relationhsip, and neither did any of the items, locations or lore. So that at least show that in some early stage of the games development, this wasnt part of the story. When and how that changed is debatable, but peple saying BUT ITS MYAZAKI & GRRM PLAN FROM THE START are simply wrong.

To be honest, I'm not a super lore expert in terms of Elden Ring, but I played it because of the plot, world, and characters in general. Yeah, I love the gameplay, but it’s not why I love From's games. With this context, I have to say that I spent a lot of time watching videos about the lore in general, reading item descriptions, and making my own hypotheses. And as you said, I can’t fit this idea of Radahn. Maybe it's a super hidden plot twist from Miyazaki and GRRM’s heads, but I don’t know... this feels weird to me. The DLC is has peak visuals, exploration, the boss fights and enemies are cool ... it just that now I think the writting of the plot twists is not their strong suit and that its bordering on fanficky, if that makes sense. we dont know what exactly miqellas goal is tho. His Haligtree still shows that he wants an age of compassion, where no one is left from Grace and Love. I think that along the way, Miquella did horrible stuff to achieve his Goal. At the various Crosses throughout the DLC he discards many things, one of those being his Love. So im guessing along this path he lost his old self and became what he is now. St. Trina also tells you that Divinity will be Miquellas Cage, and that you should kill him before he turns into a God

I struggled with this boss for like 16 hours but on my winning attempt it took me 30 seconds to kill him💀

@@zrixhi frenzyflame perfume bottle with rolling sparks, fire scorpion ritual shield cracked tear perfumers talisman and oil soaked tear. If you free aim the aow at their feet the damage gets into the 7000 for one cast

Radhan was my favorite in the Base Game. Hot take but im happy to fight him again.

fight is a spectacle although I would've liked the final fight of the dlc to have been something different given elden ring has rich lore and they could've made something completely new instead.

Easiest boss I’ve beaten in a video game! Only took me 12 hours and 100+ attempts!

I'm actually forever going to be hard stuck on this fight. First phase is completely fine. But then I get to 2nd, I can barely see the screen because I'm being flash banged, I can't roll attacks because when I do successfully there is always a holy damage AOE behind me. Am I just really bad? I haven't had that much trouble with a boss in ages, bosses like Messmer took me a good 10 tries to get down and dodge just fine. With Radahn, I can just get him to phase 2, and I never feel like I'm progressing or learning.

Yeah no that's a really broken boss. apparently, from videos I saw there is a strategy to make him less painful and stay out of light beams if you're close to him, but there is no way I could learn that myself alone

Surprisingly enough this video did not give me hope of defeating them... watching that Phase 3 laser shenanigans just made me want to go fight Gael again. Update: I beat them last night. Holy hell I'm done for now...

Agreed, had immediate improved success when I stopped bringing in Ansbach and just dueled him alone.

Does anyone else get Ganondorf vibes from Radahn, especially this fight?

This DLC was the absolute worst thing Fromsoft has ever done to their games lorewise. I'd be much less disappointed if it was only two or three bosses based around Messmer and nothing else, leaving Miquella as what it was in the base game, rather than whatever this is.

Some tips for this bossfight: Blind spot (on backhand blades or chakrams) is amazing, it allows you to full on damage Radahn mid swings in his combos, treat it like a dodge roll and you'll get amazing results. Lord's divine fortification for second phase is worth everyting. Just put it on while Radahn charges the big initial AoE blast and you'll take like 300 damage maximum Vow of the indomitable for the nuke works alright, I couldn't for the love of me figure out a different way.

IDK why but the fight doesnt look like a final boss fight to me, especially the arena , it looks kinda underwhelming compared to caelid arena. IMO Bayle and mesmer look more like a final boss fight than this.

​@@TheSectricIf you played lots of Elden Ring, you'll see how no other arena encapsulates this heavenly, godly feeling, with the clouds and the godrays coming out of the sky, it's unique to say the least an eye that is familiar to this game

Cool fight and definitely better than the leaks, but it’s underwhelming that Radahn is the final boss and I don’t like how Miquella’s story is concluded. I think the story around Miquella, especially the ending is really bad. I don't understand why they went with the whole Radahn consort bullshit. Radahn was a character that already had a complete story arc that was both epic and tragic. He really didn't need to be brought back and I think it cheapens his character for no good reason. If I'm being honest it feels like a writer at Fromsoft just took a personal ship of theirs and forced it into the story just because. RadahnxMiquella literally had no build up in the base game and Miquella was more concerned with Malenia and Godwyn, even referring to Godwyn as “Lord Brother” in Golden Epitaph description. It’s honestly disappointing that Miquella just ended up being an incestual weirdo that just wants to marry his brother. Miquella, Radahn, and Malenia all became less interesting after the DLC.

Radahn didn't have a full story arc though. We know nothing about radahn's motive in the elden ring. Why does he stop stars? Why is he fighting for elden ring parts? Why is maleia fighting him? We only know him as general and fighter but nothing about his intentions and personality. Even godwyn has a more complete story.

So just to point this out RadahnxMiquella is not canon, Miquella is literally brainwashing Radahn to serve him as a consort. Secondly the dlc answered plot holes is Radahn's story arc like why would he a golden order devotee steal a great rune? Because he realized the order was corrupt and needed to be stopped. Why did he hold stars which govern fate in place thus preventing change? To defend Ranni from the greater will and its avatar for her scheme to undue the order. Why was Malenia sent to kill Radahn? So Miquella could manipulate his soul and turn him into his Consort (the Elden Lord). Why does Miquella want Radhan to be his Consort (Elden Lord)? Because Radahn is a kind-hearted and noble warrior whose strength and character could unite the lands between bringing forth the age of compassion.

​@HerMi.T The base game literally said Radahn stopped the stars to protect Sellia. And both Malenia and Radahn fought over control. It's stated multiple times in the game that the demigods fought each other for power because they got corrupted by their Great rune. Radahn's story was complete. Godwyn's story has no conclusion and you're delusional if you say that. Miquella literally wanted to grant him a true death and the Finger Crone reader also says Godwyn should die a true death. There's buildup for Godwyn, but there's no build up for RadahnXMiquella. This awful pairing feels like it was written by someone that likes Yaoi.

Should have been godwyn, tbh. Miquella attempting to revive godwyn was already set up in the base game. Even ignoring that, bringing radahn back just feels lazy. I didn't want to believe the leaks. Everything about this, from lore to gameplay, sucks. But here we are i guess.

I'm pretty sure godwyn's soul is done with(looking at how they drew half the rune of death on him and half on ranni), also seems like the "reviving" didnt go as planned on castle sol and the eclipse event. As much as i hate to say this sadly theres just a cursed corpse left of him...

I genuinely don't understand why they reused Radahn of all the characters. They literally just turned a random meme fuel boss from the base game into the final boss of the DLC with almost no justification at all storywise.

It makes sense tho even if a little rushed: Miquella wanted a consort and he wanted radahn, his HALF BROTHER to be that consort. Obviously radahn rejects the offer, miquella goes mad and sends malenia to kill him, he survives tho so he brainwashes mogh into kidnapping him and sending him to the realm of shadow, then we arrive and kill both so miquella uses moghs body and radhan soul to create a puppet that will become his real consort

Man it sucks you need to go back to broken builds or mimic tears to enjoy this game. Could be a skill issue but I've beaten every Souls game, all bosses and DLCs and never thought I needed broken builds like bleed, but with Elden Ring the tiniest enemies kill you in two hits.

@@MegaRandomFactory I feel like bossfights in eldenring are artificially harder. they deal too much dmg and the attacks arent really well telegraphed. seems to me like the player character is too strong with cheese builds and actually learning the moveset of the bosses is just not worth it.

i don't understand why so many are under the impression that radahn was forced to become his consort when he himself agreed to it as stated by the boss name and the cutscene, miquella is literally asking him to be his consort if they (miquella and malenia) honor their vow... the vow was honored and radahn fulfilled his part of the agreement... miquella isn't the type of bad guy the fans seem to believe now... he really wanted the world to be a gentle place, but lost everything in the process, even himself which just makes him a tragic and complex gray character

If Radahn was honoring his part of the agreement, it makes no sense why Malenia was sent by Miquella to kill Radahn. He may have agreed at first but it’s heavily implied he changed his mind for whatever reason and was defying Miquella.
