Doesn't this mean that he is good and Melina is bad because she is being controlled by an outside entity? also our war is aginst radgan and marika which mean that the golden order is bad? no!

Maybe those that glimse the true nature of the cosmos gain the ability to transcend their bodies? Sellen mastered the the mysteries of the crystals and their connection to the Carrian dieties. Shabriri glimpsed the primarodial chaos which is the Frenzied flame. Perhaps Hyetta was also a scholar of sorts. Some scholar that has dissapeared somewhere within the world withou a trace only to return the same way Shabriri did.

One thing I'd like to add here is that when you talk to Kalé at the Church of Elleh, he tells you about his people - the merchants found around the game. The one thing I’ll say about the merchants (not a correction but just something to possibly add) is that the ones who are out and about in the world were most likely not let go. There is a hidden tunnel leading to the deep root depths, the ones you see in the world most likely escaped through that and then much later on Shabriri was found to be guilty of slandering but by then it was too late as the merchants in the shunning ground had already succumbed to the frenzied flame and lost their wits. I almost bet that some of the merchants are in very discreet locations because they still believe they’ll be hunted Edit: Plus it makes a lot of sense that they escaped given that if you attack the merchants they will use frenzied flame... Shabriri himself might have been an unwitting pawn. He was a scholar and so when he read the shield imprint found in the tomb of an ancient god, he became its finger reader as the three fingers had none and the shield description states that the three fingers or the "readerless fingers" as they are called, spread their messages through their imprint as found in the shield which shabriri read and went mad. The flame of frenzy itself might have been an outer god like the greater will and the scarlet rot and might have been dead for centuries but still had its impact and imprint on the lands between.

My theory - Shabriri was a Nomadic Merchant. Somewhere in his travels he came across the tablet/shield. As a merchant he was free to travel, and thus spread madness. He, naturally, spread the word among the Nomadic Merchants also. By the time the Order took action, they decided to persecute the whole clan for the actions of a few. Can't be sure who is or is not a worshiper, so easier to wipe them all out, right? So once they were locked up, the Merchants banded together and summoned the Three Fingers as a big 'fuck you' to the Order.

I think that's a reasonable interpretation but I think it also represents a kind of regressive and primitivist ideology. The followers of the Three Fingers hate the Golden Order for its injustices and contradictions and their proposed solution is to undo civilization entirely and return the world to its original primordial state. It's like they want to reset the world and start again.

I love everyone's takes on elden ring you clearly put a lot of thoughts into sharing your thoughts. Here's my interpretation of the lore: Shabriri is a nomad merchant that slandered the golden order and the other nomad merchants, eventually the nomads got trapped far below the capital and called out for help, while this was happening the golden order figured out shabriri lied and punished him. The Greater will or at least part of it realised that life is suffering and split off to become The Flame of Frenzy that's then summoned by the merchants chants and decided to incinerate all that divides and distinguishes and it poured out of Shabriri's eyes and he became cursed as an avatar of Chaos.

I feel as if Shabriri may have abandoned Yura's body in anticipation of his new lord. once we are embraced by the three fingers, & then have a slain the elden beast, i think he actually posses us to ensure that Chaos takes the world! i might be looking too much in to it but thought i would share all the same 👍

He was tortured and killed, but his soul was too angry to die. Too angry to be manipulated by the frenzied flame. The merchants are not what they seem. Out of all the wielders of the Frenzied Flame, the merchants are the only ones who use if for revenge against all who live. While all others, like those who give their eyes to Hyetta, Hyetta herself, and Shabriri himself only serve the yellow chaos flame because they truly believe that being born is cruel because they have never known happiness, they don't want to destroy the world because they hate anyone, they just believe it will make things better. The merchants however don't express any such ideas. In Kales cut questline we see that he just wants revenge for what happend to his people, but the fingerprint shield suggests that the merchants did actually worship chaos before they were put in the dungeon, so Shabriri didn't slander them, he told the truth. Kale drools over the idea of how many riches the Caravan traded in, so it just seems like he wants revenge against the world for daring to speak out against them, like Shabriri did. Why would the merchants worship chaos in the first place? Because they were graceless, like the misbegotten.

That thing is what we call God. Another way to put it: all things are contingent upon the existence of something else. It is illogical to conclude that this goes back in an infinite regress, otherwise existence would be a paradox that would instantly eat itself up. Therefore the prime essence of existence which gives all things their being must be self-sufficient and the beginning of all things. This ultimate beginning that sustains itself and all things is what we call God. The Trinity follows this logic. God is love. To have love you must have one who loves, the receiver of the love, and the shared love between them. Since God is love, it suggests that the lover, the beloved, and the shared love are substantially the same while being distinct. That is, they are all the same substance. Religion is just the effort of poets, artists, and con men to claim the final authority on our collective story. You need to realize this whole story you have of God is just an inherited dream and illusion you inherited to keep you from realizing that God never existed outside of the human mind. On top of that, you would have to look past the fact that Ranni's actions are the cause of the Shattering and during the which well everyone was fighting Mohg escaped his prison and tore Miquella cacoon from the Haligtree. That also circles back to why it is unlikely that Miquella was corrupted as despite Mohg's power-up from the Formless Mother he could not wake him inside the cocoon. Until the player comes along Ranni does nothing to advance her interest other than sitting and watching her siblings tear each other and Lands Between to pieces perhaps to the point that her rise to the top will be more effortless in time. The other possibility is that she didn't have a plan and we the player are the only ones who could possible help her complete it. It also doesn't help her case that she also allied with Rykkard one of the apparent arch-villains of the story and gifted him with traces of the Rune of Death so that if she failed Rykkard might have possibly been the one to finish her plan on The Night of Black Knives.

@@ThePenitentSquirrel You are right but there also is the case that it could have been partially spurred on or caused by Marika to give herself the push she needed to be able to overcome the elden beast inside herself and shatter the ring, we don't know if Merika arranged for the death of Godwyn herself and just puppeteered others into doing that for her, but it seems likely she planned the shattering from the start given we get to hear Merika assure Godfrey him and the tarnished will be called back.

@@EnglishAaron That is one of the theories that the community created and it is interesting as all we really know as a fact is; that Godwyn Dies + Overly distraught Marika = one smashed Elden Ring. The problem with the theory resides in the fact that most characters in Elden ring are rather enigmatic and without the corroborating evidence it would be extremely difficult to make the claim despite it certainly being possible as Marika demonstrates peculiar level cruelty. Further, as I believe I know the theory you're going on, it is also impossible to know if Ranni did what she did at the direction of Marika herself. However, somehow I doubt that as Marika was pretty thorough in defeating her enemies (like the Fire Giants) so when she defeated the Dusk Eyed Queen (or Malekith did) then took destined death and imprisoned in her Shadow. Something tells me Marika didn't do that just so one day Ranni could steal a fragment of it, if it had truly been part of her design why not give her the rune and leave no margins for failure. Also, Ranni essentially saw Marika as a broken relic worth paying homage to a point, but also worth abandoning. All of this is assuming the Greater Will doesn't have some other unknowable cosmic influence, but there isn't enough evidence again to prove that.

Chaos isn't evil, it exists to destroy, but destruction isn't evil. Torture and willful infliction of pain for means of hurting someone is pain. Chaos is the opposite of order, order stalls, stagnates and decays. Chaos brings life down and lets it start anew, only when you tear down what is, can you make something new. Chaos and order are mo moral, they are natural forces of nature. Primordial and fundamentalist as it gets.

A thing to consider is that, if Shabriri is Chaos Incarnate, then his plan isn't simply to destroy the world. See, the Flame of Frenzy is meant to melt everything back to its primal state within the crucible. When your head comes off, you cease to be you, and become an avatar of the Frenzied Flame, of Shabriri. His end goal is that all would become chaos, and as Chaos Incarnate, all would become Shabriri. His plan is not to destroy the world, but to become the world.

There is the opposite interpretation that Shabriri was actually right in his claims that the Caravan of merchants did have heretical beliefs, but after they cried out and cursed him he became the host for their demon god, making him the most heretical being in the Lands Between, making him the most reviled man in history. The reason why this could be a plausible interpretation is because the merchants were originally denied the grace of gold, so the greed that leads to envy of those who are accepted by the Golden Order made them despise it, and greed is a part of them as we see from Kales cut dialogue, he doesn't care much for the teachings of his ancestors but he instead drools over the trading possibilities the Caravan had, this envy of the Golden Order caused by greed leading to their worship of that which would destroy it all. Once they were desperate enough after being put in the deepest dungeon they were able to call said god to the lands between, or at least the messanger of said god, the Three Fingers, turning Shabriri into their own kind of Elden Beast as punishment. In a way I think it is more likely since if the Golden Order found out that Shabriri orchestrated some ploy to slander the merchants in order to make them desperate enough to stoke the flames of chaos, then why wouldn't the Golden Order go down there and purge it all? They would have had to know the Three Fingers were down there if they found out that it was Shabriris plan, but they can't have known because theres no way the Golden Order would allow it to exist under their capital. So I think it was summoned there after the fact by the merchants who used it to curse Shabriri to make him the icon of what he and the Golden Order hated, hence why he is the most reviled man. He wouldn't be the most reviled if "his only crime" was slandering a group that isn't even accepted by the Grace of Gold, why would the Golden Order care that much about the merchants? They don't, thats why they didn't release the merchants and thats why they didn't kill the Three Fingers, they just hated Shabriri for his cursed burning eyes.

I have an assumption that the three fingers themselves were not a bad god, but rather a kind of phenomenon. Perhaps it was an analogue of the fire from the dark souls, which warmed these travelers in their wanderings. However, Shabriri recognized the Three Fingers as heresy and imprisoned almost all the merchants in the dungeon, where the Three Fingers absorbed the growing madness among those who fell into such a terrible trap. As a result, all the merchants died, and after them Shabriri, whom the fingers decided to punish by the fact that he would forever suffer from madness, unable to die. Oh yes, Shabriri does not just keep his eyes closed, he suffers from endless pain, barely three fingers that have settled in his eyes see such a hated world (not for nothing is the ability to howl shabriri, in fact, torment in the flesh). Therefore, he wants to help the protagonist, so that three fingers move into the main character completely and Shabriri can finally die.

I have a related question you might like to explore - who the hell are the merchants selling things to aside from you? How are they still functioning as merchants at all? There seem to be about 15 conscious beings in the entire world of Elden Ring, and you're the only one who actively seeks new equipment. Every other being is either an unchanging NPC, or a random insane person who just attacks you on sight for no apparent reason.
