For anyone wondering what incantations are: Incantations are a type of Magic in Elden Ring. Incantation Spells are often dependent on the Faith stat, and have a variety of effects from healing and curing status effects to conjuring fire or claws to deal damage in a wide area. Incantations are cast using a Sacred Seal or similar catalyst. Incantations in Elden Ring are a combination of what would be Miracles and Pyromancies from past Souls games. You could run dex build with some magic. Magic always seems to make fights easier but you also need a good melee weapon for when fights get close quarters.

The wretch is basically the best starting class to tailor your character to how you wanna play. Earlier levels can be gained pretty fast and you get the freedom to put them where you want.

Confessor seems super interesting. I've always run a knight melee build in from games, but the spells in Elden ring seem like a lot of fun so I want the option to run melee and spells at the same time

Prisoner is also a good hybrid but mainly just for high damage spells. I like its sorcery better than the faith incantations I think

The Vagabond, Confessor, or Samurai sounds the way to go for me. I do like Hero too though.

I tried Confessor and Samurai and preferred Confessor at the end. He does more damage and has the heal. The Bow is cool but the bosses run up to you anyway making it almost pointless against them.

The Samurai is probably the best class for taking down big damage sponges like bosses and giants considering it's starting weapon is the Uchigatana which builds up bleed on enemies.

Aside from the bow, the thing i like most about the bandit is the excellent shield for parrying, the dagger causes bleed, and the attacks are fast!

The Prisoner seems fun. I like the spooky mask too.

I expected this comment and i was not disappointed.

Going to go Wretch, its the purest you can get on a first playthrough. You don't know where any items are and just got to survive and grow from nothing into the Elden Lord. I care more about the single player experience then PVP and can always make a dedicated PVP character later on when i've learned the nuisances of the game.

I like your style

I would consider the vagabond the most straightforward and easy to pick up class for newcomers. It has the best armor, 2 very good early weapons, and a shield that can block 100% physical. If you unequip one weapon and/or the gauntlets you can still fast roll. A quality build is tried and true, and not so risky considering it doesn't appear easy to just hang back and fire off projectiles endlessly.

First souls game I ever played picked vagabond died in two hits the dodge was so slow cause the armor and the blocking didn’t work must’ve done it wrong idk anyway so now I’m watching videos for help lol.

Not a word about the confessor starting with the "Assassin's approach" incantation, basically making it a stealth class in the early game

I went the safer route and went Vagabond. I didn't realize how good the starting armor was until I struggled to find things to replace it.

I’ll be going with the wretch the first time through. It’ll make discovering new loot so much more fun when you start with nothing. Also, the wretch starts at level one so you can still min/max effectively enough for pvp

Incorrect on that last point. Wretch(Deprived) builds are not effective for min-maxing at a predetermined level, because as it is known, every level starts at 10. It's not usually much, but the point of min-maxing is to minimize useless stats, and maximize the useful ones, to the point where you can't possibly get a better build.

I recommend the samurai, it’s weapon is very good for early game as I’ve beaten lots bosses with it and the long bow is solid if your out of heals and need to just dodge and shoot

Correction: High Endurance, not Strength, is necessary for using heavier equipment while maintaining a fast/medium roll speed. Strength is only necessary for weapons that require or scale with it. Endurance increases stamina and equip load.

Looks like I'll start out as a prisoner. Fits the type of character and play style I prefer. Melee/magic combo. The Bandit looks interesting too....I like the bow....

@@makemelaughyouants the samurai would be better for that, the arcane stat is not very useful atm to not say useless. Unless there's a hollow build like in ds3 it's pretty useless and you get better stats with the samurai and also a bow

For your third playthough join the wretch gang

In my opinion wretch is a generally good option because 1. You can get weapons and armor easily with a little bit of leg work (Even the stuff that the classes come with) 2. Your stats are fairly versatile allowing you to level up easier and meet most requirements with only a bit of work 3. This class puts you in a dangerous position always forcing you to learn danger avoidance much better in my opinion Those are my 3 reasons for why you should use wretch.

This may be the first fromsoft game where I will consider Magic as a primary focus, or at least on level with melee.

Going to go with Prophet, support and assisting or killing is what I love and if I can be of use to any team or even just by myself with incantations and healing then I’ll be more than happy

I see that dexterity has benefits for incantations / magic cast speed, while strength doesn't give any benefit. Is it more optimized to go faith/dex than faith/strength ?

It is a fair assumption. Traditionally it has been better in souls games to go with magic/dex rather than magic/strength because of the magic cast speed. However, strength comes with bonuses to physical def to balance it out.

If somebody reads this now : dex/faith is great but don't 100% neglect strength. I kept strength at bare minimum at first and could use like 10% of my weapons, I then restat my character and bumped it to 24 (from the starting 12 of prophet) and I can now wield 90% or my weapons, the game is MUCH more fun this way.

After watching this, I am 100% doing the Vagabond. I like the fact that I can use heavy armor with ease while also being a tank and dealing a good amount of damage. I honestly thought the warrior would be the same thing but I don't like the fact that it's better with duel wielding and wears light armor.

I love spellcaster/magic classes so I'll be going with Astrologer or Prisoner when I get the game next week.

Haven't done much research on spells but I've seen some lightning magic and I'd love to do a lightning swordsman build or a fire swordsman build

I want to use a Halberd but also some incantations. Confessor looks about right.

Magic in this game is really amazing compared to its predecessor, basically ill go with melee focus on soulsborne, but ill try hybird melee and little bit magic, confessor it is then!

Your clips of the bandit only showed them using their shield to block, but it's an exceptional parry shield, which combos well with the high critical damage of your dagger.

So torn between confessor and samurai. Leaning confessor because I'd like to be able to more practically build into using spells. But that samurai gear is super tempting.

The confessor, prophet and astrologer classes are the most attractive options to me. But I think I would have to choose the confessor. Despite the confessor being skilled in stealth I would like to rather focus on magic, incantations and melee combat. Being skilled in mainly using incantations but still having some degree of skill in sorcery, while also being skilled and frequently using one hander swords and spears.

@@b_nast19 currently now my build is a int faith hybrid where I focus mainly on being a spell caster and throwing a bit of melee in every once in a while. Using golden order greatsword, sometimes moonveil and sword of night and flame

Definitely going prisoner. I want to cast magic and turn enemies into Swiss cheese with pokes

I might run 2 simultaneous builds. I’m thinking a Guts build and a Musashi build since I can’t decide what my initial run will be.

Finally getting a spellsword starting class - Prisoner all the way baby

Worth adding: in addition to sword and shield, vagabond also has a halberd.

Tip for Bandit unless you really love parrying ditch the buckler because it'll allow you to do a special quickstep move to dodge around the enemy

I always liked playing dual wielding classes with higher armor, but I may just do a complete u-turn and start with a Mage.

Dont worry, you get more flasks later on, and the three flasks you start with are more than enough to cast plenty of starter spells. Im a sorcerer/astrologer and im doing fine

I was stuck between Prisoner and Astrologist. I wanted to do the concept of Lite Mage, where I had some martial protection while being able to use magic. Being me, I would have done Astrologist, but I wanted to try prisoner because its different. Also, I made the iron mask concept with one eye hole work by making the covered pink and my character's captors saw it as an Evil Eye

Are you liking Prisoner so far? I’m also stuck between Astrologist and Prisoner cuz I like magic but I think I wanna go something more hybrid that’s uses magic and melee combined to have a more versatile and non repetitive play style. What do you think about it? I haven’t started the game yet. Also I didn’t like the Prisoner mask, can you take it of visually keeping the stats or find another head equipments with another type of visual but with stats that still fitting a Prisoner type of build?

@@ricardotorquato I really enjoy the Prisoner class! The magic/melee combo works super well for me, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I originally tried confessor, but felt really limited with the majority-magic focus, and prisoner's starting spell is actually really, really good even in mid-game. I will say the helmet is actually pretty good in early game stats-wise, but it can't be "visually unequipped" (but ofc you can unequip it entirely and wear something else). For early game it's the best helmet, but venture out of the starting area a bit and you'll find much better. Overall- highly recommend prisoner!

I always roll as a Mage. The magic in Elden Ring looks insane..

@Robert Rice you clearly weren't around in a few of the dark souls games they dont nerf often but yes it does happen ,and around launch is the most likely time i would assume

In the end, the class honestly doesn't matter at all. It determines how easily you go through the first few hours of gameplay...That's really it. After you get some levels and get your build started you honestly forget what class you picked anyway. I had to go on my Sword Caster real quick to see what class I picked for him. I picked Hero, but I am an INT build, and it works incredibly well, given I started with so much STR and DEX, adding INT to that pre-existing stat pool made him incredibly versatile for down-the-line spell casting. For not to mention with Tears, you can respec to whatever you want. This game is far more lenient when it comes to stats.

All shields have the same "parry window", so aggressive players shouldn't shy away from massive turtle shields like in the past.

Astrologer for me, for sure. Prophet is not really a mage

I started with Wretch, it was tough but I liked the idea of starting off with noting and just looting the enemies I killed for clothes and gear.

However with the Blood loss effect from Bandit, it’s a really good class when higher up in the game if you like to be really hands on in gaming, like me. Plus the gear you can obtain makes dodging and rolling much easier.

Guys it's very simple to re-spec skills in this game. I'd just say go for ANY class, you'll have fun either way!

The Magic Glintblade spell that Prisoner starts with is really useful for hitting enemies who like dodge or block. They’ll dodge when you first cast it, but since it has a delayed effect, they won’t dodge the actual attack. The delay is useful against shields because you can cast it in front of them, then circle them around so the spell is facing their back and bypasses their shield. It’s also great for horseback combat because you don’t have to face your target when casting, just be target-locked. Be sure your enemy isn’t too far away from it by the time it fires off and try to line them up so the spell doesn’t miss since it fires in a straight line. Lastly, the spell can be charged for increased damage, but it also increases the delay, which can be useful because if you cast an uncharged glintblade right after a fully charged one, they’ll both fire off about the same time to hit an enemy twice. Obviously you don’t need to start as Prisoner to get this spell, but it’s a nice class either way.

Yea i always used melee and love the fact that with ashes of war we are able to sort of cast spells

For anyone wanting to use incantations, here are some i reccomend getting early on: flame sling, sold by brother chorynth(i probably misspelled that) poison mist( i forgot where i got this but it'll let you cheese a late game boss) and the incantation sold by the turtle at church of vows (this is a healing spell that gradually heals you and any ally in the spell radius). Also most of the healing spells arent worth it just use your flask

Ok I chose the Warrior, aiming to be a quick hitting fighter, but I found myself putting some points into Faith so I can use Fire Incantations while using a single longsword(with 2 Hands) for good damage. You can play any style you want regardless of which class you choose, but itll be a challenge to reach those points you need with some grinding

If I’m going for more of a powerhouse class when it comes to melee damage and speed, should I get hero class or warrior?

i’m going to be a confessor, hoping that the faith offensive skills are equal or better than pyromancies from ds3. while i play, im gonna be on the lookout for scythes. i hope there is a very grim looking scythe in this game with some cool weapon art. however, depending on if the MLGS looks better than/as good as it did in BB/DS3, i will be using that instead.

Prisoner seems so appealing as a starting class. I’m so torn now lol.

I wanted to go samurai because theyre cool, but im gonna go with wretch since starting with nothing and having to build myself up will be more fun

Small correction: Boosting strength doesn't affect your load capacity.

This is mean to say, but whoever was showcasing the classes was not ready to showcase them, as they literally never use the jump button, even when fighting airborne enemies.

Having recently finished Ghost of Tsushima, I‘m going with Samurai class.

I already know what class I want to play! Why can't I stop watching these?!

Prisoner's my go-to pick. Which I was not expecting when I first saw that mask in the reveal

i am new to souls like games and i maybe choose between vagabond and confessor because i like both magic and meele

For your first playthrough you should always pick wretch. I’m focusing on strength and dex until I can respec and finally choose what to specialize in. You can just make a pvp save later.

I'll certainly be a bruiser. Now just to choose to be the high health vagabond or the high damage hero.

Chose confessor, seemed really cool plus shield and faith 👌

**Carry Load no longer scales with Strength. It scales with Endurance now.

It was probably an homage from Miyazaki to Miura.

I like how most of the items that you find in chests have a message written next to them, which reads "Why is it always sorcery..." with dejection gesture!! I know the pain.....

Never played so I need some opinions, If I wanted to dual weild daggers and have magic ad back-up instead of a bow, I would have to choose bandid? And is it possible to dual wield a katana and dagger instead, if so would I have to pick samurai class?

"The Prisoner" is giving me strong Griffith from Berserk vibes (after he is imprisoned).

It’s the first “souls” game I’ve played and my first pick was as Wretch. Interesting. I also tried Samurai and will probably stick with that class.

my friend uses samurai, he's mentioned that he wishes he picked mage but that it samurai is the most balanced class (hid words, idk if true) and that you can profit a lot on bleed damage with katanas. He specs mostly into dex and has a bit of faith for some items and int for this one spell he loves (it's a lighting spell that you throw like zeus)

As a begginer I think I'm going with the Vagabond.

Doesn't equip load scale with endurance now? She said that the warrior needs more points in strength to wear heavier armour

Definitely. They all seem good. I usually like a melee based play style, but throughout the run put points into my stats to boost my magic so I have a bit of both.

So which is the best melee/magic class to start as there was a few of them and they all seemed decent?

i don’t think they did a great job explaining these classes. Prisoner and confessor are best for hybrid builds. prisoner for arcane and confessor for faith. :)

@@edruiz1202 vagabond. It doesn't really matter tho because after you play for a few hours you can make any build you want with any class. Just choose whatever looks cool to you

I find the hero class the most compatible to my gameplay, close and personal combat. If I find a bow on my travels I'll practice and sharpen up my range skill as I go but otherwise, hero is my class

I think that every class is fine, you’ll adapt to it even if it’s not even close to the stats you play with in other games.

Prisoner. Definitely my choice so I can grow into a battle mage.

Im torn between Samurai and Confessor. I hope there is a way to reset soul levels as i want to use the moonlight gs when i find it.

I started with the Confessor and have built his vigor, strength, Dex and some in holy, put on heavy armour, using a medium shield. Effectively created a Paladin

I’m gonna go for sigil and spear guy, 1. I like magic, especially fast incantation that doesn’t remove short range and block, 2. Spears, gotta love em
