Elcogen - World's most efficient SOFC

Ғылым және технология

Elcogen has developed the next generation of fuel cell technology. Fuel cells are vital for a clean energy future, unlocking long-term storage for renewables by converting excess electricity into hydrogen, and reducing emissions when generating electricity from natural gas. Solid oxide fuel cells are the world’s most efficient energy conversion method and Elcogen manufacturers the highest performing cells.

Have any of your fuel cells been tried in aircraft?

why is it that the most electricity a sofc can produce is only 1 kW please come up with one that produces 100kw thank you

    100%, because it's not a heat engine.

Solid oxide fuel cells paired with a heat engine to collect waste heat can reach around 90% efficiency

@@augustovasconcellos7173 Any examples? I think thats a great idea! Do they use methane?

@@augustovasconcellos7173 Also, if methane is used do they burn the methane? I'd like to convert natural gas into electricity.

@@joshuanorris9785 yes currently the only fuel syitable for long term use with SOFCs is methane (natural gas). this is due to carbon coking and sulfur compound asphyxiation of the cell stack due to "unrefined fuels" and higher carbon byproducts sue to longer molecules in heavier hydrocarbons. this for instance is why diesels need to have DPFs. however, the fuel cells oxidize the fuel and release electrons. it is NOT the sam thing as combustion and thus is why they are so much more efficient than a comparable piston engine. though, it's efficiency isn't *that* much higher. what set SOFCs apart is their ability to basically always operate at max efficiency no matter what the power output - also there is no internal moving part friction and no need for lubrication oil that can leak into the combustion chamber and create aerosol emissions. I hope that instead of trying goofy and dangerous cryogenic hydrogen fuel cell trains we move first to methane SOFCs and then to just complete catenary electrification.
