    1995... Such a better time in the World. A damn good time for music as well though. Elastica were a great band, and their first album was pure Gold, from beginning to end and everything in between. I'd give anything to go back to that time, and be 15 or 16yo again. Here's to the past, and to better times and days...🍻

    A good band, all pulling their weight, with 3 good looking lasses in the front. I tried the bands thing in the 90's and could ony dream of the achievements of the likes of Elastica and others who documented this period in our music history. Outstanding!!!

    @@lessthanlaughing4373 A lot of their songs got played on radio and television. Connection, Waking Up, Car Song, Stutter... They were one of the bands lucky enough to record for John Peel.

    1994, surely? November, perhaps? I watched it at the time in a squat on my miniature analogue TV. By early 1995 I think the album had been released and I had moved somewhere more civilized but where they already had a (proper) TV.

    Pushing 30 years on I still listen to their debut album about once a month. The only one of the many 'Britpop' (horrible term...) era albums I own that I still regularly play. Although tbf Definitely Maybe does get get spun once in a while...

    Good band, but ha, her accent when she talks... the purest 90s mockney. She went to St Paul's School. Not surprised they were bigger in the States, where this wouldn't have been clocked.

    Her parents were both refugees. Many children of refugees have hard to place accents. Justine has spoken about how her accent gave her a lot of anxiety at points because it wasn’t working class or upper class it was a mish mush.

    I used to rock a black tele in the 90's. I didn't know Elastica then, really - didn't know she rocked a black tele, that's for sure! Only ones I ever saw with them was James Iha (in a rare occasion ( from Smashing pumpkins and , of course. Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine. ..Anyone else know of any..? I'm quite find of "my" black Tele look...all low-slung, punk rock style... especially with the rose coloured glasses of 25 years' thick rose coloured NOSTALGIA glasses!

    There were a lot of girls in bands back then that were far more attractive than the false everything culture we have today. Justine and Shirley Manson were tied for my number one followed by the girl (name escapes me) Who sang with Sleeper. Damn even Betty Boo was hot despite her music was shite. Back when woman were naturally beautiful and didnt go for fake everything. Real women for real men.

    It's clearly a loop/tape. I don't think it's meant to be or sound like anything else though. You can clearly hear the rest of the instruments being played live and it's the same of every performance.

    As others said, it's a sampled intro (most likely their own) which they rightly didn't try to hide/conceal. It'd been dreadful had they tried to mime to it and big respect to them for not doing so. Nothing wrong with it, a bona fida part of the song (art) which drives the tune.
