On 21. March 2024 we got a visit from Elaphon from Leipzig, Germany, for a very special workshop event. Elaphon are building a unique kind of acoustic resonator - the Œil Sympathique. This video is the documentation of the event, showing the presentation about the Œil Sympathique and a performance.
The electro-acoustic resonator Œil Sympathique from Elaphon is a coupling of an acoustic sound object with resonance strings and a loudspeaker. It is designed for the reproduction of electronic sound sources.
The resonance body of the Œil Sympathique serves as a non-linear membrane for the loudspeaker, producing a sound full of wood and character. At the same time, the Sympathique strings are stimulated to resonate and add a natural overtone spectrum to the electronic sound material. The highlight - only the strings whose tone is actually played resonate. This creates the original sound of the Œil Sympathique - a non-linear loudspeaker that adds body and velvet to electronic sounds - wood, sustain and a natural overtone spectrum.
