El Mojiganguero y sus Mojigangas de San Miguel de Allende

Mojigangas are 2-6 meter tall papier mâché puppets found dancing on the streets of San Miguel de Allende, as part of traditional parades or "callejoneadas" (wedding processions). Originating as "Los Gigantes" (The Giants) in Spain, mojigangas were brought to Mexico in the 1600s and have become an integral part of traditional folk art in San Miguel de Allende, representing a range of personalities both real (politicians, artists, historical figures) and fantastical.
Visit the renown mojiganga gallery and workshop of Hermes Arroyo, who has been a mojigangero for 35 years and learn about the history and practice of this unique and fun art form.
