El Diablo- Tren de la Mina Review, PortAventura Family Coaster | Europe's Only Arrow Mine Train

El Diablo is the Arrow mine train at PortAventura and it is the Spanish resort's best family coaster. This Mexican themed coaster travels over rides and through tunnels and pits. This was one of the last mine trains built by Arrow, but is it one of their best?

I loved how I forgot to take my cap off before riding this and it falling off after the ride picked up speed after the chainlift. Overall, this is a fun ride and it can get quite crazy at points.

The location of the maintenance track really hits the layout bad. Good off ride footage but that’s about it. If you like trim breaks and arrow anti rollbacks then this is your ride 😂

I think the coaster you would ride the most while going again to the park is a hyper coaster with drops and camelbacks. Canobie Coaster would say: It's exceptional. The drops and camelbacks offer copious amounts of floater airtime plus a stomach dropping sensation. The pullout from the first drop and far turnaround offer great positive Gs. It also offers stunning views of the sea and mountains, not only on the lift hill but on the rest of the ride. What about the smoothness or the roughness? A) It is super smooth, not any shake or rattle. It is one of the most rerideable coasters in the world. B) It is mostly smooth, some valleys do have some shimmying though but overall tolerable. C) It is bumpy, especially further back in the train.

This was not really on my radar as a ride to ride when I went to PortAventura, but I rode it as a palate-cleanser between Shambhala and Dragon Khan. It's a really good family ride! it goes on for an impressively long time and I particularly love the swooping dropping turn after the third lift. My first roller coaster ever was an Arrow mine train, but it was one of the shortest and tamest ones, maybe the shortest one? (Trailblazer at Hersheypark). It's fun to ride a good long one. It caused me some navigation trouble early in the day, though: the path down to it looks like it might be a through route to the rest of the park, but it is not.

I find it quite surprising how this is Europe's only Arrow Mine Train, Arrow is almost all in America though so it makes sense in a way. I usually prefer these Arrow ones to Vekomas as they are rougher in a sense that brings more enjoyment and definitely more intense.

I think Arrow died not too far into the era when European parks would even be considering them as a possibility. It's strange to think of new Arrow Mine Trains even still being a thing at the time PortAventura opened, simultaneous with rides like Dragon Khan, but it was right at the tail end of that period.

Canobie Coaster would say: Unfortunately, this is not the best paced mine train. The three lift hills really break up the experience. I like the first and final third, but that middle section truly feels like filler. The ride is among the smoother Arrow mine trains. You still have a few less than perfect transitions, but the ride in general tracks much better, which makes sense considering it was one of the newer ones. So what would I rate El Diablo?

This ride really has a lot going for it, but also a lot of terrible things. As someone who's quite tall and a bit bigger, the restraints and seats were terrible. Had no leg room at all and all the terrible transitions really hurt my back with the hard formed backs. If they put different trains on this thing with padded seats and restraints, it would make a huge difference.

This thing is just plain ridiculous. Janky transitions. And a lot of lifthills and boring rather slow turns. The best parts are the start and finish in the visible area around the station. The part with the log flume is slow and weird, the maintenance part is really laughable. If you look at the mine trains Vekoma built around this time (Walibi Belgium and Phantasialand!!!)... Wow... This is so incredible. So laughable. So just plain bad. I kind of like it 🙈😀
