    Great job. Just a tip. Most ECG strips show a black line or a black arrow after every 15 squares. So if you watch that out from first black line to the 3rd black line is 30 squares (15+15) you can count R waves between those without having to actually cou t the squares.

    if there is not a P wave present, are you able to count the atrial rate?

  • @RegisteredNurseRN

    @RegisteredNurseRN

    7 жыл бұрын

    If there is not a p-wave, you can't count the atrial rate...for example, this happens when the patient is in atrial fibrillation due to the atriums quivering which causes you not to see a p-wave.

    why do u multiply by 10?

  • @RegisteredNurseRN

    @RegisteredNurseRN

    8 жыл бұрын

    Great question! You multiply by 10 because there are a span of 10 boxes with 1 second on the EKG paper. Therefore, when you count the number of r-waves within 6 seconds and multiply by 10 you get the heart rate.
